I love how Rosalía switches to spanish when she wants to make a clear statement and doesn't want to get "lost in translation" trying to express her ideas in english. When she speaks spanish, you know she's getting really serious :)

Not sure if Pharrell understands much about “Latin Culture” and Spanish language. It’s actually very sexist and Latina women are still struggling with machismo in all kinds of industries and systems. Rosalía knows what’s up with the sexism that exists. We have to work harder and I am glad she is doing as well as she is and keeping it real about the complexities of being categorized as “Latinx”🙌🏽✨

There is nothing wrong in singing in English. Camila Cabello for example as brought back attention to Mariachi , old Salsa and more Latin inspired genre to an audience which wouldn't have heard it otherwise.
Although in past generations but Luis Miguel did the same in Mexico and Latin America.

Exactly. "latins "it's a term only use by the US to racial profiling other communities. Here in Spain we never say "They are latins" We say, they are cubans, mexicans, peruvians, dominicans... and we only used to refer to the the Latin American community as term of brotherhood and because we speak the same language.
Sorry but I disagree. Unfortunately, Latin American people in Spain also suffer from racism and they're usually racially profiled as a whole, and not just with the word "latino" but with other racial despective slurs.
I wish what you said was true, but you just can watch some Spanish tv shows to see how sometimes Latin American people are presented in a racist and stereotypical way.

Loved every single part of this interview. I liked that Rosi adressed the whole "being latino" issue. It's something a lot of people, outside of latino or hispanic culture, always gets wrong and it's something that's been bothering me since I discovered her music (23:59). There's been spanish male artists being nominated for "Latino" awards for YEARS (Alejandro Sanz, Enrique Iglesias, Miguel Bosé) and this discussion didn't exist then but now Rosalía is here and there's no tweet or IG post in which she isn't "called out" because of it. And I agree, this is an important issue to adress since "Latin", at least in these awards, actually means "Hispanic". I'm glad they mentioned it.

I do know that España, Italia, Francia and Portugal are also "Latin" because their languajes comes from Latin. It's a huge topic, sometimes misunderstood. Latino, a procedente de un país cuya cultura y lengua materna proceden del latín = Países europeos.
Latinoamericano/a = procedente de la parte de América que fue conquistada (odio esta palabra) por un país latino en este caso, España . Si hubiesen sido los griegos se llamaría Grecoamerica me explico.
En conclusión el hecho de que es latina, que no latinoamericana no es ni siquiera un debate . Simplemente es.

And for instance whenever I lived abroad in the north of Europe they address us as Latin cause clearly outside of the language there are some differences as well physical wise between Latin European countries and the rest of Europe. I don’t know why is so complicated. Latinos and Latinoamericans are different terms. Nobody is claiming to be Latino or disclaiming . Nor it makes me any more or less cooler . It’s just a fact . You get to have your own point of view but that doesn’t change the reality .

Wow her English has gotten so good! I like so much where she said at the end that creating is a dialogue, I believe that also spaces need to me made for the creators who have been marginalized. Music is such a beautiful unique language yet the industry has become so cookie cutter almost square so I hope to see in future artists and creatives who break the mold with the support of big wigs who also want that.

Rosi es tremenda representante de las mujeres no sólo en la industria musical, pero en todo. Me encanta las agallas que tiene para decir lo que es cierto, si a una mujer no se le da el papel principal porque aún no alcanza los números de un hombre, difícilmente algún día podrá llegar a tenerlos, es como en debate diario sobre la vida profesional de una mujer, puede ser muy talentosa, pero si encima ella se encarga de administrar las finanzas y todas las tareas del hogar y además la crianza de los hijos, difícilmente priorizará su vida profesional y podrá explotar todo ese talento.
Me encanta también que mencione que su música es juzgada por llevar el término "latina" cuando por años se ha premiado a artistas como Alejandro Sanz en esa categoría ( porque es buenísimo), pero sin recibir ese rechazo, y eso que viene del mismo país y él se ha declarado fan de ella abiertamente y la secunda en todo.
Yo veo a Alejandro Sanz y a Pablo Alborán nominados (merecidamente) este año también en los Billboard Latinos y nadie les molesta como molestan a Rosi. Double standards! Esto ya va más allá de si es latina o no, es más misoginia y machismo (como ella lo dijo, hay otros temas debajo de esa conversación que deberían ser hablados y visibilizados).

After they started talking about man privilege in the music industry, and Rosalia went really deep and sensitive about it, the interviewer just translated it to Pharrell on just one miserable sentence, and then switch the subject, but Pharrell came back to keep talking about it. You can really tell the interviewer is just following a script and not caring anything about real subjects that matters. Love this two 💜

Interesting point of view , i saw it more ( especially the relacion remix comments) as her using her white priviledge to demand more over artists and then covering it up with its because im a woman. she had a platform on billboard she could have also brought up how the western media especially bill board and mtv do their best to cut out latina atrists but never fail to give the males and especially racially ambiguous and white spanish artists a platform on their so called latin apreciation weeks and awards .

Yo te puedo decir, desde mi experiencia personal y profesional, que los españoles que conozco que saben hablar inglés con un buen nivel tienen casi todos un acento parecido y que es prácticamente idéntico al de Rosalía o cualquier otra celebridad española que puedas escuchar hablando un buen inglés. Por ejemplo Pau Gasol, Antonio Banderas, o incluso Nadal en estos últimos años. Es el acento por antonomasia que tienen los españoles que saben hablar inglés. Ya si tú personalmente lo encuentras bonito o feo es cuestión de gustos. De hecho la mayoría de nativos angloparlantes encuentran el acento español de españa entre los más bonitos, divertidos y sexys junto con el latinoamericano, portugués, italiano y francés.

@Jordan Tyler just like the interviewer said, in the US, they refer to Spanish music (Pop, Reggaeton, Rock) as Latin Music regardless of origin. Even Rosalía agreed and understood why she is part of it.

She is latina for crying out loud! Nobody has ever said she is latinamerican. Not even herself . The reason why latinoamericans are called like that it’s because you speak Spanish. A language that comes from a latin country in this case, Spain. As a matter of fact if her music was categorized as Spanish music instead, Latin American artists would be included in this category as well. I don’t understand why all of the sudden is a debate when it’s actually a fact lol

Si tu papa es yoruba y tu madre es inglesa, tu eres un mix. Pero siendo un mix no puedes venir y decir a tu padre que tu eres yoruba y que él no... Es lo mismo aquí, latino define a una etnia europea, ustedes tienen parte de herencia latina. Pero Europa es donde la etnia latina proviene.
