What alarms me with this one is that she is walking around. Descending steps, how that doesn't affect her singing. It's been remarked before that she seems to project effortlessly, usually standing still and contained while these amazing sounds flow out. But her legs seem to deliver the locomotion here with no affect on her diaphragm and breathing. Her ear for the note is impeccable too. Only 13 when she delivered this, then followed it up immediately with the Flower Duet partnered by Corlea Botha. Later in the same concert she gave us Amazing Grace. What a show.

Amira isnt just an excellent singer, like Angelina Jordan, Amira is a sweet sweet soul. She has done so much charity work in South Africa, its become her second home.
In which there is a similarity with Angelina as well who also does a ton of work for charities. I like to call Amira Angelina’s spiritual opera twin :-)

I have a special request….. Amira singing ‘’When You Wish Upon a Star ‘’. This is sung at an extremely slow tempo & to have the breath control to perform to such an impeccable standard is outstanding, to say the least. I’m sure it’s one that you’ll love to analyse as it would be so difficult to sing this song at such a slow tempo.

The fact that she was only 13 when she did this performance is just mind blowing.
Love your reaction. Amira is perhaps at her best with operatic arias, but she also sings class crossover like Nella Fantasia, O Sole Mio (with Patrizio Buanne), Musicals (Sound of Music Medley), and on the lighter side, Little Drummer Boy. She went into a South African music shop to buy a piano and sung several items to the playing of the owner, including an excellent rendition of Caruso. Amira also has sung several hymns.
Amira is so talented and working very hard to improve. She seems right on track to be a big name in the opera world. She has released 5 albums (I think) so far.
Opera singers can indeed produce a lot of volume and they need to or else they’d be overpowered by the full classical orchestra. Opera is not my favorite genre, but a few months we were invited to go and it is a great experience if only just once.
I absolutely get your appreciation! I keep thinking ...I've heard this one from Amira so many times. ...but every time I'm just caught up no matter how many times I watch her perform.. it's just magic. I'm really grateful that there will always be these incredible videos of her growing up to watch over and over again.. imagine from age 9... It's fantastic.

Something that most don't know is that she is a very accomplished long distance runner. She's near Olympic grade. When she sings it's like it is so effortless. She's 18 now, finished high school, and planning a world tour in 2023.

I don't know if Amira still runs, but she used to run all the time. I know that has helped her ability to effortlessly project those fantastic notes. She does not struggle when singing any song. She has trained herself so well that you will notice whenever she sings an aria like this she sings without any difficulty and her voice, as always, is so clear and pure and
almost perfect. She is just incredible.
If I may be so bold, IMHO, as she sings, each note starts with perfect pitch, sustains with perfect pitch, and ends with perfect pitch. Each note is pure. Her notes are not in need of adjustment, they are at perfect pitch. This is her talent, her genius. Neither does she try to force anything. Of course, in addition, her voice is angelic as well.

You never saw Jackie Evanvho do this (better) , at age just-turned-11, concert on PBS?, OR on Britain's Got Talent, as a guest at age 11? Or later on World Talent, from China, at age 19, when she morphed into the song from starting with "O Mio Babbino Caro" into "Nessun Dorma" in a MOST OUTRAGEOUS HUGE DRESS????
She doesn't use falcetto, just chest & head voice.
She isn't "moving air" because of another reason. She's like 13 here and keeps the microphone by design close to her mouth. The reason is to spare her voice. If she'd used all the volume she could reach, her voice would be ruined by now. Check out her new videos, now her voice has matured she now keeps a much greater distance to the mic.
It is the sound engineer who decide how far your mouth should be from the microphone. Depends on the mic and how he mix her voice and other microphones catching up music instruments on different tracks out to his amplifiers.

I'm sorry but this is not great operatic singing, not by a long mark. Yes, Amira has a pleasant sounding voice for sure but it is not anywhere near refined or developed enough for her to be taken seriously in the operatic world. Having said that, I'm sure she will be internationally successful regardless.
Sorry! She does not have a strong voice. Maybe as she matures, her voice will grow. Also, this aria was written for a man. Listen to other singers of this song. Again, sorry she doesn't have the same quality and strength as other sopranos I've listened to.

@@suchisthismystery2814 . These last few comments do not take into account that she was only 13. She must preserve her voice. Other young singers were criticised for stretching their voices to soon. Whatever these young singers do there are always people who say they should do the opposite.
I listen to a video that had or 4 singers one was amira the others were very mature accomplished singers, I thought that I would see a difference in the 3 since amira was only 13 but the difference was very small if any . Amiras tone in unique and if you're able to factor in the age and experience it's quite amazing what she brings.. also more amira herself admits that her technique is not what she wants yet and knows that more experienced opera snobs are critical of her technique
