Steel Vengeance VS Mean Streak Side by Side POV Comparison

- Based off the animated POV of Steel Vengeance, take with a grain of salt
A side by side comparison of Mean Streak and Steel Vengeance to show the timing difference between the two rides. Both rides are timed from the end of the chain lift to the final brake run. Steel Vengeance is over 300 feet longer in length than Mean Streak but watch the results.
Mean Streak was a wooden roller coaster built by Dinn Corporation in 1991. Steel Vengeance is the newly announced steel coaster being built by Rocky Mountain Construction which is being created with the existing Mean Streak structure. The ride follows the same exact foot print as Mean Streak but as you can see is a whole lot different. It is set to open in the spring of 2018.
I am aware of POVs from before Mean Streak had trims but I wanted to compare how the ride has run the majority of its career (it's had trims since the mid to late 90s) to what it will be transforming into next year.

Amazing how much faster Steel Vengeance traverses the course of the layout than Mean Streak, despite being slightly longer.
Eccentric Gamer it would've completed the circuit faster if there weren't trims on that first drop
Yeah those trims sucked, but who knows how rough it would've been without them haha
The problem is, this is not a fair comparison since he didn't do the side by side from start to finish. Not only that but the video of Steel Vengeance is only a computer mach up and not the real thing. Who knows what will happen once the real coaster is don't and someone does the comparison video right.
I'm pretty sure Steel Vengeance IRL will still be faster than Mean Streak.
Toonamp Steel vengeance in real life is currently only 4 seconds longer than the animation, and that is with much colder weather. These animations are usually extremely accurate, within ~2 seconds of the real ride when it has opened to the public. And, once the ride opens, rides will usually vary in length by a couple of seconds, because it depends on the weight of the train and the temperature outside

I'm low-key gonna miss Mean Streak. Just a chill ride sittin' in the back of the park. Always a walk-on. If CP gets a GCI I will totally forget about it though lol
Not sure if chill ride was the best way to describe it. I'm a diehard Cedar Point fan, but man the Streak was rough as could be.
You're right it was very rough, but I mean it had a chill layout. If you could get past the roughness, it was an OK ride for very little to no wait. Can't wait for Steel Vengeance though! Ain't nobody sayin' CP needs chill rides lol!
I'm The only one who wasn't bothered by mean streaks roughness. I honestly found it was one of the smoothest wooden roller coasters I've been on. Maybe because I've been on le monstre.

RIP to Mean Streak! I finally made it to CP earlier this year and Steel Vengeance was absolutely mindboggling in comparison. The last section of the ride where there are the 90's and inversions surrounded by all the beams almost makes it impossible to know which way is up. I loved the old woodie, but good lord, the new mutation is an absolute MONSTER of a ride. So cool to see both side by side on video!
2 things I remember about the mean struck was that it was the most whiplashing rollercoaster and that the run thru the internals of the monstrosity of wooden scaffolding was the best part about it. Gemini was kind of like this as well. I'm glad to see they kept the better aspect of it and even improved upon it.
I loved Mean Streak. The first time I rode it the line was at least 2hrs long(1994 or 1995 ). I learned to ride the wooden roller coasters last as I got older. Steel Vengeance is my favorite coaster. Millennium Force is a close second.
I road mean streak its very first year. That was honestly enough lol! There’s a reason there was never a line. It was rickety, overlong, and a guaranteed headache. Steel Vengeance looks incredible.

I disagree.
I was there in ‘92 & ‘94 (July) and there most certainly was a line. Did it use the entire maze? No. But we waited at least 45-60 minutes to get on that ride. We never simply walked right in and right on the ride itself.
I am glad I got to ride mean streak many times as a young kid. I don't think I would go on it now that I am over 40. Vengeance looks awesome. Can't wait to give it a try.
I’ll admit... I was sad when I saw them deconstructing mean streak. I just felt we’d lost son of beast at KI, so I didn’t want mean streak to go...then I thought about how rough it had gotten over the years....then it became a distant memory once I rode steel vengeance! Like, “mean streak, who?” 😂

It kept a lot more design elements than I thought it did. Mean Streak was rough, but fun as a kid. I have memories of riding it a lot as it was pretty easy to just get on and off of (no line) and it was a pretty long ride. Regardless of my nostalgia though, the transformation this ride underwent was like a caterpillar to a butterfly.
Good look. Can you imagine if MS did go as fast as SV. You're teeth would be rattle out of your head and your spine out of your back lol they'd have a chiropractor station in the photo booth ; )
Sad thing is that the last time I was at cedar point I was younger, and too scared to go on Mean Streak, now only Steel Vengeance exists. Would have loved to given a comparison

well well...won't Miss that rough ass ride but I am happy they didn't get rid of all that wood which I would've been curious what would've been there seeing its alot of room anyway I'll be there next year...front seat:)
I'm an older guy and wood coasters are my favorites. I'll miss the mean streak just like I miss the Big Dipper. But at least they're still Kennywood I can ride the jackrabbit, the racer, & thunderbolt
Loved Mean Streak and sorry to see it gone, but Iron Vengeance looks very impressive.

Wonder if cedar point is adding a record breaking gci next then.
Now that the SV has been out for a while you should make a new video with actual footage, not the CG preview. And have the SV footage slowed so that you can compare the changes.
Isn't there a POV of MS that doesn't have trim breaks? That would be a better comparison between the two.
E K There is but I wanted to make a comparison with how the ride has run the majority of its career (it only ran trimless for a few years and has had trims since the mid to late 90s.) The trimless POV takes about 1 minute and 30 seconds.
LOL, I was getting sleepy watching the left POV, I had to look at the upgrade on the right to keep focus, I'm glad they modified that piece of Sh!%. I couldn't imagine that Mean Streak ever was consider a good idea during its premiere
I liked mean streak. I like wooden coastersI rode this the first year it was in the park and every year since with Cedar Point has a thing against wooden coasters, Blue streak being the only true wooden coaster left, my ass goes to Kennywood. Nothing like sitting in the last car of a wooden coaster and getting thrown around like you're writing a buckboard. Good Woody's act like a whip the front of the train is the most stable part the rear is the snappy tail.

What are trims? I'm guessing it's a safety thing that makes it go slower based on the description.
Jaren Cascino Trims is short for Trim breaks which slow the train down without fully stopping it to prevent either to many g forces, damage to the track, or painful ride experiences
The animations used for RMCs is often fast. The real ride often takes longer.

Won't miss that horrible excuse for a coaster. Have ridden other RMC's and they're absolutely loaded with airtime. Looks like this will continue that tradition. Should be an absolutely massive upgrade to the park. MS was nigh on unridable in recent years.
