Would that setup you showed with the 3/16 blade be the one to use when cutting out 3D patterns for carvings

No this would not be the ideal method. This is great for freehand work but any time you want to follow a line or a pattern you are best to set the saw up standard. Like this - ruclips.net/video/xkHchvzInHc/видео.html
