I was sitting in Chicago’s O’Hare airport awaiting a flight when this “old guy”, dressed in a complete WWII jumpsuit with his wife sat down right across from me. I ask him if he was going to a reunion. He said he had been invited by the French Government to attend the D-Day reunion. Then he told me his story, he wrote the Filthy Thirteen, advised in the filming of the Dirty Dozen, a loose off take of his book and of some of his exploits. Then he reached into his pocket and took out a business card with his name and the 101st Airborne on it. He flipped it over and autographed it followed by “the Filthy Thirteen”. I still have it
@Duolingo Owl When you're worth 100 million dollars, have great connections, have 24/7 security, killed someone with your car, I doubt bruce jenners "courage" compares to that of someone who has fought against thousands of germans, jumped through flak four times, watched close friends die and survive constant bombardments and Bastogne
I’m sure Uncle Jake would’ve been proud of her. He is as always someone who wished the best for everyone, no matter who they were. Even if he was a bit foolhardy as a young man xD
@duolingoowl1453 that's true, although there were other Americans who literally ran into burning buildings, and saved lives along with several other notable incidents I can't recall off the top of my head right now. I don't think the issue is with the mention of courage, but the pedestal that he/she was put on ahead of people who did much more noble and selfless acts. I agree that it takes courage to come out, especially as well known as Bruce Jenner. But it was obviously a political thing...
Mr Bones BBQ • you were a lucky man to have met them .I first heard of Jake mcneese and the rest of the dirty 13 or filthy 13 I'm not SURE Which of those names they called them I watched a documentary about the real dirty dozen I remember hearing on the documentary about Jake mcneese parachuted into Belgium during the battle of the bulge and landed in a cemetery.

Listening to these men speak is better than any WWII movie. I'm glad you guys recorded this and saved it for the rest of us.
