It's very fascinating to look at a realistic attempt at space combat/navigation. What it needs though is cameras around the ship that provide different angles and cover blind spots.

The space sim community deserves this game. It's a VR sim user / triple screen's wet dream. Unfortunately, the developer suffered a head injury and can no longer develop it. Hope someone else sees the potential in this game and creates the spiritual successor to this.

    -Who your talking to (tower/ground/Clearance)
    -Who you are (Tail number)
-Where you are (Your location on the map/airport/space station)
-What you want to do(take off :D)
Not sure how it would work in space but id like to think its something like that^^

8:57 - Finally, someone who uses his brains for spaceship designs. the bridge being on the outer hull&under glass, and pressurized ship interiors in combat conditions always bug me with scifi ships.
because the last things you want in space combat are your bridge taken out first, your ship spinning out of control because the air leaks out, and the heat-based high energy weapons doing even more damage because of heat conduction and/or explosive decompression.

Scott Manley Well, I would assume that there would be missiles. But otherwise yes.

    • @MrHamof
      @MrHamof 9 лет назад +1

***** Wait... You're seriously going to introduce rockets? As in dumbfire rockets? What kind of combat ranges are we talking here? Because that's pretty much worthless even in modern combat, never mind near future. Hell it was pretty much worthless for any air target smaller than a medium bomber even when we first started sticking rockets on airplanes. (Assuming you actually meant unguided rockets.)
Aside from that, that all sounds good. Looking forward to seeing more!

    • @MrHamof
      @MrHamof 9 лет назад

***** OK, it's just that I've always heard rocket be used to refer specifically to unguided rocket propelled explosives, when referring to weapons anyway.
Although thinking about it, what's this nonsense about manned turrets? I hate to be nitpicking, but won't you be fighting at ranges of several kilometers at relative velocities of several KM/S at least, and likely changing said velocity all the time? I mean I suppose I can see a laser or something being used like that, but otherwise I just don't think it would work.
The human mind simply isn't good enough to do that kind of distant targeting at that kind of speed, even with a camera to help with actually seeing the target. But I suppose if you're doing fighters then you're going with the whole "Humans are so much better than computers at everything except math" thing, presumably due to "rule of cool". And also because any kind of realistic computer would render a human pilot mostly superfluous for everything other than telling it what to do. And potentially how to go about it.

    • @MrHamof
      @MrHamof 9 лет назад +3

***** Without a computer, would anything on that ship work? Because I think that a nuclear reactor built and designed with a computer in mind probably wouldn't do very well without. I'm not saying that the pilot is unnecessary, just that most of the work on the ship should be done by the computer because it's probably better at it.
As for that kind of close range combat, I imagine it would be a bit like mounting cannons on modern fighters, it's very much a secondary weapon, but it ends up being used often enough anyway.

Great job, thank god for indie devs, making new and different games!
One comment: personally I don't know if I like the 3rd person outside view. I know it is standard in these games, but in the context of simulation, I feel it jumps you out of the experience. I mean if we're worried about lens flare from a realism pov, then outside cameras are a much more egregious anachronism.
It also robs you of the excitement of finally catching a glimpse of your ship from the small window on the space station you've docked to, or on your first EVA. Much more exciting to have to EVA to check the extent of the damage to an outside gun turret and find that it has been torn right off, rather than just switch to 3rd person view.
    Anyway just a thought.

This aspect of the game... ANY space sim game, is much needed.
The fact is that every sim gamer reaches maturity when he (or she) also enjoys the more mundane tasks involved, incorporating the operator specific checklists and tasks (with the requisite experiential knowledge) required for use of a given craft.
This IS the "Hard Sci-Fi" that true simmers get a boner for.
If this game never takes off, other sim game dev's need to still take note that THIS aspect, often missed, is what we want.

