Another gem! I never had the 303, but I had the 505. It was my first sampler and I had it for years. The pads looked very similar with the 505 having 16. Keep up the great work and thanks again for keeping this history alive. Much respect.
I had both the 303 and the 505. I kept the 505 but I miss the simplicity of the 303. I'll never let go of my 505 though it's rock solid and still fun to work with!
I had a 505 also. Wasn't my first standalone, but it was my favorite until I got the 404mk II. I regret giving it up for the MV 8000, which I ended up returning and switching to a laptop....
Absolutely love the energy, haha! You should do commercials, and you'd make anything sell like hotcakes! Love the small, less loud laughter in between too :D Grrreat stuff!
Feature comparison, if you press reverse on the 404 during playback, the sample plays from the end of the sample to the start. Even if you pressed reverse in the middle the sample. The 303 on the other hand, will start reversing from the point you were on when you pressed reverse. Much smoother when playing live!!
I had my 404 OG since 2012........just copped another one last year....... still my go-to and got many beats I've done with this device along with my 202
@@DyReckProductions oh cool I really appreciate that bro , I do everything on my phone . @@djtrakakadrunkpoet8598 Oh ok cool..I hear alot of folks mentioning that Koala Sampler..I never used it but I might give it a try..Probably gonna have to do a What Had Happened Was on it Lol!
I’ve had mine for a few years now and I love it. I had the 505 too but sold it since I have an 808 too. But just for the mark button alone on the 303 made me choose it over the 505. Chopping using that mark button is a lot better to me than having a wave form visible. But it’s great. The workflow is great imo. Either resampling or the sequencer. Of course it has its limitations.
Now you gotta do 1 on the SP-505! The other day I found an old 505 beat tape from like 2005 & it made realize how much fun I had with the 505 so I just ordered 1, my first 505 from 2003 is died long ago but its 128MB SmartMedia cards got some life on it.
Funny thing about DBZ in 2001: Toonami's Tom was bringing fat triphop beats everyday at 3pm. I don't know about y'all, but those bumpers was fire in my ears, turning me from a dime-a-dozen DJ to another mediocre "bedroom producer". I remember drooling over the sp303 at MARS music store, those were fun times (again, I went with the Sampletrak, I forget why) .
Like nearly the whole SP range, it suffers from, for me, the near-fatal 'feature' of not having proper "pitching" (actually "sample speed" - pitch and tempo moving in relation to eachother) like nearly every other sampler ever has. The timestretch on it tries to maintain the pitch so quickly becomes a clicky mess and the pitch effect is just that - a pitchshift effect where the tempo is maintained and similarly soon starts to sound pants and is inaccurate. It also needs sample and pattern copy badly. Other than that, it's my current sampling squeeze and is pretty awesome. I use an Akai S20 for properly pitching samples into it.
@@DyReckProductions Nah, it doesn't, alas. The only SPs that do are the 202 (global for all samples with pitch switched on, -20/+12% iirc), the 808 (using the varispeed function, which detunes the whole machine, so you have to tune it to the sample you're taking then speed it back up/down) and, I'd assume, the 404mkII. The Roland MS-1 too, if you count that as the first SP.
The 808 has great pitch using the vari- pitch knob when record a sample. If you raise it above 100 it lowers the pitch when recording in only. You cant resample the pitch. But it’s good having the 303 on the side so I can effect the pitch on the 808 and record it to the 303. Being able to bounce back and from from sampler to sampler really helps avoid some issues.
The 404og has a way to copy patterns, it’s a secret but can be easily found how to do it online. I be using the s20 and 202 for pitching too. Those two machines IMO sound the BEST..right under the sp1200 sound
Dope video! I been posting a bunch of sp-303 beat chopping/flipping videos! The 303 linked with my MPC2000XL is going to be fun! Dusting off my equipment after a few inactive years. Hope yall have the DOPEST day whoever reads this. PEACE!
SP303 is your favorite drunk Uncle that show at every event and turn shit up that and SP505 can't be touched sound wise no disrespect to all the newer joints from Roland . But the SP202 ,303,505 is the original GOOD , THE BAD & THE UGLY . Kev Brown & Alchemist still use them as part of their sound chain SP into MPC sample input on vinly simulator or low fi simulator .
@@DyReckProductions In France it became a really huge thing in 84/85 becoming quickly the second anime/mangas country, a lot of french rapper did refs to DBZ in their song due to it's diffusion in public Channel and cultural influence (6 Channel at the Time)
