This week we turned two negatives into one big positive! by reusing the old floorboard we covered the ugly wallpaper and created a beautiful staircase!

The laugh break when Laura and Felix were discussing the vacuum cleaner cord was hysterical. There needs to be a compilation video of all of the silly stuff they have done (like the Capri Sun bit from last week). That would be hilarious 😅

It's a visceral experience being camera POV, I was laughing like him without even knowing the full joke yet but caught up in Laura's helpless laughter telling the story

"This should be a little bit more curved" *busts out the angle grinder*. Always love and get stressed with your on-the-fly modification of tools. I like to leave things prestine but its a good reminder that a tool is a tool and can be changed to fit whats needed!
"I think that now that I'm married, I can become super weird" LAURA this bit and the vacuum cleaner story KILLED me. Great job on the hallway progress!! That wall is killer and it's going to look so cool with that clay surrounding it.

In one of the clips, she was running the jig saw directly towards her femoral artery. But, “not my body, not my problem.” If she’s good with it, then I have no business to complain!😅

You mean the jig saw? Technically it's fine, because there is very little danger of slipping with a jig saw. The circular saw however.... 🙈
But I totally agree that it's bad practice and totally unnecessary. With so much stuff around it will take you a few minutes to make a simple structure to do it more safely. Not the best move to show that on camera either.
The hat works. 👍 And, if you're going to be working outdoors in Southern California, you'll want a hat -- so now you're set.

I love how the wood wall really shows off the staircase, and the staircase really shows off the wood wall. Don't know how you thought of it, but it is perfect.

I'm curious, why did you choose to screw the floor boards down in stead nails or even a construction adhesive?
The wood would look even better, if you paint the brown door in the white of the staircase. And it’s definitely a „yes“ for the hat! ❤

I absolutely love the staircase, and that you continued to keep the original wood through out the house. I could see how it hurt that you had to remove so much in the reconstruction.
At first I was sceptical about using the wooden floorboards on the wall, but they turned out great! I think it would've been way more work to tear down the wall and replace it with clay (which you would've needed to do if you wanted it to match the rest), and it would've just been another wall. Now it's a feature that tells a story, and it looks great!
Good hat for kayaking, driving cattle (wish I had one like that when I did that.. ), hiking, and anything outside! Keep it!

That curve on the wall is stunning!! So Beautiful.
One thing I think would really tie the stairs and new wall together is running a router with a bit that matches one of the profiles of the stairs down the edge of the new wood wall. Sort of a fluid transition from old to new with the new saying "I see you but I'm different"

I’m renovating a house from 1900. Have followed your channel when you started the project. Today, my favorite video of all for a few reasons. First, for repurposing the floor backwards. I’m removing the trim throughout the house. Flipping the base boards using the backs as front. Due to the condition on front. Saving pieces for new places since I’m not returning the window trim.
Second, your no frills way of installing. Compared to the detail of other projects with extra care and thought. This is a simple manageable beautiful outcome.
Sawing without a table. Priceless.
The thing that made me burst out laughing it’s so relatable, grinding off the edge of the square to help trace the step edge. I’m here amening 😂
I have a staircase that’s requiring a similar decision though not as curved or high up. I’ve toiled with ideas.

That wall looks great. I might have planed down the boards to be more flush, but it's still amazing and accents the curve which is so amazing. Beautiful. As for the new hat. I'm glad to see the knit cap go. Not many people can pull off that hat without a full rangers uniform with it, but it fits you wonderfully! Not taking yourself too seriously, and if you love, DO IT!

years ago my daughter said something similar, "Now that I am a grad student I can be as weird as i want ". wear the hat, not only is it practical- sun and rain coverage, it looks good on you. Wear it with joy!

I like the hat, looks good! My only thought is practical: hats with brims always get in my way if I am trying to do any sort of manual labor, so the beanie makes more sense in your everyday use. It's a great hiking hat though! (Or just fashion!)

That hat's not weird, it's cool. Another advantage is that if you ever need glasses, the brim keeps the rain off.

I did the same thing with my staircase, and barnwood!!! My house is from the 1860's, and is the last standing stone structure in my neighborhood!
Might be a cool idea for when this is renting... put liitle QR codes that link to the build video in the areas that got lots of stuff done to it - so people who are renting can learn about what went into that section of the house.

We loved the giggle fit. Hat one side up or both so the brim is front to back. But that's how I wear mine and I love it when I do.
Liked the wall, but didn’t like how protruded. I would have taken the old wall away and had the new wall flush with the stairs.
But that would have looked nice, and would be more difficult to do. I started watching this channel because I thought she was creative and skillful. Now (since around when this "house" business started) I just watch it as a comedy, to see how many silly mistakes and errors she makes.

That hat will be great for your fair skin in California. But I think you should wear a different hat each episode so we can compare and decide which style of hat fits you most. Who knows maybe a cowboy hat is better or maybe you're the raspberry beret type, or a maybe a Tam from Scotland. Or a viking horn hat. Let's see more choices. Lol
