    OMG!!! I hope you still have that old Kenmore.
    Those things are beasts; perfect for thick webbing/straps.
    They don't make them like that any more.

    Thank you for sharing this helpful video. New to sewing, but will use again for reference and subscribed to learn more. You should make backpacks, too!

    Thanks so much! There’s a really cute bag I wanna order but I’m unsure of the quality - if I do this as soon as I get it I will be less stressed

    Nice to have older sturdy machine. I don't know if mine will do it.

      If you're saying you don't know if your machine can sew through the straps on a backpack, use a microtex needle and use the handwheel to help the needle go through the thickness. 😊

    If you can just "ever so slightly" pass the flame of a lighter over the frayed parts they'll just shrink & band together -cause they're nylon -& won't fray anymore.

    I have a Backstreet Boys backpack with the same tear on the right shoulder strap and it did not tear until someone at work slung it over a chair by said strap. I'm gonna have to get a new one as I have no sewing machine and even if I did, I don't know how to use one, and I don't know how to sew in general, and I feel like I'll tear it worse by ripping the seam just to fix it :'( It's my favorite backpack too.

      Find someone local who can fix it. If you're on Facebook, post a question on your page or in any groups your in. You can also post a "Wanted" post on Craigslist. It may not yield a result but it's an option.
      It's possible to do by hand but it's tedious.

    I'm trying to fix a backpack strap also. I was wondering what settings I should have my machine on. Because when I try to sew it it just stops and the thread bunches up

    • @SavvySewing
      @SavvySewing 5 лет назад +1

      I used a basic straight stitch. If your thread is bunching up on the underside, you may want to take the bobbin and put it back in. When that happens to any of my machines, I reset the bobbin and rethread my machine. That always works on my end.

    Nice video❤ think they purposely dont reinforce. So there will be returning customer to buy new bags

      I agree. It's crazy how the straps are easily damaged or the corners become worn.
