I think Samsung and other companies need to learn how Sony to put all the necessary components inside the phone instead of giving excuse to remove features like remove headphone jack and SD card slot. They are capable to do it but just do not want to do it. Thumbs up for the good video 👍
Thanks!👍
We know the reasons why others have removed the headphone jack and SD card slot (more money by forcing end users to buy extra accessories and new phone)
@@GreasyFox Not to mention more money for higher Storage variants. Just getting more storage is insanely expensive.
@@jashsylde8136 exactly, not saying a fast micro sd card isn't expensive but it has so much advantages, for example I have the Xperia 5 II which has a hotswap toolless microsd slot and when I'm shooting with my camera and I want to put the pictures on my phone I just put the micro sd card from my camera into my phone, data transfer is alot faster and more reliable and it's swapped in like 15 seconds
They want money,thats it
This is the only teardown I found of the Sony Xperia Pro-I. I REALLY appreciate your work!
holy moly, the most complex phone teardown i have ever seen
😀👍
Full size motherboard 😄👍
This is the first time i see a motherboard across the whole frame since the day of old Nokia. Can't fathom how Sony managed to layer a screen, a body frame, motherboard, battery and finally the back plate. Looks like a long lost production technology
Yup, some people think its well engineered and some think its old concept. I'n my opinion I think its a good device but they could have engineered it a bit better, more organized and easier to repair and added wireless charging. However the price itself is definitely not worth it to most people, so adding anything extra would only increase the price further. :)
@@PBKreviews IMO, that feat can be attributed to Apple which vehemently stand for their total control of devices even tough the buyer has spent $1000 more for the iPhone. I remember as complicated as Nokia N95 was or early Android devices around 2010 - 2015, everybody could take the phone apart and do the repair.
@@erick-gd7wo yup
Htc also do that motherboard design.
This guy needs more subs
Purely amazing disassembly YT video! A huge THANK to you, sir, for sharing this fantastic teardown and repair video review! Best in class! Wishing you all the very best always! Stay blessed! Best regards from Sweden!
Thanks! :)
Thanks brother
I waiting for this
You're welcome!
Good work man !!
Thanks!
Great video
Love your channel
Thanks!
1" sensor brought me here 😍 teardown well done
👍 thanks! 😀
big like before start watching ✌✌
👍✌
I was wondering why sony didn't put any thermal pads / paste on this device. I remembered the 1st xperia pro, it has a the largest vapor chamber on any phone on the market.
Yet the Pro - I with the Snapdragon 888 chipset doesn't have any cooling capabilities and we all know the heating issues with the 888 chipset.
U r The best as usual..... 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks! :)
The rear glass looks less complicated than most phones to remove. That gives me hope that I'll be able to replace the battery myself when that day comes =) The rest of the internals look beautifully complex, in a totally crazy way.
And I thought the ROG 5 was mildly complex, this is beautifully insane
lol ya
I like to come back to this video to remind me of how complex the internals are now that I own this phone. The phone itself is amazing and solid construction. After seeing this video I made sure to get good insurance for it since the screen is difficult to replace :-). There is something to be said about Japanese engineering, so much power packed inside a small device but still pretty good on battery life with a few tweaks. Also now I don't have to carry a separate camera to take great photos!
👍😀
That's true pro level it reminds of the old Sony Ericsson phones with the stylus from the inside and everything is replaceable
👍
The mother of all motherboards.
Yup!
Your videos is so good plz make videos like this onn RUclips
👍😀
You're awesome man💥
Thanks!
I think 3/10 is not fair 😳 the process of disassembly of this phone is to easy and also excited , a laptop size motherboard of this phone is too exciting to see and the longest teardown is because of a lot of components in this phone , I just imagine if Apple maked this phone , thanks for the teardown and I will watch it again and again , for me it's one of the best disassemby in this channel ♥️
Thank you! The score is not just based off taking it apart, I score it based of design, ease of replacing the screen, battery replacement, charger port and misc part replacement, as well as parts availability for the phone. I will be using this scale and will implement a score chart on videos in the near future to show how I came to the score I chose. :)
اینه مهندسی تمام عیار سونی!😍😍😍
👍
Thank you, it was very interesting to see what's inside my phone
You're welcome :)
If you can, please let me know how long the battery can last for normal use..
Still wondering when I will have to replace the battery and most important whether I trust myself to do it.. Really like the Pro i except its battery.
Excellent video! Thank you!
I fear I need to replace my kamera as it is rattling too much.
Can you tell me how you glued/fastened the battery as well as the camera cable when you finally reassembled the phone?
Thanks for your help!
largest motherboard in a smartphone of this era
Yup!
Subscribed!
Thanks!
