ABOUT MAKING IT
In this six-episode competition, eight of the most talented makers from across the country will take on a variety of handmade projects with the hopes of impressing Amy Poehler, Nick Offerman and our expert judges. Each episode of the competition will consist of two projects that allow the makers to demonstrate their specialized talent, while sharing skilled insights and touching personal stories. First, the "faster-craft" round will be a timed challenge that will test their ability to not only work quickly but imaginatively as well. Next, the makers will move to the "master craft collection," a one-of-a-kind themed challenge in which the competitors will need to use their expertise and get inventive in order to assemble a winning craft that fits the theme of that week.

I need a podcast of Nick Offerman just talking about anything. Literally anything.
Hes on Conan needs a friend. Just the one though, or maybe two i dunno.
*Watching Nick aggressively rubbing his wood* ....you got this
Lol Amy asked him if he wanted to be alone under her breath, 😂.
I will never get enough of these 2 together
As a woodworker that’s pretty damn impressive. I mean the pine and cedar would be pretty easy. Especially the cedar for me personally I love cedar. But he’s good!
Walnut is also VERY distinct. Easy to identify if you've worked with it even a couple times. Plus one of my favorite wood smells.
The game show I never thought I needed...but I could probably spend an hour watching an expert smell things related to their field of work.
Let's just hope they don't invite Ron Jeremy
So Nick Offerman is actually Ron Swanson
They modeled a lot of Ron Swanson off of Nick Offerman's personality. He owns a wood shop and sells furniture (although I'm not sure where he sells it otherwise I would have myself a "Swanson" chair by now.) And the idea for Duke Silver was started by a conversation that the director had with Nick Offerman, about the potential of Ron Swanson being a secret jazz musician, to which he replied "I play the saxophone" and thus the legend was born.
Apparently they just took each actors traits and turned it up a notch. Same with Chris
@@the_sockdolager I thought I read once that they actually filmed the bits of Ron's shop inside nicks shop. They just added the oiled rags
@@JKSSubstandard I've heard that too. I love fun facts like that
he's like Ron Swanson but better (not a libertarian)
He said "unguents" - love this guy!
I’ve never seen this show. If it’s about Nick Offerman smelling wood I’m in.
The noise he makes after smelling is hilarious 🤣🤣
Kind of shocked they didn't do maple, back when I worked in a cabinet shop I did actually notice how freshly cut Maple had the faintest hint of syrup about it.
too easy i imagine is why they didnt do it
It absolutely does
They did this on an episode of "Home Improvement". During an episode of "Tool Time" Tim had Al smell wood to determine which one it was. Al was getting them all right and so Tim put his stinky sock on the last one and Al couldn't figure it out.
yuup
As soon as this came up as a recommended video, that's the first thing that popped in my head. "I don't know Tim, smells like some kind of fungus"
ruclips.net/video/O2K6P8DbluQ/видео.html
Al wore that same shirt
I was just thinking the same thing
This show MADE sense, so sad it was canceled. The world needs creativity, puns, and good story lines. I wish it could at least continue on Peacock
wait, it was canceled??? I loved this show!!!
Leslie Knope …..future POTUS
It got cancelled???
It had 7 great seasons, and a really good finale, which is more than what most sitcoms get.
their covid reuinion episode via zoom was a delight!
Nick Offerman is the best. He should do the same challenge but with some of the woods that Wyrmwood uses to build their dice vaults, and MGT's.
This is the crossover I need. I salute you!
I work an office job and I keep a small square of 220 and scraps of various types of wood at my desk. When I'm having a rough day and things are stressing me out, I pick up a block of walnut or cedar, give it a quick sand and sniff my troubles away.
I love wood
The victory emoting at the end absolutely killed me🤣🤣🤣
Nick Offerman doing his best impression of _Al Borland_ from *Home Improvement* 🧔
Never knew I needed this till I saw it
I need more of them
I would watch a whole series of this 😂
More of this, please and thank you. Can we cast them in a new show already??!
I have good news and bad news.
Bring this show back!
Anyone else half expecting Tim Allen to show up and put his freshly worn sock on one of the blocks to throw Nick of the sent?
"I don't think so, Tim." - Ron Swanson probably.
Hollywood needs to give him leading roles in dramas. He does such a great job!
Such a fantastic smell walking into the storage section of a woodshop. Or just after sawing. I am very partial to juniper. It has such a distinct smell. Like high quality butter mixed with a green peppercorns, a little bit of moss and that slightly soapy pine sap note. Amazing aroma.
What a great team!
1:52 - Ray Stantz moment. "Listen! ...you smell something?"
Letting him touch the wood, feel the weight, texture, hardness.... Honestly that's probably more informative than the smell.
Pine and cedar have a distinctive smell. Walnut has the faintest whisp of...well...walnuts.
A lot of woods have distinct smells. Hickory smells a little bit peppery and poplar smells a little bit like cake.
I need part 2
I could watch just this concept for about 2.85 hours.
NICK OFFERMAN HAS THE SAME VOICE AS ALF!!!!! dont go check, you will never unhear it...
This is incredible
I hope they are doing another season
What can I say, the man knows his wood 🤷♂️
this is great bro 😭😭😭😭
"Wood you smell that? " is a much better title
So funny together.
love it
Thats what she said in response to ‘it was a wet year’ was snot worthy - i nearly choked (that’s what she said) 🤐🤣
2:22 oh yeah thats the good stuff
Reminds me of one of my favorite jokes I heard as a kid. The punchline of which is: "Well that's a sh*thouse door from a tuna boat!" You can fill in the rest of the joke.
