I have a 3 1/2 year old beautiful border Collie. She's a rescue from an Amish puppy mill. We've had her over 4 months, and she's the sweetest dog I've ever had. We take 4-5 mile walks every day, and working on socializing her. She's fine with other dogs, but still pretty scared of humans. I'm enjoying your channel, and can't Wait to work with Sparkle in scent training, etc. She's SO smart and intuitive!

@@AumacsnigrandIn the U.S. you can work your dog on stock even if you don't have a farm. You might want to give it a try. I have seen thin nerve dogs gain a lot of confidence as a result of doing what their genes are screaming to do.
There are a # of networks that offer this opportunity and you will find trainers for testing and training on their sites as well as trial dates. I highly recommend going to some trials not only to get an idea what goes on but to see the different styles of stock work offered by each.
My favorite is AHBA American Herding Breed Association for all breeds. Especially like their ranch dog and large flock courses which are less stylized and more realistic.
Next is ASCA Australian Shepherd Club of America. All breeds may show in their trials and they have an extensive list of trainers and numerous trials in U.S and overseas.
Re Border Coliies there are a # of associations- except for IBCA most are regional and a bit of googling stock/ herding trials should pop them up. BC trials generally operate on a diff basis for their trial classes. Instead of Course A level 1,2 or 3 you will see classes divided by skill level of dog & handler- pro/pro both are experienced and have probably competed / titled b4; pro/novice adj is 4 either dog or handler so might be pro handler w novice dog or a novice handler w a pro dog; finally novice/ novice. The pros always show first. Don't despair if you are just starting out - hang around to watch novice/ novice - it will give you hope😊.
Finally there is the AKC my least favorite. Scared of naturally working dogs because PETA types might perceive them as being out of control (NOT!) so as a result select and reward robotic dogs directed footstep by footstep. They do offer some testing classes however wh can open the door to the herding world.
There are also some smaller speciality venues such as USCA United Schutzhund Clubs that offer trials based on the German style of large flock herding.
It's fun. You see the lightbulb come on over their head as it hits them that YES this is what I was meant to do. It can boost confidence. Hope you give it a try. Where are you located?

My dog (double coat) loved the vacuum brush. We did not shampoo very often. He got a brisk 3 mile walk Mon-Friday and a brush when needed. When coming into the house in inclement weather, we said “whipe😢feet” and he would lie down to let us clean them. His name was Buster and his ashes sit on my fireplace mantle between two Staffordshire dogs. Beloved companion.

❤ I had my Border Collie for 11 years, lost him due to a heart condition, but he never had a bath. As you said, let them dry and brush them and the dirt is all gone. I always brushed him before we went out, except for the night walk, so he had a quick brush at least 3 times a day. People always said that he looked so well taken care of and that made me happy. Thank you for sharing your life and dogs, I so enjoy following you guys and girls 😃🤗❤❤

We got a Scotch Collie from a pet store
Whisky was beautiful and used to bathing
We would take him to the salon and he would sit in front of the dryer thing he was THE BEST
He was a stunning animal and loved people to stop and agree with him
We had a border who only got bathed when he tangled with a skunk or when we went on vacation Mrs “Mulleys” bordered him He liked her also as much as mom and perhaps more than us She loved to wash him and brush out his coat His hair was so long and glossy he could have hawked shampoo No “Breck Girl” could have competed 😂

It's always a pleasure watching you playing with the pups in the lush green grass. Storm and Echo really love to jump on you. I kept watching 'where's my Kate?' She made one brief run in, but then there she was mixing it up with rowdy Storm and Echo. I've watched Kate insert herself in the play situation when she thinks her discipline is needed. Kate is so sweet and so special. I love her so much. I love it too that you let Kate join in when she wants to, that you're not forcing her to be on camera or in the mix, just letting her come and go when she wants to.

