The basis of classic British gaming commercials: For 5% of the ad, talk about the game, and for the other 90%, just make the audience laugh. Mayall was always the best choice for that. :)
Rik was actually a really good looking guy who capitulated such looks to "look ugly" for his beloved audience. It's been 2 years now, & still I feel as shocked & impinged about his demise. :( It's the end of an era of physical comedy. Love you so much Rik.
Miss Rik so much, it's been 2 years, and this video combines two of my favourite things. Old Nintendo games, and Rik Mayall, both brought so much joy to so many kids! R.I.P man.
I didn't even know these existed, and I certainly didn't think that Lord Mayall could get any more legendary, but that's proved me wrong. RIP Rik, I know wherever you are, you'll be having a really good wan..... ermm.. wangle! (it's a medieval folk dance after all)
I am so shattered and depressed over his sudden passing. Rik mayall was someone that never stopped making you laugh. Young Ones, New Statesman and Bottom you'll never get someone as unique and eccentric like him again. He'll be missed as well as James avery aka uncle Phil!
Didn't know Rik Mayall did adverts for Nintendo. Seems kind of ironic, considering that his only acting role in a video game was on the Sony PlayStation.
Nice information but, considering that he did the Nintendo adverts before the Playstation voice acting, (and, of course, the Playstation was itself the result of an aborted CD add on project on for the SNES) it's not really even 'kind of' ironic. It's just what's called a career where you work for one company- and then work for another.
Thanks so much for these, I had no idea he did ads for Nintendo. I was upset as you when I found out he died, I was on holiday in Vegas too. Rik is a legend in my eyes, NOBODY will ever be as good as him in my eyes. His way of doing things, his facial expressions and body movements make me laugh so much. Rip :(
The Nigel Mansell one is absolutely fantastic. On a sadder note, I don't think a celebrity death has hit me this hard since Peter Cook passed away. Possibly Liz Sladen. Damn.
I got to say, thanks for uploading this and thanks Dan Bull for tweeting about this video. This is amazing, I can't believe I didn't know about these adverts until now.
I don't remember these as a kid, maybe too busy on my Nintendo. Made me laugh out loud. Absolute genius all round, from Rik being Rik, to Nintendo having the foresight to create such sublime adverts.
I was absolutely not aware of these adverts until now!!! Yes I would have only been 6 but haven't even seen them on those advert compilation shows they have on TV now and then. Anyway, Rik Mayall - there is no one else quite like him, is there? RIP.
How on earth did Rik Mayall die? He was so full of energy, even up till the end. I see these videos and I still struggle to believe that he's actually dead. What a shocking, tragic loss. RIP
R.I.P Rik, Bottom was the first show I called my favourite when I was growing up and he is no doubt in my top 5 actors, with Ade in that list too. Such a sad day =(
"Neil, Neil ..Orange peel!!" - I miss 'P'Rick so much. A supernova that disappeared too soon. His stints on Jackanory is my favourite memory of him (he made most of the other story tellers look plain in comparison). He really was amazing on kids shows, especially when telling a story :)
I think he'd made his money before that. Funny ads though. Sega ads where good too. To be this good take ages. Some bright spark spotted that. SEGA AGES
I think I actually remember a couple of these. I had completely forgotten about them but this was a good reminder. Ahh well. RIP Rik and all your wonderfully horrible characters. 😢😭
That was a pleasant journey into the corners of my mind. When I see footage of Rik it reminds me just how talented he was... A true legend of comedy...
I don't know why RUclips put this in my recommendations list, but I'm glad it did. Bless you Mr Mayall for all the years of entertainment you provided.
For computer company slogans, a special mention must go to Commodore for putting an ad with "To be this good will take Sega AGES" on it for the CD32 release. Right next to the London Sega HQ. Ballsy.
Ironically I never saw these ads as a kid because I was too busy playing video games. I did become a huge fan of Bottom in my teens though, so maybe that makes up for it?
Loved the Young ones, New Statesman and Bottom, Black Adder etc in my childhood. Rick brought a sense of madness to everything he was in, but so funny too, and I really don't remember any of these adverts at the time, so it's great to finely see them. Miss you Rik
My comedy hero as a kid and he still makes me giggle unconditionally to this day. Was a dark day for me when his death was announced on the news. To this day drop dead Fred is one of my altime best films. But now makes me said at the end when he says good buy.
Rik called his house Nintendo towers as he used the money from these adds to buy the house
Still can't believe he is no more :(
Compared to the modern adverts, Rik Mayall makes these adverts far more believable and hilarious.
God, I miss him so much.
I just found him and I'm right there with you. Here in the US all we had of his was "drop dead Fred"
Me too🥺
The basis of classic British gaming commercials:

Mayall was always the best choice for that. :)
Michael D. Kimpton what about the other five percent?
You're 5% short.
The other 5% was the wow factor
Shame these aren't for the UK audience
+Gunzee true.