That technician might be the best there is. Great and well done.
Thanks!
This motherboard is a revolution!
👍
It’s relatively modular. If the spare parts are available, it’s possible to replace things if those got broken in the future.
Yup, but usually sony phone parts aren't the easiest to find :)
very complicated .... its SONY ! GREAT JOB !!!!! 👍
👍 thanks!
God tier. Just replaced my USB with this as a guide.
Adhesive, adhesive, more adhesive.
Ya, that might be a possibility.
3 out of 10 is so much fun but the mainboard architecture looks so nice yet complicated!
Yup it looks pretty but can be a pain to do repairs on. :)
Nice man
Thank you sir!
Very interesting 😍
👍
Wow, very detailed teardown thanks.
Do you think it would be possible to transfer some heat to the backplate by removing some parts of the plastic cover and adding thermal pads?
Thank you. The problem would be, the plastic cover on the back side has antenna lines drawn on it, so damaging that or removing that would probably cause signal issues. Also the processor side and the components which heat up the most on the main board are touching the inside frame portion which is between the screen and the motherboard, so most of the heat from those components is exhausted through the front where the screen is. It might be possible just to add some thermal paste (a very little amount since you don't want it spreading around the chip) on top of the processor, ram and so forth to help transfer heat better. However the way they have designed it, the metal shields which cover the processor and chips are seated firmly against the chips (so the chip makes contact with the shields to transfer heat to it) so there really isn't any room to add much of anything.
@@PBKreviews I see, thanks.
@@4paapii you're welcome
wow first time i am seeing this kind of mother board.
Yup, been a while since I saw anything similar to this in a phone.
woww....nice sir
Thanks! :)
You got yourself a subscriber for featuring an xperia phone
Thanks! :)
Good job ❤️❤️
Can i ask you, what does it seem so complicated and the motherboard is more like a computer not a phone?
Is this complexity has something to do with performance in any chance?
Hi, no it's not related to the performance. Just the way sony engineered the layout. They could have designed it differently and still had the same performance. Thanks! :)
I think it's such a complex design cause they used some rx100 internals apart from sensor - ISP or something to make it work.
No hole punch, but a normal screen. makes watching vids so mutch better.
👍
Tôi yêu kênh của bạn.
Thanks!
thats it, I'm buying this thing, never gona try and fix it but it's so over-engineered that I can't not show appreciation for it
great video!
Also, any thoughts on why Sony omitted wireless charging on this phone? seems like they could have added it and all other recent Sony phones have at least basic 15w Qi pads
Idk but it would make it more expensive. Though thats not the best explination of why. Check out xperia 1 iii maybe theres a difference
Holy moly, my dream phone😍😔
:)
Complimenti per il video. Per quanto riguarda Sony, internamente il telefono mi sa di strano per come è assemblato, molta fantasia di costruzione. Avrà poco mercato come tutti i modelli Sony.
Thank you :)
Watching this on my PRO-I, impressive how much tech Sony crammed into that slender body.
👍
May I ask, if you would be so kind to answer, how does this phone shares against overheating since this teardown and the guys at GSMArena tells us there's no copper plate, graphite layer or thermal paste for the CPU and the chipset?
And in terms of normal/heavy use and performance... I won't ask for the device not to be boiling if I shoot a 4K video at 120hz/60fps... I've read it auto shut-down
Thanks in avance. I'm currently in-between this one or the 1iii to upgrade my XZ Premium
Does it have 5G? yes or no?
@@PBKreviews Does it have 5G antenna?
@@wolraadwoltemade3275 sub 5G is ok
Need to clean the camera glass, by removing the back glass do I loose water protection?
There are a lot of virs on the mother board to transport heat, they're copper too.
Not sure what virs is but yea there is heat transfer, however I would personally like to see at least some thermal paste or thermal pads to more efficiently transfer heat between the chips and the shields that cover them out to the frame to be exhausted out.
@@PBKreviews modification oossibe?
do you mean " Vias " instead ? 🙂
Nice 👍
Thanks!
I've got to change the fingerprint scanner on mine. At what timestamp in the video does it become accessible?
how do you find the part number of this battery? i can't seem to find it anywhere online. need to buy a replacement battery
how do you separate the cellular antennas if possible? rest of video is awesome!
Some may be possible like the plastic covers which have the grey lines running through, but the board contacts which touch the frame would not be since you will end up damaging the board itself removing those.
need to replace the middle glass lens. where can i find that
Amazing dexterity !!! US$ 1800 phone stripped and assembled like a toy.
👍
What type of vibro motor is there? is is same as Xperia 1 III or 1 II?
where can we get new adhesive?
How long the battery can use with this phone..
Is it considered a good board design?
Technical wise or design wise.
