🔔😎 Great info Daniel👍. Years ago was a machinist in a race engine shop. I never thought that I'd be captivated by watching a cam being ground. YeeeeHaaaaw!!! 😅😅😅
Good information, as a machinist myself I could tell you had that cam lined up well!!! I want to get my Magnum cam reground when I rebuild the engine soon and put a stroker crank in it.
Nice grind Daniel. That will really wake up the 5.2 or 5.9. i need to have a couple done by you. My normal regrinds for the mag are 224/230@.050 and .335/.340 lobe. As for pushrods guys can drop the headgasket from the stock Magnum to a me.gasket 1121g and in most cases keep the stock pushrod. Also a set of trickflow 16982 springs will work on these regrinds very well. Done a lot of them
I worked in manual old school machine shop for 7yrs till boss retired, i enjoyed getting to see the machine work. What makes or tells the machine to move in and out
That’s awesome. I’m glad to see you’re doing a magnum 360. I have a 1990 LA 360 that has a stock roller cam in it and I want to get it reground. I would like to change the LSA and tighten it up. I don’t know if that’s possible. I know you can get more lift and duration out of it. I just didn’t know if you could change the LSA on it. I’ll have to give y’all a call about it. Thanks
That is a really nice cam to start with. The 112lsa puts it more in line with what you are going to end up with. Edit because i commented before finishing video. Your cam cards are also reversed. The "finished" cam is 0.258/0.270 lift.
Did you show the cam cards backwards ? Couldn't read the first cam card anyways. Seeing the grinding wheel come away from the cam makes me think I know what that funny little 1 odd thou jump is I see on base circles when degreeing cams.
Brilliant Daniel! , I'm busy with a 360LA for a customer at the moment, it has a Holley 600 4160, Edelbrock dual plane, headers, 10:1 comp, Hi flow heads and a stock cam 😂 What do you suggest as a cam grind to get this engine combination to work?
Cool how to see this done. I wish my machine shop had this kind of tooling (we do a lot but not that). Just curious can you regrind a flat tappet cam into a roller cam? I never hear anyone talk about that.
hi Daniel, my name is Mariano, I always see your channel from Argentina.. I always have the same question, I hope you can answer me, when you regrind a camshaft, you have to make a master plate for the lobe? I mean you read a lobe of the cam that is in good shape in the cam doctor and then make a plate with less base circle? it would be great if you make a video about how you make master plates and index plates, I don't know if I was clear with my question anyway regards from Buenos Aires, Argentina.
I went through your videos looking for something about "spring pressure" and I didn't see anything, so I'll present my request for a video like this. If we look at the LS7 with it's titanium intake and hollow stem exhaust, Chevrolet used a beehive spring with 100#'s of seat pressure and reached 7,000 RPM + with them. On the other side of the spectrum are solid roller cams with 220#'s and up of seat pressure and I'm not aware of any OEM using solid roller cams, other then Chevrolet's 572, 720 hp crate engine. Even the new 632 uses beehive springs! With a 7000 rpm recommended limit. But here we find titanium intake and exhaust valves with 5/16 stems. Then here in the middle are beehive and dual springs for hydraulic rollers ranging from 135#'s to 175#'s +/-... So...where is the best performance without excess wear? Are titanium valves the simple answer to the higher rpm with the least amount of spring pressure question? This is about being able to do a lot of street driving with some racing too.. I watched Steve's video and though he ended up using solid roller springs, I like the idea of a solid lifter on a hydraulic roller cam and using the lower spring pressure.
Thank you, nice to see the cam grinder in action.

do you leave the sharp corner on the lobe after grind or do you soften it up anyhow. curious
@taystew we always hit them with 400 grit and then scotchbrite after, so there smooth
shine em all

No because the cam core would be wrong.
