    I will never RUclips what I do. I'm sure it makes money. Thanks but I admire you. I started with a circle saw and now have the lt 35 and am waiting for the lt 70 in Canada. Order was placed in January now October. America first I guess. God bless you and your work. Well done and teach that to your kids

      Thanks! I had a lt35 before the 70 it was a great mill. You’ll love the 70 it’s amazing. Once you get a handle on the controls and lean the computer it’s great. You can sure get a lot done quickly. That’s what I’ve heard everyone is a year or two out on mills it’s crazy

    I've heard there is a market for cedar chips. Have you thought of chipping the slabs?

    • @pattonwoodworks
      @pattonwoodworks  3 года назад +1

      Yes that is what I’m going to try. The people we sell sawdust to say they will buy the chips as well

      @meehd01 3 года назад +1

      @@pattonwoodworks I have thought about a chipper and looked for one but to pay for a big commercial one you would have to chip a lot. I just can't see it paying for itself anytime soon.

    I bundle my slabs with one metal strap in the center. Makes for an easy load to sell. Slabs can become a mess.

    • @pattonwoodworks
      @pattonwoodworks  3 года назад

      Yeah that works good we used to do that too. We just produce so many now that we just can’t sell enough of them to keep up. The cedar burns good but isn’t that great of a fire wood

    How do you keep 14' beams from twisting while they dry

    • @pattonwoodworks
      @pattonwoodworks  3 года назад +1

      With the red cedar we don’t have any problems really with it twisting. It’s a very mellow wood doesn’t really do much after milking. Not like oak or something that twists all over

    • @meehd01
      @meehd01 3 года назад +1

      We have milled several 20' and 24' beams and have never had any twist or bow.

    What kind of cedar is that? The cedar in my area does not look like that.

    • @pattonwoodworks
      @pattonwoodworks  3 года назад +1

      It’s eastern red cedar. If your cedar is more of a brown color it’s likely western cedar

    We have tried saving those slabs several times and it's just not worth the trouble. We just push them off the side of the mountain and cover them up with dirt making the workpad bigger. They are over 20' deep now on the edge.

      Yeah I feel ya, wish there was a better way to use them I hate wasting them. I’ve got a few things I’m going to be trying coming up to see how it goes
