    In this video, I discuss the trade-offs made by different Bitcoin wallets when interacting on-chain, over Lightning, and over the Liquid Network.
    In a high on-chain transaction fee environment, it can be helpful to minimize interaction with the base layer, which is where wallets like Aqua can be helpful, using Liquid instead of on-chain as its "base layer."
    I also discuss the Muun Wallet, Wallet of Satoshi, Mutiny Wallet, Strike Wallet, and the Phoenix Wallet.

    When the time comes when most people have to regularly use LN or Liquid, either a) they’re going to be funding straight to these L2s and every month or (preference) will swap to onchain or b) will have most liquidity already on chain, and will swap to LN/Liquid a moderate amount that will suit their spending needs for however long is worth the onchain fees for them

  • @JayStrattonIII

    Love this video and the additional coverage you're giving to self-custody mobile wallets like Aqua. In terms of Zeus, I tried it for a few weeks but had multiple LN channels force close despite following recommendations to ensure that the on phone node was running persistently and had good connections to neutrino peers. I really appreciate the work their devs are doing, but imo the embedded phone node is too fragile and doesn't seem to handle brief lapses to wifi/cellular connectivity well.
    Mutiny wallet seems a little better if you use the Fedimint integration, but despite using the Voltage API, I got a force close of a channel with it as well. Phoenix wallet by contrast never had issues with force closes, but alas they ducked and ran out of the US.

    Matt: If someone has BTC on a Ledger and they are looking to sell for fiat (taking profit) is it just easier to swap within the LedgerLive app or use a L2 solution in order to keep the fees low?

    • @Bitcoin_University
      @Bitcoin_University  3 месяца назад +2

      I've never used Ledger Live so don't know what's inside. It's important to distinguish between sending transactions and the associated transaction fees on-chain or on Lightning vs. fees and commissions that are levied when selling for fiat. Those are two separate issues

  • @seekererebus255
    @seekererebus255 3 месяца назад +1

    Very likely that the long term future of the network is a few single custodians, a number of Liquid-style sidechains and several federations using Boltz and Boltz-like swaps for users to interact between the networks and also the LN network itself on mainnet, and almost 100% of on-chain mainnet activity will be hard-swaps between these service providers. The only ways this doesn't happen is if Bitcoin fails or a hard-fork occurs that increases the on-chain footprint drastically. How do so many bitcoin users not understand this?

    • @mbrown5494
      @mbrown5494 3 месяца назад

      Perhaps because at this time, most people collecting/trading BTC aren't as concerned (yet) about actual, real world implementation (buying goods and services).

    • @chingron
      @chingron 3 месяца назад

      I suspect that over time a much more elegant solution will be devised and implemented with a hard fork. Even something as simple as allowing multiple transactions to be bundled together. For example, there could be “hub” addresses where you send your transaction to along with a destination address. This hub would basically bundle multiple transactions into one.
      This idea is rather crude. As I said… something far more elegant will come along without needing to increase the footprint.

      @@chingron I was going to comment on recognizing that BTC is still so young. Think Model T to Model A automobiles, think Pentium chips to Nivdia. Maybe not a perfect analogy, but understand the message. I'm a hodler at this point so will let the cream rise to the top as far as BTC functionality in coffee an donuts realt world transaction. My only concer is how to keep layer 2's as decentralized as possible. Waiting for more elegance.
