I fractured my scaphoid bone on October 09 2023 I was in a cast for 15 weeks (January 23 2024) I prayed to God for 15 weeks and took vitamin D and calcium and made a full recovery without any surgery.
@@Anonymous-uf9mzhey i hope you heal soon man! i'm pretty sure i broke this bone i'm getting an x-ray tomorrow, i'm wondering if you had swelling or a bump underneath your thumb? im praying i don't need a f**in screw lmao
Just had my surgery one week ago. May 2014 I fell from altitude on my wrist. I thought it was no big deal as well and I continued doing my stuff. After few months I noticed it isn't healing and the motion became limited with some pain. Especially problems with push-ups and handstand and I couldn't straighten my right arm as the left one anymore. Due to travels and work I didn't do surgery until now. After more than 5 years artrosis has developed and fortunately there is still blood going through my scaphoid bone. Now they scooped some bone from my underarm and put it in the fracture and fixed with a screw. Doctor says no rugby for me for 6 months :'(. So guys, don't be like me and treat it ASAP.
I was somewhat on the same boat. It was initially misdiagnosed. 20-25% of these fractures are not seen on x-rays initially. I lived with it for 2 years not knowing about it. I saw a orthopedic doctor that sent me to a hand surgeon that told me it'd been broken all along. I did the surgery (proximal pole, non-union) and same bone graft. Took a while to recover and did a lot of physical therapy. Now (almost 10 years later) my mobility is still not the same and I cannot bend my wrist more than 70% (with warm-up). It sucks. My mobility was fine before surgery but then I suppose I'd take lack of mobility over arthritis :/ I suppose I am grateful I caught it before the 5 year mark since that's when arthritis really starts to develop and surgery becomes more difficult. I wonder if anybody has recovered 100% from this type of fracture?
Five years later, my scaphoid is still broken. Has anyone else experienced a non-union even after surgery? Are there any options for healing without surgery? I would appreciate hearing about all possible alternatives.
Hello I have a broken scaphoid and I did a surgery 10 months ago also I did my physiotherapy but the problem my wrist is not going 90 degrees to the back it is still very stiff. Please any advice on this
How is it doing now? I also had a scaphoid surgery a year and a half ago, and with long rehabilitation I managed to bring back mobility, but still not as much as healthy hand. I can almost make 90 degrees strech but it hurts pushing it so far, and doing push-ups is very painful. I don't have problems with other actions, but I am a goalkeeper, and hand mobility is very important to me. I don't have problems with catching the ball with both hands, but when it comes to making a save with injured hand it hurts when I stretch it to 90 degree angle... I hope we can regain mobility and not feel pain.
@@dileeppenumatsa9277 Well, I still cannot reach 90 degree angle with that hand, I stopped doing rehabilitation exercises after 2-3 months, because there was not much progress lately as in the beginning, so I am still unable to do normal push-ups or dips (I guess that will be permanent), but I can do almost everything else without feeling the pain. I can do bench press or military press normally in the gym. When I am playing football, as a goalkeeper I bandage my wrist every time and I try to avoid putting my left hand in an unpleasant position, so I didn't have some serious issues while playing as a goalkeeper, it just hurts sometimes when I make a save with an open hand, but it's not that common in a game, unlike some training sessions.

Hi Iam satya from India. My son had scaphoid bone fracture 2021 in USA , he underwent surgery with screw fixation. Pain is persisted after surgery, He came to India we have taken him to Doctor,it was non-union. Again he underwent surgery with bone graft on September 10th 2022 and he was in cast for 6 weeks. After six weeks bone is healing but X- ray shows mild Osteoporosis. How to manage Rehab with osteoporosis n what precautions we should take. Pls kindly guide me
I had fracture 2 months ago... on waist scaphoid... my bone has been recover in 8 weeks .. previously 1 doctor said.. i need surgery he will put a scroo on it .. but another doctor suggest me to do pop cast .. and now after 2 month . My scaphoid has been healed ... my age 24 .. my hand still on pop cast tomorrow im going to remove it 😊😊 dont lose hope.. all the best
I need help?, my doctor to another bone out of wrist put on the scaphoid. It healed but it broke again because of the nail was big. They want to take a bone out of my hip to put it on the scaphoid. The bone is broken in the middle they are spaced out a part. What should I do ?. There another’s way to fix it.
Herbert screw went through the scaphoid and sticking out on the other side, but not touching another bone. Does it need another surgery? or is it okay unless it is touching another bone
good video, thank you. but i disagree on the duration of the treatment and on using a long arm cast. a short arm cast for 8 to 10 weeks should do it as well and will make it easier and faster to regain the original mobility of the wrist.
I think both are the right choices. Long arm cast would be great for younger people who don’t take bone healing as seriously and will try to play around still or use the hand
Word. I've been lifting for years and busted my scaphoid bone as well as another bone in my wrist. Both healed perfectly within 8 weeks. My wrist still hurts right now though at times, which is normal. Just got to follow your body's signals and stay healthy.

I ignored this for years when i first had an accident! Last year i hit an object so hard that my wrist can feel some pain today. Especially when i bend the palm. I didn't went to the doctor believing it will heal back again! I can now push with full force using my fist only and not with the palm! Should i wait to be healed another few years and live with the pain or try surgery?
Alexutz CTN With my experience I would advise you to go right now to the doctor because I had the same experience, I waited for 3 months to heal ,I was able to push throug fist but could not with palm, Hence finally approached dr and got the treatment. Wrist is one of the most critical set up of bones in our body to which you should never place in risk. Hence the verdict is immediately reach the doctor. Thanks
Don’t do what I did and waited for five years, thinking my scaphoid wasn’t broken. Now i have to get a screw with bone graft into my wrist. I know it’s fucked now, going to look into that bone growth stimulator.
Go surgery imo. if you can. It seems chances of healing on it's own, permanently, are slim. It will continue to be a painful issue. At least that is what the dr. had told me. He said chances of successful union of that fractured scaphoid is around 15%. Where having the surgical puts you at 90% given there's adequate blood supply to the bone. An MRI will give them indication of adequate blood supply, apparently. I hope you get relief. It really does limit the quality of one's life having a fractured wrist.
