    Contrary to what's said at 0:53 you want the ball's first bounce to be about half way between the end of the table and the net, as you see at 1:37. That way it will bounce twice on the other side.

      Nope,this technique was first used by Waldner .The first bounce is very close to the end of the table regardless of the length.The opponent has less time to judge the serve length and the ball bounces lower on the other side.Boll can't keep the first bounce consistently deep cause he leans too much forward with his body. Samsonov's high pendulum serve is really good for controlling the depth of the serve.

      @@dickn.ormous1064 The point is that what's said in the video is different from what's shown in the video. What's shown is a fine serve (not the same as Waldner's) which makes it hard for the opponent to loop because the ball bounces twice on their side. To achieve this you want the first bounce to be halfway between your end of the table and the net. The fast long serve is fine too, just a different serve, and yes its first bounce is near your end of the table.

      @@dickn.ormous1064 Also, we can vary how much spin is on it while having heavy and no spin look identical, travel with the same pace, stay the same height, but then come off our opponent's rubber completely differently. Playing a farther first bounce allows the opponent so much time to figure out exactly what's coming. That means he makes a decision much earlier. And that generally means they can attack us. With the shorter distance bounce, they don't get any good indicators of what the ball is doing til it's already on their side. And varying spin levels will fool even the best. Once our opponent gets fooled a one time, he then has to wait and watch for kick from the bounce on his side, making him have to play far more passively because he's having to wait til way later to make the decision on what to do. This, in turn, makes our opponent have to be very frantic about our 3rd ball attacks because he cannot anticipate what we will do since we have all the options because of his passive play. It has a way of making an opponent feel very rushed and out of the "flow" of the game. Players tend to lose confidence at that point. So, use that against them too.

    First bounce close to the end of the table??? Not really, it s between the middle and the net...

    • @dickn.ormous1064

      His serve is just Ok-ish for a pro.Kinda like Kong Linghui.He was never into third ball attack.He uses the reverse serve yet he doesn't have a strong BH flick.His serve tactics are not optimal for a lefty.Xu Xin style makes more sense.

    • @paulbismuth10
      @paulbismuth10 4 года назад

      I don't think it's his best stenght. Yes it's a short serve but easy to return. It must be the placement that is the most important thing in this service. And he often uses the reverse pendulum serve, sometimes more than this one. Anyway not the best serve in my humble opinion but for a very intelligent player it does the trick with his strategies.

    • @mortuc1
      @mortuc1 3 года назад +1

      @@tahmidahnaf3834 no... Just no. You want to have the first boumce as close to the table as possible when you want to serve long and fast. For short serves you want the first bounce to be kinda in the middle between netand endline. And you can CLEARLY see that with every of his serves in this video. The eyplanation he gives before hand is just confusing. Just think about it: if you have your first bounce close to the endline but also want to serve short you would have to put so much power into the serve to basically "pop it up".

    • @cosmeticcarrepair

      Exactly! They always say this in videos, why? Short serves are mid table, long serves are the only serves you serve close to the end.

    i think that Timo Boll shouldn't tell his strategy in you tube, because other players can watch this video and study his technique to a future match. Anyway obviously is my favourite player. ¡Great serve!
