  • This is three months of small microgram mass meteors detected using the MAARSY radar system in Andenes, Northern Norway. These meteors are so small that they will not be seen by eye. The detected trajectories are determined using interferometry (azimuth and elevation), and propagation delay (range). For high quality detections, it is possible to propagate the orbit back and see where the meteoroid that burned up in the Earth's atmosphere came from. In this video, I'm showing all high quality detections between 1st of January 2023 and 1st of June 2023. The color indicates inclination. If inclination is over 90 degrees, this means that the meteors are retrograde, i.e., orbiting in the opposite direction as the Earth is around the sun. An inclination of 0 means that the orbital plane is aligned with Earth's orbital plane.
