Maitri Thakkar That is what we really should strive for as Indians. Not letting loose the grip of our own soil is so much necessary to be taught in schools, but sadly it's the mostly underrated topic in India.
Aq Sm India ki accent sbse best , ye america ke log ko pronounce he nhi krte aata..."Ra" ko galat pronounce krte he....Hmari tongue flexible hoti hai, jiske wajah se hm koi bhi word pronounce kr skte he wo nhi
@@starredmonk Kindly go through the information. Nothing is wrong mate. The accent in which the Americans speak or British speak is correct according to the dictionary. Both of them are unique.Every word has it's own specific syllable. In Oxford dictionary beside every word in bracket the appropriate syllable is highlighted. Although the accent in which the Americans speak is more modified and emphasised. But the British english and accent is the pure form. We,Indians, claim that our accent sounds more natural and realistic. But that's not the right approach. Since childhood days we've been taught by our teachers/mentors how to master the language 'English'. But we haven't been taught the correct way to pronounce a single word. Examples- Better is pronounced as Bedder, Water is pronounce as Watah (Brit) and Waterr('r' stressed US), Button is pronounced as Bu-on ('t' silent US), garage is pronounced as gurage (US). VE GE TA BLE(sounds like 4 syllable), CHO CO LATE (sounds like 3 syllable). But they are pronounced as Veg_table, Choc_late. Thank You.
Loved her speech.. She definately definately changed my outlook towards Hindi and all our Indian Languages... Though we know English doesn't mean that our Indian languages should be look down upon and we should feel ashamed to speak them.. We are i dependant as country but we are still being ruled by the mentality of British. A truly eye opener for every Indian....
You Indians are not alone. I am from Pakistan. One of my cousins have been living in the UK for years and as a result, he has a very British accent. But he gets called out for "faking" an accent a lot whenever he visits Pakistan. I, on the other hand, get judged and bullied for having a heavy Pakistani accent. Both me and my cousin are sick and tired of getting judged for our accents. People are just mean!
Well said. Besides, you don't have a fake accent. You've just spent more time on learning and mastering the language when everyone else was sleeping during their school days... Ever thought about that? :) I've been terribly annoyed at the question too. Often to the point of self doubt and guilt... that I might have got it from movies that I watched, the friends that I've had, or the teachers that were my guides. But honestly, who cares. It is what it is. Glad that you covered it :)
I have an accent too that is exotic but it's my natural one. Probably i have acquired if from watching English movies since childhood. I am often praised for that but also not without criticism.
Priya. Never stop writing and performing. Your voice is magic. Your words are healing:) Sadly all that you said in the video is a brutal truth about our Indian society. We live in India where our mother tongue is Hindi. Yet when we go for jobs in MNCs and elsewhere as well, we don't get any unless we own "great communication skills" in English of course. And ironically those judging other's accent in English, know least about Hindi themselves. Yet feel no guilt since they are in majority. But who cares. Today we know You and want to hear You above all who try hard to pull you down. God bless you:)
Thank God finally someone talks pro on having an accent .. Thank you so much Priya :) .. This is always been an unscreamed "wannasay" to people to have questioned my accent even while I was in India not having travelled anywhere .. I always wish that people 'd observe the subtitles popping up when a person of non English race talks in English .. and some other non English race talks with an accent .. there wouldn't be any subtitles that would pop up .
Isn't it supposed to be opposite - words more important than the accent? I think woh kehna yahi chahti thi par shabdon mein ulajh gayin. Ironic since this talk was based on the importance of words and not accent.
exactly, i think it was a joke on the audience that they too are not listening to the words and are giving more importance to the accent. She may have used example of indian and british accents in english but she may have been demonstrating by spwaking in indian and urdu versions of Hindi. say in the end, urdu accent mein lafza aur lahaz jaise word aa gya to people were already set to clap for the poem without wondering why it was the other way around
She was an English teacher in Australia. I have seen her in Big Brother Australia. She did very well....lasted a lot longer than anyone wouldve expected.
Whatever might bother you, but the accent seems like really amazing and I love your enunciation of the words. And, yeah, your other pieces are also amazing!
english to bus zarurat hai for me to live in usa its just like a daily basis use for me like a prop nothing else but for me my urdu is best thing i ever had or ajj yaha apko itni achi urdu itnau umda alfaz kka chunao or itna khubsurat lehjay k sath apko dekh k infact sun ker bht khushi hui
i always miss ur appearance on BB ...I love ur Personality ,n ur damnn accent ..u r like Bombshelll ,i am ur admirer always :):) Lafzon se zyada tavajjo log accent ko dete h .. 'what a line' ;)
That 'fine' thing in school for speaking in your mother tongue..in my case bangla...yeh Angrezi schools kuchh aisa kar gaye.. English toh sikha dali, par mother tongue achhe se sikh na paye...phir class 12 mein maine kuchh aisa kiya...well maine nhi mere results ne kuchh aisa kiya...jaha.English mein 89 aur Bengali mein 98 mill gaye...1st time I was proud to be Bangali in my English medium school. All credit goes to my Maa and our Bengali teacher though.. :)
EVERYONE has an accent in EVERY language. Accents CAN change in a person depending on where they live for a certain period of time to get influenced, whom they talk to often, what they are exposed to, like movies, TV news etc., All these factors influence a person's accent. Mocking a person for their accent is childish and ignorant. Some people are more prone to picking up an accent faster than others. That DOES NOT mean they have a "fake" accent. Some find an accent more comfortable to use and talk so they use that accent for their communication. Even though I live in India, when I talk to an Indian, my accent is mostly Indian but has a heavy American influence to it. But when I talk to an American, my accent changes to totally American as I lived in the US for a long time. When I see some British people talking, I tend to catch their accent. That does not mean I have a "fake" accent. People need to understand 1. EVERYONE has an accent 2. Having an accent is not a bad thing 3. Switching accents is not being "fake" 4. Even native speakers has an accent 5. Its childish to mock a person on their accent 6. Grammar & sentence formation is more important than the accent 7. Conveying a message in a non native language EVEN if it is grammatically incorrect is still okay as the other person knows another language other than their mother tongue and at least trying 8. Language skills does not mean intelligence or smartness in the other areas of knowledge and life in general So please quit mocking a person's accent. There is no such thing that one should talk only in one accent!!
