Montserrat is Spanish. Freddie Mercury ( from Queen) always wanted to perform with an opera singer. He got his wish with the incredible Montserrat. This was when he'd already been diagnosed with AIDS. RIP to both of them 😢
@@123malichi the family had British passports because both India (birthplace of Freddie’s parents) and Zanzibar (birthplace of Freddie and his younger sister Kashmira) were part of the British Empire’s colonial holdings at the time of each of their respective births- therefore they were automatically considered British subjects (citizens).
Yes. Freddie Mercury did an amazing job composing the album Barcelona. One of the most talented and versatile musician, singer, and song writer of the 20'th Century. There is usually a good deal of commentary around Freddie Mercury on Barcelona, but most do not understand Montserrat Caballé's amazingly spectacular performance she delivered nor her immense talent and skill. I consider her the top seprano operatic performer I will see in my lifetime. I remember when they came out with this album. Top opera singers where not happy with Montserrat. She was advised against releasing it by Pavarotti. She knew there were risks, and she was forging new ground... but she was strong spirited and courageous. Her and Freddie released it anyway and then went "on the road" performing the album. Every song was a hit. Montserrat did more in the opera world introducing young people to opera with this album and resurrecting interest in opera than any opera singer from the 20'th century can lay a claim. They were the best of friends in everyway and adored eachother...
When this first came out I was mesmerised - and I still am. One of my all-time favourites. Your joy and incredulity exactly mirrored my feelings! I believe the song was composed by Freddie who wanted to work with Montserrat.
Lovely reaction. Brought a tear to my eyes seeing how much you were shocked and into it :) You may enjoy checking out their other duet The Golden Boy. It's quite wild too.
Thanks so much, Ace! please listen to more of his work with "Montsy" - she was a premier Spanish opera soloist - Freddie wrote a whole album for them... (they were deeply in love!) this was intended to be the opener for the Olympics in Barcelona, Spain, but Freddie knew he wouldn't live that long... still, astonishing...
Great reaction! Saw them in concert with my sister, he threw his towel to her! She was on crutches. Wonderful group of talented musicians and singers! Soo beautiful!
This may be the most adorable reaction blog of them all. My heart aches that Montserrat did not get to watch them all as her wish was to win over rock fans to the opera. Many many years later (2012?-16? in an interview she said they had won people over and it made her very happy (and who wouldn't want to do that for this incredible woman?)
Yous did a great job! And felicitations for making the effort to show respect 🙂When Montserrat is not singing in English, she is singing in her native Spanish.
Well, this woman IS not just a profesional but one of the greatest sopranos un History.
Your face was an absolute picture, joy, shock all in 1.
I could listen to this everyday & not get bored, love it ❤