It may be very complex and hard for someone to come out with this complex design, but at the same time it can be outdated or inefficient design.
Which one is it
I'm not an expert in electrical engineering or one of the designers but I feel they could do the layout and organize everything more closer together and fit it on the top half of the board without the need to have such a long full phone length board layout that the battery sits over. They could have a top main board and a bottom sub board where the charger port and other components are attached to, with the separating of the battery in the center like most phones are.
@@PBKreviews No, it is not possible with such a huge sensor and since the main sensor already take up vertical space equivalent to double stacked boards due to which they have to shift the SOC and UFS to some where in middle.
Wow 😲😲 these phone camera 📸 is very big and amazing
Sony Xperia 1 pro is super super phone for 📸 photography and video
👍
XPERIA is for experience. So it will be complex inside it, even it is slender.😉
😀👍
I wonder whether it's possible to take the main imaging sensor from a Pro-I and put it in an RX100 VII, or vis-versa.
I'm not sure, but i would think there might be software issues as well.
@@PBKreviews good point. Drivers would likely interfere, but the 'Pro' tools on the latest Xperias are fairly similar to Alpha cameras and possibly Sony compact cameras.
@@youtubeairways8646 👍
Wow I see why the phone is $1800USD. Everything is replaceable and it definitely looks like computer insides more than a phone. I don't think I have ever seen radio cables in a phone before! But I don't get it, why no wireless charging? Perhaps Sony was concerned about the camera bump or the fact that it doesn't have any heat management? There was definitely a place for a wireless coil. Awesome tear down and rebuild! I used to repair Thinkpads for a living. This brings back memories :-)
Thanks! Yeah not sure why they didn't include wireless charging. Maybe the additional cost on top of how expensive it already is or something else.
My Xperia 1iii has wireless charging, I guess they prioritied the Camera in Pro-I, what is the battery size of the Pro I?
@@Dankzzz The battery is 4500mah. I heard that the RX700 gets very warm when the camera is in use. Since the pro-I has the same sensor and chipset, I think to prevent the battery from overheating and catching fire, they omitted the wireless charging since it heats up the phone. This is why Samsung wireless charging pads have built in fans.
@@deep_space_dave I guess It depends on where you live, here in south Sweden I never get a heath warning. When it was brand new it was abit warm and after a update... It's the same inside mostly, but my 1iii has some sort of cooler tech I think the same is in Pro-i Sony call it Heath cooling or something, even said it in an ad... I think this is the box that spreds the heat to the case. Related to that the 888 runs hot this is not the case here, but the weather vary in the world.
Cellphones can't endure extreme temperatures, I keep mine inside my jacket in the chest, because it's freezy cold, to save my battery etc.
It's very hot here in sweden in the last two summers, but in the winter it's freezy cold... And weather is changing more
Hey, I need to replace the fingerprint scanner of this phone. Do I need to take the main board out to be able to remove the fingerprint scanner?
Did you figure this out? I'm just waiting for my new scanner to arrive in the post.
@@tris5506 You don't need to take the whole thing apart. The screws that are covered by the felt fabric are the last ones that need to be taken out and then you can access the fingerprint scanner.
Well I don't know how you do it, but that's just scary looking to take a phone like that apart, I failed miserably just taking a tablet apart, lol
lol a lot of practice. Been doing this for over 20 years.
The main board is big!
Yup :)
Cool
Thanks!
So to change the charging port for example, you have to basically take apart the whole phone.
Yup pretty much.
@@PBKreviews and to change one of the most repairable things on a smartphone (the screen), you have to basically do the same.
Geez.. talk about Sony making things difficult
@@DenisLiasis Yup, with the screen at least you don't need to remove the motherboard but still quite a few steps before you can replace the screen.
I think this phone is even more complex than zfold 3 and lenovo legion 2.
lol yup it ranks up somewhere with those phones.
that's complex but in japan that is a art XD...
lol well ya it does have its artistic features but that adds a great deal of difficulty to repair jobs :).
I have no knowledge of phone motherboards and stuff so I have to ask what makes this motherboard so complex? Because to me it doenst look so bad, especially if I compare it to something like the board of a razer blade 14 (laptop)
Well comparing a laptop to a phone board is a big difference. It's complex in that it has a lot going on, so many cables to disconnect to gain access to replacing commonly replaced parts like charger ports, screens etc. Usually in most phones, you wont need to remove a motherboard say to replace just a charger port, or a screen etc. But this phone the way things are organized you have to take apart the phone almost entirely to gain access to those parts to replace.
@@PBKreviews ahh thanks for the explanation, that makes alot of sense. Guess it's best to get a good case and screenprotector with this phone or good insurance because I doubt repairs will come in cheap
@@championxxlNL yup, you're welcome.