I had never heard of him til now.
*****
Look him up.. He Was an incredible man who defined toilet humour way before Southpark took the reigns.
KINDLE Especially good-looking in "The New Statesman" even though he plays a complete bastard, XD
He's meant to be good looking in Black Adder too as Lord Flashheart
@@DaniellaCartwright If you live in the UK ask your parents. Back in the 80ties everybody knew him. The Young Ones?😊
Miss Rik so much, it's been 2 years, and this video combines two of my favourite things.
Old Nintendo games, and Rik Mayall, both brought so much joy to so many kids! R.I.P man.
I remember many people got into trouble with the police at the time of his death for googling "young ones" and "bottom"
Absolute legend. His reading of George's marvellous medicine was awesome
I didn't even know these existed, and I certainly didn't think that Lord Mayall could get any more legendary, but that's proved me wrong.
RIP Rik, I know wherever you are, you'll be having a really good wan..... ermm.. wangle! (it's a medieval folk dance after all)

Young Ones, New Statesman and Bottom you'll never get someone as unique and eccentric like him again.

"Next time you're Rik Mayall" the man was and still is the GOAT!
Didn't know Rik Mayall did adverts for Nintendo. Seems kind of ironic, considering that his only acting role in a video game was on the Sony PlayStation.
What game was it
Playstation gaming hogs of war I believe
+Playstation gaming He also did Bud Tucker's Double Trouble, but that wasn't very good
Nice information but, considering that he did the Nintendo adverts before the Playstation voice acting, (and, of course, the Playstation was itself the result of an aborted CD add on project on for the SNES) it's not really even 'kind of' ironic. It's just what's called a career where you work for one company- and then work for another.
He apparently made so much money from these Nintendo ads he called the house it bought “Nintendo Towers” 😂
Two days have passed and I still can't believe that Rik's gone. Not even outliving Thatcher could make up for this.
Rip :(
Now I know why I always asked for Nintendo games at Xmas.
RIP Rick Mayall.
"Aren't you that untalented celebrity that's repellent to women" lol
These were great ads. Thanks for posting this. I still miss him.
The Nigel Mansell one was perfect
The Nigel Mansell one is absolutely fantastic.
On a sadder note, I don't think a celebrity death has hit me this hard since Peter Cook passed away. Possibly Liz Sladen.
Damn.
The Pellet i
A Ward And Tupac.
Woof!
Getting Rik Mayall to do their adverts was possibly one of the greatest things Nintendo have ever done! What an absolute masterstroke of advertising!
Oh Rik, how we miss you... you bastard. XD
Quite possibly the coolest man on the planet. I miss him too. I light a candle for him every year. He's a hero.
I got to say, thanks for uploading this and thanks Dan Bull for tweeting about this video. This is amazing, I can't believe I didn't know about these adverts until now.
0:02 "Isn't it a boore!" Rik Mayall cracks me up with this sketch! 📺😂👍
I was expecting Rik to go "BASTARD!" during that Tetris advert.
Even in death, Rik is tempting me to play more Nintendo games. SNES is my childhood memories:) R.I.P Rik
I don't remember these as a kid, maybe too busy on my Nintendo.
Made me laugh out loud. Absolute genius all round, from Rik being Rik, to Nintendo having the foresight to create such sublime adverts.
Rik Mayall is a Legend may his comedy live on R.I.P
I miss Rik, I grew up watching the young ones and the comic strip films. One of the greats. The people's poet will be remembered.
Great collection - never saw them originally. The Tetris one is pure Rik through and through. Excellent. RIP Rik.
I was absolutely not aware of these adverts until now!!! Yes I would have only been 6 but haven't even seen them on those advert compilation shows they have on TV now and then.
Anyway, Rik Mayall - there is no one else quite like him, is there? RIP.
Thanks for the upload, I hadn't seen these before (despite being a kid when they were aired). RIP Rik, a comic genius.
If Rik was still with us today I would have loved him to reprise these performances for the Nintendo Switch :)
Rik Mayall should've done an Old Spice commercial! 🖤
Or, the Royal Mail.
How on earth did Rik Mayall die? He was so full of energy, even up till the end. I see these videos and I still struggle to believe that he's actually dead. What a shocking, tragic loss. RIP
He was probably murdered
@@80srenaissance67 he die from a heart attack not murdered okay