This grooming tutorial for Border Collies has been informative. Bc I lived in northern Vermont on the Canadian border, we had a lot of snow and dirty snow around the roads, this a little colder than Scotland wintertime and longer winters and no “marine affect” weather patterns. I don’t know where you live in Scotland, but Scotland is a 3/4 Island ( except on the border of England).
I mention this bc my BC who was more white with large black patches on her back and head and half her tail and she was long coated, I had to groom and wash her every Spring. I would groom her every week during Springtime and when the days were warmer, I would give her a full bath with appropriate dog shampoo and conditioner. Maybe I might have washed her another time around Fall time. I lived on a dirt road in very rural farming area, so I often walked on the dirt roads especially when we would walk to the village about a mile away from home. I had heard before how important the dog’s natural oils help protect the skin and aid in their skin staying clean. But I did brush my BC at least once a month after the shedding in Springtime reduced usually by late May, when for about 10 weeks I groomed her a few times a week. I was lucky enough to live a life of companionship for 14 1/2 years with her. I still miss her. So, I get to enjoy living with the Border Collies vicariously with Echo, Storm, Kate and their companions, Sean and Stacey!!!
Thx for all the time you take sharing your world with your working dogs, in Scotland, where my maternal ancestors came from not so very long ago! 🥰🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿❤🐕‍🦺

That is fantastic! You can really see the difference after you've used the grooming brush. Gets rid of dead skin and hair and brings the oils up. Our dogs have passed on , but I used to use the regular vacuum with a brush on our Chesapeake/Lab mix, but it wasn't especially for grooming. He loved it! One day I had the vacuum plugged in, heard it running, came around the corner and he was sitting next to it😆. It had a switch that was easy for his paw to reach. Sometimes it was hard to get floors vacuumed because he'd get in front of it and paw at it and end up being put outside😄. I would have loved a grooming vacuum like you have! The dogs look just super!

Hello, Sean! I’m in Louisiana, USA. It’s very hot here. I’ve been professionally grooming dogs for 38 years. I also belong to 2 border collies. I do agree they should not be bathed often. Mine don’t have a bad smell and it’s better for the skin to not be washed often. One thing I’d like to mention. The collars need to be removed and brush the rough really well. The collars tend to keep the dead hair on the dog and can be a perpetrator of hot spots. I use a high velocity blow drier to remove the dead hair on my pups. It works extremely well, even though they’re not wet, and they seem to enjoy it.

Please, can you tell me WHERE you get that vacuum type grooming tool
My dog service dog is a long haired Boarder Collie cross Mahogany (wolf Sable) Malamute.
I have fiber crafters, spinners & weavers ask for the hair to use in weaving & crafts.
There's so much of it a device like this would sure help keep Moki comfortable.

I have always let my dogs go swimming, preferably in fresh water. Maybe a bit of a rinse with the hose after.

We had a heeler/corgi mix and I used to brush a 5 gallon bucket full of dog hair off of her in shedding season.

I have a border aussie mix with long fur and I absolutely love it. I don't get all hairy from her although it still manages to get everywhere and I can pull at her coat and not get a ton of hair within reason. I can actually pet her with wet hands and it will remain clean. The fur also becomes loose in clumps when it's ready to come out.

You have no idea how much I needed this!! My border collie is an absolute mess right now! I'm happy - - but Tweed will not appreciate you at all, I'm afraid! LOL It's interesting what you said about Storm shedding more with her short hair; I had a heeler once, and also a long-haired border collie. The heeler shed about 3 x more! I had to laugh at them wiggling around - that is just a border collie's way. I always say to mine "You're like a FISH!!"" Tweed is a long-haired BC and I sometimes find mats behind her ears - they are hard to find and I run into them when scratching her ears. They are tight little mats of very fine fur though and must be uncomfortable for her. I usually end up taking a small pair of scissors and clipping them out carefully. Hard to do that when the fish is wiggling.

My dog's fur is just like Echo's and he loves his grooming sessions. I found when I had black labs they shed a lot more.

@@seanthesheepman5845 Our Labs shed so much in the spring that even with daily vacuuming, the rugs were coated with hair. I miss them so much (even with the shedding)!

Hi Sean! Just the video I needed 😂. My two border collies are both smooth-coats and this is first idea I’ve found on how to groom them! The shedding brush/vacuum you have-my older girl has dry skin and I can’t find any comb that works. And they both shed….! (I don’t really give them baths either!). Thanks 😊. I will now get one of those contraptions!

I've got a long coated collie GSD mix... she's yet to start shedding yet, but I understand the struggles with the long haired dogs! And mine doesn't get muddied, either LOL
