There's a frame during the dancing sequence that shows the reality of Acrobatic Silkie leaping to her death in suicide after failing to save her daughter. After becoming a Youkai she seems to forget most of the important details of her life, even forgetting the face of her beloved daughter. Even darker to imagine is those men were likely her handlers for her Lady of the Night job and took her daughter as collateral. With the mom no longer is a position to pay that collateral becomes a liquid asset and they likely trafficked her. In that sort of life its hard to imagine her living very long. This is made even clearer in the dub with Aira's final monologue. "Please, take away their pain. Grant them peace. Guide them both, to a kinder world." This changes my entire thought process about Aira. She woke up from being dead and her first action is to comfort a former human that murdered her for no reason just so that parent and child could be reunited in the afterlife. Honestly can't imagine Dandadan without her now. To your other discussion I think the previous videos topic was answered this time around. Notice in the scene with the fresh Acrobatic Silkie how colorless the background and people are. I was thinking it was artistic at first but I've changed my mind on a rewatch. I think that's how Youkai and other ghosts see regular people, they are really HARD to see. The only color in the scene was the Youkai and a muted Aira but her father was desaturated. If you're a regular person you're unlikely to be attacked because you can't see each other very well but if you DO have Spiritual Power you stick out like a sore thumb for probably miles... like a fire on a mountain at night.
What an insane comment drop! This is super enlightening and grants so much powerful context. Makes this episode even better. Appreciate the time you took to write this!
I absolutely love how this show uses colour and other visual details for the storytelling. This whole episode really was the best kind of whiplash, going from funny dick n’ balls, to straight up awful sadness and pain. It’s made us love the show so much more.
We had to reupload, very sorry!
But we BACK!