He gets to touch the wood. Flawed.
Nick Offerman… a true mans man
They should make a home improvement/woodworking show and just make a spin off of Parks and Rec since he's basically the same character lol
We need this longeeerrrr,please?
“Can you sand right there?” “That’s what she said” can someone explain how that’s funny.
Just based off geographical location and experiences I could probably smell pine, white oak, and ash. Haven't used much else in my life though
If it smells really good, like hamster bedding, it's cedar, or juniper.
Nick channeling his inner Al perfectly.
I remember this bit from Home Improvement.
"When I smell wood, it is the wood that is scared" - Ron Swanson probably.
Another couple facts about mahogany:
1. It doesn't have a strong scent, apparently.
2. It's what they should make those sticks out of that doctors stick in your mouth when they tell you to say "Ah."
And Leslie stole Michael's joke. Twice. 😉
I have a mahogany guitar. Every time I pull it out I have to smell it. It smells so good.
@@trevorhegstrom2816 what kind of guitar? I'm guessing a Martin or some other high-end acoustic with a thin satin finish?
@@mk71618 right on the money
@@trevorhegstrom2816 nice! I actually didn't learn until just a few days ago that most of the top end Les Pauls and Martins all have mahogany bodies.
A real man knows wood, and meat, and whiskey.
I always felt like mahogany smells the most out of all woods, I’m surprised he didn’t get that one.
Nah, cedar is the strongest smell
@@joshyaash I have cut so many cedar posts for decking I think I could spot it by smell just as fast.
Apparently, even Tammy 2 is more smellable than mahogany? 🤔
Less than cedar, but my guitar is mahogany, and has a great scent.
Genuine Mahogany has a very faint smell, as does African Mahogany. The mystery is how he missed the Teak. It is loaded with oils and the smell is unmistakable.
She looked like Lucy Lawless for a minute before I realized duh that’s Amy’s voice!
“My olfactory may be somewhat occluded”
Also smell my wood is a type of fighting chant he would verbalize
I remember when they did this on Tool Time.
This wood has some sort of fungus.
I would! There’s nothing like the smell of a nice wood.
Would have been very surprised if he had gotten mahogany or teak. There’s really nothing distinctive about the smell of mahogany and teak just isn’t used commonly enough by most wood workers to have left an impression.
Cedar would be the easiest. Walnut with a little sanding would be relatively easy (even easier if you go by taste). Pine isn’t so difficult except that it could be pretty easily mistaken for something like Douglas fir.
I think I'd get cedar and pine. Not sure of the others
Millenial Pine. LOL
I'm shocked by the Mahogany.
If he tasted it, probably could’ve identified it
At my great grandfather's house in Baltimore(shotgun grandpa noble) there still is a dark walnut tree in the back yard
Should have had Juniper wood... smell is awesome!!!... sure, not much of sport... but, it is awesome smell. =)
Didn't you upload this a few years ago?
This was a skit on Home Improvement back in the 90s when Tim had Al blindfolded and he had to smell the wood and guess. I wonder if any inspiration came from that?
this is just Ron and Leslie Knope
If you can't smell cedar, you've got Covid.
Smell it? He really likes to smoke it!
I’m not saying he’s not doing it, but that is an ineffective blindfold, though stylish.
can't believe they found someone who looks and sounds just like Leslie Knope
Missing a lot of tree types. Need to do another episode. I'm surprised Amy couldn't smell cedar. That one is normally quite strong.
I’m picking up notes of… cinnamon…or is it burnt acid… wait… is this fresh cut cocobolo? HAAAACKKK ACCKKKK EERRRHHHHLLLL WHEEEZEEE
Wasn't this done some 3-4 years ago?
Anyone notice they have different thicknesses? Might be a give away.
didn't they do this in a home improvement episode when al had to smell wood?
He knew it was pine before he smelled it. Weights
Wish he’d pick out my wood!
Why can't I have hair like Nick Offerman.
The name of the game is "Wood You Could You"
Isn't this like years old
Ron nose deep in some wood. Heh heh
Scent of a Woodman
I'm always surprised when NBC has a good show. Ron Swanson for president!!!!! That being said, the name of this new show should be Sniff My Wood!
@@TFT-bp8zk Quantity vs. quality - I got as far as blossom and found not one show I would watch.
@Richard OK - friends and scrubs were bad but a few out of hundreds isn't an impressive batting average.
I could smell the mahogany as well, but I dont think I would guess the teak either.
Does this mean we're getting another season?
Also, poplar smells like popcorn.
Let's play "What Wood That Be?"
Take that skill saw to it when he cant smell it. Nothin beats fresh cut.
He is the real life Al Borland
I wish his character kept this quality for The Last of US
we miss you Leslie
Should be called "Wood You or Walnut You?"
Or wait, how about "Teak No Evil, Cedar No Evil"?
I mean, he IS feeling them and can feel the weight
does anyone else get an optical illusion when looking at Nick Offerman's shirt?
My apartment smells of rich 2:28
*SMELL MY WOOD*
Reuploading the same identical video 5 years later... you guys are really still hurting for new IPs after parks and rec ended, huh?
There’s an old joke. A bar patron claims he can identify wood by smell. He gets 3 right, then the waitress rubs the 4th on her underwear. The man smells the wood and says “that’s wood from the shithouse door on a tuna boat”
I'm having Al Borland flashbacks.
ruclips.net/video/O2K6P8DbluQ/видео.html
It's uncanny...
I'm pining for Amy.😆😆😆😆
Ron Swanson would not approve of the dancing there at the end
Lmao