GMSunshine Watching movies and tv shows doesn’t really give you an accent. British ppl watch American shows from a very young age...i don’t see any of them with an American accent lmao.
Shagun Maheshwari yeah I think she said it the other way round at the end.....because the speech was about giving more importance to words than accent.
wow...what a fluent Hindi talk. I guess she wanted to say words are more important than accent but said otherwise. Still I loved the way she spoke in Hindi.

Kabhi Kabhi lafzo se zyada lahze ki zyada ahmiyat Hoti Hai...This is universal truth...for example if you speak slowly this word..."boliye na..."
Agree so much with her. I have been in Australia for the last 20 years and my accent defines me and what I have experienced rather what I am not.
People will judge you anyway. Agree with u ma'am
Your pronunciation is really incredible!!! Love your tone
I can relate to this so much, I adore you. ❤️
Spoken true 💕💕💕💕❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ from NEPAL 🇳🇵 🇳🇵🇳🇵🇳🇵🇳🇵🇳🇵🇳🇵
Wow! Lafzz or lehze me frk... You described this difference amazingly 💜
It was really good every word carry a huge meaning.... Please bring more videos from Priya Mallik
I listened to for the first time.wow wow you are fantastic...
Well said I experience this too every time I travel to India
Many of my foreign friends say that " your accent is way too much good to be Indian"
My friends say " can you stop faking accent? "
Lmao
i love her in bigg boss 9..she is one of my favs..😘😘
Did she mean it the other way around at the end? or maybe just I didn't get it? 🤷♀️
Shagun Maheshwari yea I too think that it should have been lehjey se jyada tawazzo lafzo ko dey.
that's the irony...
she counters herself at the end..
more irony is that whole speech is for 'words' on which she stumbled
Did she do that on purpose or she got confused at the end!!!??
That's wat the turning point is.. it was an irony.. she felt the opposite said the opposite !!😍😍 Hope u understand !!
Shagun Maheshwari yeah I think she said it the other way round at the end.....because the speech was about giving more importance to words than accent.
Oh..!! Wow..
Her speaking technique
So beautiful nd flowy english
Glad to listen you...
Thanks
Beautifully spoken
What a combination of Urdu Hindi and The English.. 👍👍
Dill jeet liya ladki. Greetings from Pakistan. People in sub continent are suffering from this language shaming disease.
True what she said..... I too have a fake accent ... I can speak in British and American accent . Then you know what ...Kuch toh log kahenge
Siddharth Sharma Are you a malayali? And do you live in ernakulam? Just guessing
You prolly can't
I 100 percent doubt that you can speak in the British and American accent.
Proud and Awesome, These are things which we Indiana don’t talk about.
When you had to pay fine for speaking in Hindi! God!! That’s so true!
wow...what a fluent Hindi talk. I guess she wanted to say words are more important than accent but said otherwise. Still I loved the way she spoke in Hindi.
Firstly she said lafzaon se zyada lahjae ka importance di jaati hai( where accent is more valuable then words)
She want a world where lafzaon se zyada lahjae ko importance mile ( same as above)
So this kind of people will teach us importance of Words over Accent 😂
all those people who are saying, her accent is not fake, its prefect. Even she knows that
Recall my Past School days.Well, my Mother admitted me in Convent School as well as hostel for my good education. It was compulsory to speak English. My English was very poor😩. Many times i got caught of not speaking and even i got a punishment😂😂.
As an Odiya i can totally relate u mam. I was kneel down several times in sun light becoz was not able speak English in my new English medium school. When every other students do prayers i stand like prison Infront of dem.
I m fan of Priya Mallik from BB...nd she is so confident .
She has got nice English and also hindi ...!! Hatsoff
Nice one. Gajab ka explanation
Nailed it ma'am....spectacular sarcasm
Your accent is fabulous. Maybe you should do a teaching video on how to develop such great accent. I am sure you're an awesome teacher as well.
Same same same !!
I really appreciate her !
She got confused about the lehjaa and lavz....in the end...!! Doent matter...we got the point girl...love u❤
Awesome at the end
She told
" Give importance accent over words "
Instead of
"Give importance words over accent"
Another irony thing what i felt that she used urdu mixed with hindi ... It has very strong meaning behind this...
We are ready to accept urdu words but not english accent ... On the other side we are ready to accept "farratedar( fluent) english " but when comes to speak in english , we becomes more possessive on accent ...
On conclusion
Our society is confused with words and accents....
Whuch is to accept
Words or accent????
This is what she meant through the poem
Your knowledge about Hindi and Urdu is very weak ,I must say. Hindi and Urdu are the same languages, my friend.Google 'hindustani language' or maybe read what the linguists have to say about it.
Wah amazing... Badi hi Sacchi baatein bol gaye Ji aap

Love your way of speaking,, I wish I can😔
If someone has notice that she is speaking Urdu not Hindi....by the way I love both languages.....
I want a video that conveys the message "Just becuase someone doesn't speak English much and when speaks has a good accent doesn't mean they are faking it"
Beautiful woman with a beautiful mind
Learning the prononciation of english is a part of learning english.Pronounce the english in native way is also a part of learning english.