    - F-GGJG, at gasoline with information Hotel (ATIS) for rolling to the 26 (runway)
    - F-JG you are clear for rolling to the breakpoint (I don't know the exact word in english :p) of the 26 via November and recall ready

This looks great, & I really hope Micheal manages to bring this to market, as I'm very keen to try it out sometime. And speaking as somebody who flies DCS & BMS, & who enjoys the more technical aspects of those sims - things like systems management, comms, navigation & so on - I would **love** to see some of it incorporated into games like Elite Dangerous & Star Citizen. Call it "Rogue System Lite Mode", or something :P
Nothing too dramatic, and make it entirely optional so that people who just want to jump in & fly can do so, but give me a 2min start-up sequence where I have to flick a few switches, and warm up my engines & INS. Give me a profile I need to fly to scoop hydrogen from a star to avoid either bouncing off the atmosphere or burning up. When planetary landings are introduced, let me fly an aproach profile there too, down to my landing pad, something like the HUD boxes in Aliens. Give me a procedure based comms system, with traffic patterns that need to be followed before docking, especially in terms of carrier landings in SC.
Nothing complicated, nothing too punishing, nothing too difficult to learn, and certainly nothing that'll detract from the *fun* But at least enough systems management & procedures to follow to make it clear we're not flying microlights in space, but complicated & powerful spaceships.
I can't imagine the majority would be interested, so I doubt it's worth dev time for either Frontier or CIG to implement, but including some of procedural based & more technical aspects into those games would add a lot of enjoyment and immersion for me.

It certainly looks interesting. I am excited to see where they're going with this. Extracting interesting gameplay aspects around this, however, will be a challenge. Coming up with interesting ship configuration solutions to interesting problems. It take a lot of good design work to make sure that the workflow inside the cabin is properly paced. I suspect that trying to deal with, and continuously compensate for, failing systems during combat while somebody is shooting at you will be frustrating and most likely a losing proposition.
Currently, the game if you want future expansions is at a 60 USD price tag. I'm intrigued, but hesitant about the gamble. The gameplay proposition is not entirely clear to me. I can certainly fantasize about feeling like a space captain knowing the quirks of my ol' bucket of bolts, but getting the job done by not pushing her too hard and making my payments until I can upgrade the LENR and then maybe finally have that TMS looked at etc etc.

Coming from a student pilot who trains at a controlled airport, talking to towers is scary at first (for the first few lessons I was terrified and stressed talking to them) but then once you know what to expect to hear from them and some of the weird phrases, it's not hard. I'll admit, though, talking to big international airports still makes me nervous.

This kind of reminds me of the old space shuttle simulator from years and years ago - same concept in that they modeled the real shuttle cockpit as closely as they could, and every button, switch and dial did what it was supposed to (assuming the appropriate systems were enabled; otherwise the buttons and switches usually did nothing). Rogue System looks far cooler already, though.

I forces a pilot to think like a pilot and all the protocols a pilot would go through.

it somehow reminds me of Tie Fighter, and those keyboard controls i had to master in order to fly the ships :) I remember that manual with all the shortcuts, and thinking i'll never be able to use them all.

To be super-realistic, the dev should provide a procedure checklist as a printable PDF or put in some sort of in-game clipboard. The concept behind this game does seem very cool, to be sure.

Nice find. Do you know if this will work with the rift?
Also, I looked at the websites and I can't find a way to support this game. Is there a way at this time?

How much should the early access be? Also, will this game be on Steam?
BTW, I'm thinking of featuring this game on my channel as soon as I can get my hands on it, because there is a need for this type of game.

From doing some research, it sounds a lot like elite dangerous. Where you can easily just pick what you want to do, and you won't be forced into fighting or whatever (aside from a pirate or needing money).
I'm also assuming there is a possible MMO side of this that could come up.
In any case, what happens when you're out of fuel, damage too much to move or whatever? Can you call for help?
Also, can you have a player or NPC move you and/or your ship?
As far as trading goes, will the economy be dynamic? Or is it to soon to tell?
Lastly, will there be any ship to ship or ship to station hacking? If so, how realistic will it be?
(BTW, I maybe able to help you with that last one. A large part of my channel is on cyber security.)

Oh and one thing I forgot to ask. Will the paint degrade over time, being shot at, and so on? Is there a way to fix everything without fixing the paint? What happens if you don't fix it? And, how do you fix problems at stations?
(what animation will be used? Will I see everything getting fixed, or will it just magically be fixed?)

Cause it is a small ship? Or a central engine Control? Look into an old aircraft. You had for every function dozens of buttons, cause you had to do everything manually. That is inefficient and just not nessecary if you have a central control.

I feel like this a perfect game to have a copilot. Managing all of these buttons and controls in combat seems incredibly difficult and stressful. A second person to man the systems would be awesome...

You'd imagine in a future where we have spaceships like this, all of it could be automated by an AI, or at the very least, by scripts.

Was remembering what other people commented on other videos about this game, saying they would prefer an actual transparent cockpit(with filters and radiation protection of course) and me thinking structural weakness, then you said "lasers".
