Hi Joe, Air compressors usually do not have enough power for airguns. If you are talking about a compressor used for filling tires etc., those usually only go to like 150-200 PSI. You need at least 2000 PSI, usually 3000 PSI for PCP suns. Thanks, Pyramyd Air Team
[Cont'd] Another advantage might be that you can get pure nitrogen. This might not be significant, but...air is about 78% nitrogen & 21% oxygen. Oxygen attacks oxidizable materials, especially, under pressure. Maybe the seals would last longer with nitrogen? Here's a goodie! You can also get helium! The velocity of a gas escaping from a pressure vessel cannot exceed the speed of sound in that gas. For air, that's about 1120 ft/s. For helium, it's MUCH higher. [Cont'd next post]
[Cont'd] They use hyper-velocity helium gas guns in research, to propel projectiles in excess of 20,000 ft/s. Of course, the pressure employed is tremendous. But in a normal PCP, the velocity with helium would still be much higher than with air at the same pressure. Also, helium is completely inert, so there could be no damage to the seals. The only down side is that helium is so difficult to confine, you might have to shoot quickly after filling, before it leaked out into the atmosphere.
That looks amazing as air rifles go. Can not tell if it is a viable option for an shtf ammo saver type rifle for small game procurement though. It has soo many positives but the addition of generally having to have a bike pump along to recharge seems bulky.
I am definitely getting the Discovery from Pyramyd Air. However, I am still determining what caliber I should purchase. I mainly Plink, Squirrel hunt, and shoot invasive Sparrows. .22 or .177?
I have watched a lot of videos from different sites, your has to be the best for explaination, graphs, specs, clairity of videos. I have 2 880 Air Pump Rifles. Looking to improve them, and to move up to PCP or Spring Load. Thank you. Dave
I have a question...It seems that everyone who uses a tank to fill a PCP uses a scuba tank. Why not use a regular gas cylinder, such as is used in welding? Here are the advantages. The tanks are cheaper. I just did a quick search and found prices of $300 + for the scuba tanks, and around $100 for welding tanks. Some were around $70. With the scuba tanks, I've heard that some re-fill shops are reluctant to fill them, if you don't have a scuba certification. [Cont'd next post]
Anyone who weights 135lbs or more can easily charge any PCP rifle with a hand pump. The proper technique is to use one's body weight while locking their arms during pumping as the pressure starts to approach 2000psi in this case and between 2000-3000psi in the case of most other PCP rifles. If you're using a pump, you don't need a tank. A tank is a more expensive way to keep your PCP air gun topped off with pressure, but it's also physically far easier. It does come at the inconvenience of having to get the tanks filled as filling a tank with a hand pump isn't practical. Today, there are plenty of specially designed compressors available at an affordable price to keep a PCP charged effort-free. PCP's have always tended to be more expensive than break barrels, but the level of refinements that the lower end PCP's are coming with these days like regulated reservoirs and such is nothing short of amazing! This new market all started with the Benjamin Discovery PCP featured in this video. A PCP rifle doesn't replace a good break barrel rifle IMHO.... It supplements it.
Thanks for the videos , they sure teach a lot. I have a question , I live in Mexico , And I have been wanting to get a PCP air rifle. THe thing is I dont know if it will work as well , the temperatures where I live are from 80 degrees to 110 degrees mostly dry weather and 2 months of hard rain with the same temps . Will the heat affect the rifle ? What rifle do you recomend.
say if you filled a gun up to the pressure needed then shot half the tank away then put the fill probe of a pump back into the gun, would the gauge on the pump jump up to the pressure already in the tank or just stay at 0 and confuse me by not letting me know how much i was pumping into my gun ?
hi mate, im an experienced shooter, but am enjoying this series of videos. one thing i would point out tho, nothing to do with the videos but more your shooting technique, you could be allot more accurate if you didnt snatch the trigger after every shot mate ;)
can i use like something simple like a paintball c02 tank..i already ordered the Gamo DynaMax and i didnt know about this. i dont want to pump anything 50-125 times and i wouldnt know were to find a scuba-tank. please someone help
What type would the FX Independence fit into ? It can be pre charged with a tank or my the build in pump . After you shoot a shot you can pump the gun about 2 or 3 shoots and your back up to full power . or you can shoot it till it runs out of air 30 shoots I think is what you can get before you have to refill the cylinder with your external tank or the built in pump . I think once you find out about this gun your going to have to add one more type . Because its a multi pump pneumatic that stores the pressure in a different tank like a pcp does . or you can pump up enough pressure and fire it once and start over . So now you can say there are 4 different types. The Fx company is the only company that makes this type of gun . ruclips.net/video/-jbzc-ssiJs/видео.html
im not poor i live in colombia, i have iphone, i am typing from a macbook pro and i have several houses and farms at the colombian "llanos" but as pcps have to pay taxes here and have to be imported here the most cheaper pcp would be like... mmmm... 500 to 750 dollars
Easy to fill . ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME, i am sorry but a 120 PUMPS is not easy its a hell lotta work. and just for 25 shots jeez thats like 5 minutes of plinking after like an hour of pumping
Great video. But do not buy from this company. The sold me defective junk and would not stand by their own return policy. Don't get screwed. Shop elsewhere.
PCPs rule springers are shit would never ever own another! my Daystate Huntsman Classic is less than 6 pounds is recoiless and totally silent and produces 30ftlb a high powered springer produces max of about 25ftlb will kick like a Muel weigh about 10 pounds be loud and long as a roach pole! so need I say more apart from I cant understand why people bother with them?
There's nothing more rewarding than being able to shoot a high power steel springer or gas spring air rifle at near PCP accuracy. Springers are inherently simple by design and easy for someone to maintain with a minimal set of tools. The simplicity of just grabbing the rifle and a tin of pellets and being ready to shoot is a great thing as well. The trick with springers is getting a well made one. There are many on the market these days that don't latch up properly which effects accuracy and gives all springers a bad name. In my collection, I predominantly have magnum Webleys, Theobens, and Dianas. Most were made in the 90's, but it's still possible to get quality ones today. They're all extremely accurate in my hands.
what oil or lube can i use to protect the blueing of my discovery because i live near the beach, this causes that the barrel and the breach get rusty very often

