Went back and forth trying out 7 strings, baritone, even a 7 string baritone guitar and couldn't get into them. First time picking up an 8 string I did a double take and figured what the heck, try it out. Absolutely love it and bought it! So much fun! Sounds so freaking good with a Nobels ODR-1 in front before hitting the amp!
The intro riff for the title track from Diamond Eyes is also really simple yet really heavy. I built an 8-string out of a kit I ordered just for shits and giggles and it's definitely more toy than tool for me at this point but I find it fun to mess around with Meshuggah and newer Deftones riffs.

They don't use 8 strings is why. I love Black Tongue and literally just played one of their riffs in my newest video haha, I've also toured with them before
I've noticed in some newer videos you have changed how you hold your pic... I only notice because you held it how I did, then I learn to hold it 'properly'. Curious if you did the same.. random I know...
I've got my 8 string in Drop F pretty much specifically because of The Acacia Strain. Not sure why but my tones seem to sound better with the low F compared to a low E.
@@dwkluka511 I basically just use a light gauge 8 string set, but tuning up with your normal strings should still be okay since Drop F is only a half step up.

entire guitar part being offset by a 16th note doesn't really hit that "for dummies" criterion

any Vola riff is pretty much perfect for 8 string beginners imo, especially Starburn, Napalm and Stone leaders falling down

EBEADGBE - just standard tuning with the low F# dropped to E
EBEADGBE :) The only string you change on an 8 string for drop E is the 8th string (from F# to E) and you're all set! Have fun with your new 8!

i feel like the acacia strain is underappreciated however they use drop tuned 7 strings usually.
They use 7s for Drop G# and such, but their F songs are on 8 strings

Acacia strain tuning up isn’t that outta the norm. All shall perish used 7 strings and tuned up to B on price of existence and awaken the dreamers

My guess is that the riffs that are tuned up were probably written on a 7 string originally
or maybe they dont want to detune a 7 all that way down

meshuggah went an octave below a# on 7s in 2002 but its not fun or practical especially without pitch shifting lol

I'm sorry to be that guy but the first part for Deftones is wrong. Not 7 but 6. Also not 10 but 9 if I remember correctly.
To me it sounded more like a pull off on 7 and 10 than a bend on 6 and 9 but I could be wrong!
