Thank you for this! Just moved into a new house and we thought the dishwasher was a lemon. We literally had a CUTTING board in the same spot blocking the door. Our pod never made it out of the door, but when you opened it up, the pod door was open. Genius

Then it happened again & I kept rearranging the dishes & it kept doing it, but I never thought to rearrange the silverware! I thought to myself "let me see if anyone else is having this problem on RUclips." Found a few videos, but then I came across your video😀 It was my silverware blocking the little door. It was a big serving spoon. I moved it out of the way, restarted the washer & everything worked just fine!!! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU😀😀😀😀

Thank you for sharing this 200$ saving experience. we also found that the detergent door of our dishwasher got not opened sometimes but we couldn't find the culprit! we were lucky to search youtube before calling the repair service:).
We have been having this problem off and on for several months. Your explanation makes sense as I do often wash large cutting boards and/or baking sheets which could be blocking the dispenser from opening. This happened on my last load which I am rewashing now. After researching buying a new detergent dispenser I decided to check out RUclips to see if others have experienced the same issue. I watched several videos before finding yours. Just checked my dishwasher and there is a large cover for a pan which could have blocked the dispenser from opening on the previous load. I had coincidenrally moved the cover before the rewash and the dispenser door had opened and the pod had come out on the rewash. I will be careful when I load the dishwasher to see if this resolves the problem. Thank you for sharing your experience.

So funny! On the show, "The View," they had the actor (Tony Shaloub) who plays Monk, whether he's compulsive in real life, as he is on that show. I think he answered something like, "Even the dishwasher needs a little help." Can't remember whether they were talking about dishwashers. Just goes to show that we all have these little mysteries to solve in our lives. What a relief when we figure them out; glad that you did for yourself and for a bunch of people!

This is an old vid, but check water temp in d/w too. Husb thought water temp was fine. Brand new d/w. 1st load. Pod didnt disolve all the way. He checked, and water temp was 112° degrees in d/w. Should be 120°-140°. He adjusted temp at hot water heater. Made all the diff, Yor vid is very good. I wouldn't have thought of that. Thank you.
Wow! Thank you for this video. Brought a brand new dishwasher and dishwasher liquid was just sitting in tub after 2 wash cycles. My dishes were not clean and I was frustrated and assumed the installer did something wrong 😂

Omg!!! I was literally pulling my hair for weeks - called ikea whirlpool people and they had the nerve to say they don’t understand what’s wrong cause “it’s not a problem they have ever encountered with their customers” I was in shock of this because I knew in my heart this problem was not mine only. Only way was to get their repair guy to come look for $150. Just removed things from the way of the door and curious to see what happens now. Thank you abs sorry for my rant.

I was on the verge of calling a repairman when I saw your video. My dishwasher wasn't cleaning the dishes. After having been "washed" by the dishwasher, the dishes would be almost as dirty as when I put the dishes into the dishwasher. So for the past year I haven't used the dishwasher; instead, I've been washing my dishes by hand. Finally today (November 4, 2023) I decided that I'd try one last time to fix the dishwasher. If I couldn't fix it, I'd call a repairman, and if he couldn't fix it, the dishwasher would be sent to the scrapheap. So I watched RUclips videos about dishwashers where the door of the detergent dispenser didn't open or where the detergent didn't dissolve. And I found your video. Because I load my dishwasher with so many dishes (just as my cheap mom used to do), I suspected that my dishwasher had the same problem that yours had. So I ran my dishwasher almost empty, and ... it worked fine. Cutting boards had prevented the dispenser door from opening. And the overload of dishes prevented water from dissolving all of the detergent in the dispenser and from reaching all of the dishes. So you get a big THANK YOU from me.
I'm thinking this is my exact problem, I haven't tried it yet but I'll thank you in advance Luke! I have tried running the hot water as this is another common reason, and it worked sometimes. But other times it doesn't work, and I DID run the hot water prior. So now I've watched your video I see I put my cutting boards in exactly the same place as you! So when it worked for me before, it was likely because I did NOT have the cutting boards in for a wash! Duh, is right! I'm going to try it next time, putting the boards to the other end. That is interesting I believe on our Bosch, which is relatively new maybe 3 years old. The door is higher up and in the middle, and it actually opens into a little compartment on the upper rack - very clever.
After running the dish washer 3 times with the same load of dishes with the same result, after consumer reports, after online shopping, after pricing out the part, but luckily before wasting anymore time trouble shooting the machine I FOUND YOUR POST!!! THANKYOU(FKING tall serving spoons)

Good one. My problem slightly different, but your video inspired me to look closely and evaluate my problem. My door slides open - so no issue with a blocking cutting board. And I use powder, not packets. So dispenser was open, but the last 3 times I ran the washer, each time I got the same result. Door slid open, and the powder half spilled out, with the rest landing on the bottom of the washer where it remained until the end of the cycle. The powder in the washer was baked solid and very dry. Then it dawned on me, I had been under my sink to fix a leaky faucet a few days prior and turned off the water to the dishwasher and apparently never turned it back on. No water - difficult to get clean dishes! So make sure to check that the valve is turned on (usually the knob aligns with the hose I think).
Thanks to your comment I had to change my faucet out and forgot to turn water to dw back on thanks for posting that lol I was thinking and thinking what else could I do

Came to say, “searched for why isn’t my soap box dispensing and opening up” to get all results on how to fix the box then your video automatically lumped in after watching some videos and this was the answer.
Hmmm. I probably just washed an entire dishwasher full of dishes for this very reason! I bought a new cutting board yesterday and and it was in there, perhaps perfectly positioned. I'll try washing another load. I hope this is the solution. Thx!
My silverware bin is attached to the door directly below the same type of detergent holder. I was getting this issue when we put tall utensils in front of the flap. 🤦🏼♂️
This explains why my new Kitchen Aid dishwasher and all 2020 and up models slide open as oppose to flipping to an open position... They must of had a board meeting about this. Either way, great dishwasher and take good care of it.
I am about to try this. I have a Miele dish washer and it's done something similar for the past two washes. It's wasn't even dislodging from the dispenser but it was getting wet and leaking out... I sure hope this is the problem! Will update you once I do one more load!

Mine was doing that and I ran a dishwasher cleaner through it and it doesn't do it anymore. Amazing difference

fill your prewash slot with gel/powered detergent. that will help too.