Wow.. that board..
lol yup
Which material the chassis? Thx.
Aluminum
Now, as if it was open, will it still be water proof // dust proof?
you would need to apply the original pre cut adhesive for the phone to retail water resistance. Usually parts for sony phones are hard to find so yep.
@@PBKreviews Thanks; so a guaranteed good repair shoul be done by Sony service I guess.
In your opinion, why is there no wireless charger inside this phone? Is it because there is not enough space? Because that's what I'm thinking of ?
I would think if they didn't put that adhesive on top of the battery, they would possibly be able to fit a wireless charging coil over the battery. Or they could make the phone just slightly thicker barely even notice the difference. But probably just a cost cutting measure, the phone already is priced expensive so they probably didn't want to add any additional amount on top. Not sure.
The board. It's unique...
Yup, It's not every day you see a phone with such a board. :)
@@PBKreviews yeah that's true
where is heating chamber that release the heat?
the motherboard seems to act as a heatsink on this phone while being connected to the dissipation elements, a bit like a pcb, and transfers the heat evenly to the frame. just a guess nothing definite
What a huge board
I have two things to say:
“ this Japan engineering it is high quality design and made in taiwan”.
This design of the inside is so unique no way wireless charging will fit inside Lol. Why Sony don’t have wireless charging.
I’m really thinking to buy this phone when the price goes down.
Pbk you are awesome iphone are the baddest phones
Thanks! :)
Only good thing about this is that everything is separate. Needs better engineering though this is ridiculously hard to repair.
Yup pretty hard to repair
How do you not have anxiety when taking apart some of these phones lol
lol been doing it for a while, at the moment the only ones that really drive me crazy are iPhones.
Which camera and lens have you used to shoot this video?
A sony handycam fdr-ax33 with the stock lens.
@@PBKreviews oh okay thanks 👍
@@aniketm2591 you're welcome 😀
no wireless charging??
Water got in mine, it's totally dead. Looking at this...I guess it's done for, because if I could even find the parts, I would probably lose something else
Yep, even if you took it apart, its a 50/50 chance you can get it working again based off what might be damaged inside.
Unfortunately they didn't put any heat management, the Phone geht's relatively hot while using it
yeah, usually Sony doesn't have the best cooling.
I am your fan
I want request to you
Please you can put subtitle on your video.

I always wondered why front facing camera sucked so much, now I know why.... Those things are sooooo small
lol yup, but some are actually good. Some phone's focus primarily on the front facing camera so have a bit better hardware there but again nothing like the rear camera.
Glad I didn't go with this over the 1 III
Where do I buy the battery from??
Here are two links (both websites I have bought parts from before so I know they are legit) rounded.com/xperia-pro-i-xq-be42-xq-be52-xq-be62/?sl=en and shop.headlane.co.uk/shop/101202621-sony-xq-be52-xperia-pro-i-snysbq3-internal-battery-25062
@@PBKreviews Thanks a lot!!
Great option aside an 1 III but don't get it why there's no wireless charging included
Ya, I got no idea.
I don't see any good reason why the way this phone was made this way. I think the its very inefficient, I think Sony can make this more simple while having tha same specs and features and also I think the motherboard can be made smaller to make more room for the battery. Its like sony was left behind when it comes to design and manufacturing while other manufacturers are doing their best to manufacture a phones as easy as possible. This phone looks like it came from 2000's when it comes to how complicated it was build.
Yup, reminds me of the older HTC phones back in the day. Those were somewhat a nightmare to take apart.
I think the 888 is the reason why sony use a such a large motherboard. Finally in the end of 2021, we got a phone that can keep calm with 888 in .
Soo, you gonna teach the best tech company, who don't give a stupid excuse like no space to keep the headphone jack, SSD and moreover, this beast has 1 inch Sensor. It's easier said than done.
@@PBKreviews those phones that took a beating and kept on ticking. I remember those also
@@Karthik-yy7gw nope. Thats not my point. 😅. I just hope that they made it more simple to help make disassembly easier for easier repair.

unfortunately in my country it doesn't come in... want to buy abroad the tax fee is too big 😭
Ya import tax can be a pain sometimes. Best bet would be to wait and find some deals on it on ebay or elsewhere.
@@PBKreviews it's the best choice, but for eBay it will be difficult to get a cheap price promo
@@webears12 yep but sometimes some sellers offer a lower good price a few months down the line.
Now I know why this phone costs so high
:)
At 7:40 Soldering parts on the motherboard is very bad
In addition, the drawback of this design is that any failure of the board requires maintenance, and the thing cannot be replaced as a single piece. Like the charging pad on the S-22 Ultra