Do you have to release the residual air from the pump after each usage for the day? And how noisy is it comparing with Crosman Nitro Piston guns?
This video is what sold me on my Benjamin Discovery best money i ever spent
@koertje that's not always the case. They only leak when not properly maintained.
Just something to be known, the Louis and Clark expedition used a pre charged pneumatic rifle that had the air reservoir as the buttstock.
@pyramydair but its not arranged . it hard to find episodes in order ,
Do we always cocked the pcp rifle every time were charging hpa either by pump or a cylinderbuddy bottle or tank?

And how much is the pumping effort? It also doesn't say if you need a tank nor how much it costs for the pump and tank. And pcps aren't inexpensive.

@joop226 i use co2 for plinking only because it shoots slower
The benji pump in this vid has a nice brass female foster fitting. Mine came with some crappy galvanized looking female foster end.

Thank you , I have heard from a couple persons that PCP rifles didnt work well in hot weathers
Another thing everyone should remember is that u can use a air gun hand pump and fill paintball tanks. With a lot of work tho.

hi. what would you say is the quietest pellet rifle?
Are there any semi-automatic pre-charged air rifles? If so, where can they be gotten in the UK?
Hi, how do nitro airguns function? Is there a separate cylinder that serves as fuel or how do I charge the nitro rifle? =)
if you get a air compressor rated for 3000psi or above can you use it to charge a pcp
How much psi do u think is in per shot. Thanks
Great !
Can you charge a PCP Air rifle with an air compressor?
Is my air gun any good? smk QB78DL. Cal. 4.5 mm
@waseem1173 125 pumps its only the first time, the next fills you only pump 40 or 50 times, i fill my discovery in 2 min aprox
yep innexpenisve if pumping but
but if you want quick filling equipment get compresor and a skuba tank
My guess is that single shot rifles in air rifle will be about the same popularity as single shot fire arms.
Why not use a dive cylinder? Why use a pump when it's so effortless using a cylinder??
Jon Federman because they might want to be self sufficient or have a long trip to wherever can refill the tank.
HEY WHY CANT I USE AN AIR COMPRESSER TO FILL THE GUN
i will buy the marauder for all things

my discovery keeps breaking and i have to keep sending it back:(
makes me want to trade in my brand new benjamin titan np .22 for a pcp

hahaahhaha inexpensive.... pcps are all but inexpensive...
Plastic toy gun.
if i have Ballistol Lube Multi-Purpose (Green Can) can i use that or do i need the blue one?
i would say the cheapest quiet pellet gun that is a pcp is a benjamin marauder 22 cal
oh, i am sorry did not know you were out of country. :|
260$ is a modest price for a pcp if thats expensive to you then i would check your bank account you might be poor.
nope not for hunting