he nicknamed his house nintendo towers cause he brought it with the ad money

Funny ads though.
Sega ads where good too. To be this good take ages. Some bright spark spotted that. SEGA AGES
Lol. I heard that too - think it's true.
he was like a comedic tornado
The "for fifty of your pounds" line kills me everytime
God damn, I miss Rik.
I wish we had gotten these adverts in the states, Mayall was the man.
Good God I remember these, Rik Mayall at his best, RIP.
What a smashing blouse he had on.
If you say his name 3 times into gameboy screen he'll appear behind you and tell you he really is brilliant
Rik doing what he does best. Such a shame he's no longer with us.
i want my childhood to come back again NOW so that i can watch him on tv again.😆
I'd forgotten about these ads - brilliant :D
anyone remember him in hogs of war?
Right up the Harris!
You sirri irriot, you break my body.
'Oi hate forrenerrrrz!' XD Loved that game (Don't tell anyone new to it to just keep using the poison gas...) XD ;)
SURRENDER NOOOOOOW OOOOR PERIIIISH!!!!!!!
Rest In Peace Rik you were an amazing comedy actor and will always be greatly missed
Rik Mayall talking about The Legend of Zelda just made my day :D
So today I learned the guy that (wasn't) in Harry Potter did Nintendo ads, nice
He did the voice acting for hogs of war. One of my most favourite games
I miss Rik. An absolute bloody legend
He bought a house with the money he made from these adverts and called it Nintendo Towers.
Who else but Rik would come up with punching the split-screen graphic, only to send it see-sawing into his own knackers? Comedy god.
I don't remember these at all. Great adverts
The Zelda advert was, and is, best advert. Period.
I think I actually remember a couple of these. I had completely forgotten about them but this was a good reminder. Ahh well. RIP Rik and all your wonderfully horrible characters. 😢😭
Was so up set when i first heard Rik had died. No one in all my life has made me laugh as much as he did. A British comedy legend!!!
I played this game so much I think I might have at one point been more Rik Mayall than he was. RIP Rik Mayall
NintendoUK was all-in on Rik Mayall to be their spokesperson!

Came for the title. Stayed for the ads.

HAHAHAH it's always violence. He's so good at walking into things. His hair flying around is fucking brilliant.
We miss you Rik 😢
You will always be remembered for your endless comedy rick.
What a true legend, never remember this but Rik can make anything funny!
Rest in peace ✌️
What a combo.... two of my favourites; Rik and Nintendo.
Loved it when he did George’s Marvellous Medicine on Jackanory.
Miss Rik ✌🏻
2 of my biggest childhood loves combined. I'm glad I stumbled across this.
Everything seems like a piss take with Rik.
Him and Ade are some of my favourite comedians of all time.
Rip Rik.
FLASH BY NAME, FLASH BY NATURE! WOOF!

Mark Pentler aye! That’s class! 😂😂😂
Ironically I never saw these ads as a kid because I was too busy playing video games. I did become a huge fan of Bottom in my teens though, so maybe that makes up for it?
I hope you washed your hands afterwards, young man.
Much missed RIP Rik Mayall
That first commercial with the glass window used have me in stitches as a kid. Still gives me a giggle today. :)
Legend Rik
Miss you Rik.
Wait..... Rik from The Young Ones did Nintendo game ads????
HAHA the *Star* one has me in _hysterics_ every time!
That was actually genius! Love that guy, what a legend.

How did I not know about this? It's amazing?

It's a shame they never put Rik in a Nintendo game. A Rik Mayall NPC in Zelda: Breath of the Wild or Mario: Odyssey would have been brilliant.
I don't remember any of these adverts playing back then.
Rik died far too young. RIP.
The legend that is Rik Mayall
Rest in peace, People's Poet. :'(
R.I.P Rick, I remember watching you and Ed on bottom, and you guys were awesome!
