An otaku is someone who is unhealthily obsessed with a person, thing or concept. So their boss being an otaku would refer to him being unhealthily obsessed with the idea of pirates, since their entire concept is pirate themed and they have a universe built around that concept. XD

Otaku is a term used for ppl who are kinda obsessed with anything anime related. so Sunmi saying that their CEO is a bit of an otaku is coz the whole pirate concept and whatnot seems like an anime, such as One Piece or something.
Also just in case, "kkanbu" is a more recent slang to mean "bestie"

Actually, no. It has nothing at all to do with anime, and it isn't "kinda obsessed." It's obsessed to the point of being unhealthy and reclusive, and it can be an obsession with literally anything. Someone who obsessively goes every day to sit and watch trains, in any weather, for hours on end, is an otaku. Someone who obsessively follows a kpop band is an otaku. Someone who obsessively collects stuffed animals is an otaku. Someone who obsesses over fashion is an otaku. Someone who is obsessed with pirates, to the point that an entire universe and storyline for a kpop concept is built upon said theme, is an otaku. The important idea is obsession, not the thing being obsessed over.
