  • The snow is finally starting to melt in the Rockies and we went out for a ride on the T7. We were testing out the new SkyDio 2's tracking capabilities. It didn't go as smoothly as I had hoped, I need to spend some more time with it to get it figured out.

    Very nice! I think the drone did pretty well !

    I have the DJI Mavic and there is no way it would follow like this one. I may get one after watching this video and others today. Thank you for doing the video. This is exactly what I am wanting for my moto trips.

    I say the footage is very good ! I don't know how many times you stopped for the drone but in the end it looks good !

      It was 3 runs up the down the cutline to get the footage in the video. It kept stopping 100meters short of the top and got lost in the trees twice on the way down. it has potential but I need more time with it to get to dialed in.

    So cool. I have been reviewing this one. I understand the controller is not the best quality. Takes time. Love the footage. Cheers Yammybound88

      I have the beacon now, just ordered the controller. Definitely need more time with it.

    Very impressed with drone ability to follow and navigate below tree line based on obstructions in its path. Unless it has A.I., it's a pretty sweet set up and did well. But I can imagine the pain of going back up one of those huge hills to look for it hiding in the woods as well. Awesome ride footage overall.

      @CamelADV  3 года назад

      Yeah, it should figure out a path through or around. It hid in the trees a few times.

    Great vid. So much better than a helmet cam. Those cams always seem like the rider is going a lot faster than he is. This showed speed a lot better ;-) That was some pretty rough terrain too.

    In a situation like that long downhill the SD2 will do better directly behind you with a little distance. I've found that depending on the situation one setting (orientation or distance) doesn't cover everything. You'll get to the point to where you can pick out good areas that compliment the SD2, it doesn't do well in all environments. Forested areas are probably it's biggest challenge but when the trees open up a bit it will follow nicely at a good speed. Once you get it all figured it out you'll really like the added perspective it adds to your videos. I've been flying one since they were first released, my only advise, stay away from power wires and bare leafless branches, they are both SD killers and have brought down quite a few.

    Sounds like you had a few issues with it , but the end product was fantastic. It doesn't flatten everything out like body or helmet mounted. It really captured how steep that hill was and your skill level on a mid size bike! BTW - Just got my gut guard for the 790. Fits like a glove and my fear of damaging the underside are gone!

    use a "Tile" key tracker "bluetooth" with your phone and if your drone is lost but close you could find it.

      @@CamelADV The SD2 has a "Find My SD2" function built into the app, after the drone connects to the beacon I always start the app and connect it to the beacon, the GPS syncs up much quicker and it allows you to use the app to find the drone's last known position if you loose it. The function has led me right to the drone more than once. Works very well.

    Was this with the beacon or visual tracking? Impressive either way.

    Two tips: get a real dirt bike and fly the Skydio above the trees or eventually it is going to crash. It has limitations dealing with branches when it gets to close to them.

      The bike had brand new dirt bike knobbies. Short of studs, nothing would have worked better on the ice.
