Firefighter Breaks Car Window to Access Blocked Fire Hydrant

- A New York City firefighter broke a car's windows to access a blocked fire hydrant. He then threaded the firehose through the car and attached it to the hydrant. They were fighting a major four-alarm blaze in the Bronx that destroyed multiple businesses. As for the owner of the car, reports say he's racked up 33 fire hydrant violations in the last two years. The violations totaled more than $9,000.

So the lesson to be learned is simple - don't want your windows smashed out, don't park anywhere near a hydrant.
This isn't rocket science.
Also those hoses need to run in as straight a line as possible to get maximum flow. The more kinks and turns the hose has the worse the water pressure would be. So while it could be "snaked" around the car it would slow the water down.
You can try it with a garden hose, add a bunch of kinks and loops to a garden hose and the pressure will be much lower.

His car wasn't blocking the fire hydrant.
As a career firefighter with more than 20 years service, I have a rather strong opinion on this. This was 100% unnecessary and nothing more than a big show of power. Yeah, it looked cool in the movie "Backdraft", but not cool in reality. I have a huge issue with blocking hydrants, but that connection could have been made over or around the car. This was simply "I'm a bad-ass" theatrics, that makes the firefighters look as bad as the person who blocked the hydrant.
We watched Backdraft recently and couldn't work out what they were doing that for there even. It was obvious they could just go over the car in fact it would have been quicker to do that. Didn't look cool in the slightest.
Also seems like it wasted alot of time too. Not saying the car owner is completely faultless, he is pretty close to the hydrant. But he didn't make it so inaccessible to the point that window breaking was necessary. It's hard to pin blame in this one, both parties could've easily done something to avoid this.

It took him 30 seconds for each window, so maybe a minute or so total.
it's NYC. The owner can always just steal a new car.
The guy wasted more time trying to break the windows.
Took longer to hook up the hose. Guess time wasn’t of the essence.
Exactly😂 what a goofy that firefighter is
@@westcoastmex629womp womp cry more 🤡🤡🤡
@@westcoastmex629im a firefighter hose cannot be bent because I it’s gonna have a kink and that restricts water flow and that could cause the truck not to get enough water and use more than what it’s getting causing the firefighting to be harder because of less water
It also reduces water pressure
@@AlexThomas-lp1ufI think this is also done as a warning not to do it again
Wow. I’m glad I watched this - I had no idea you had to be that far from the hydrant.
The fire marshall is a clown
I'm guessing he recognized the vehicle.

I don't get why people defending that Honda owner in this comment section, he/she was clearly violating parking laws and never learn a lesson in their life to not do it again.
Note : I summarize that most of these people don't know how the hose works to put the flame out, do some research perhaps and then you should know why i disagree with the people who take the car owner's side
Not everthing is black and white. I would never defend the car owner but I wouldn't defend the firefighter either because what he did was unnecessary. After all, we learned as children that 2 wrongs don't make a right.
Cause poor people love defending poor people

@edenassos
If you own a late model Honda in the Bronx, you're not poor.
The guy probably failed the exam to join FDNY. 😂
"Time is of the essence"... chooses the most time consuming method, putting even more people's lives in danger.
technically, they did the right thing, and every state in the United states, it is illegal to park within 15-20 feet of a fire hydrant
did he really ? how long did it take the fireman to do break both windows and then put the hose through the car vs putting the hose over the car and hooking it up immediately to get water to the fire !!! looks like he spent lots of time with his childish frustration as oppose to putting out the fire faster !!! Technically he failed the owner of the building that was burning!!! Not excusing the car owner but the fireman is not too bright when it comes to doing what he is suppose to do first.... put out a fire!!!!
@@YesItsReallyKeithit won’t work if it’s over the roof. The pressure is too high for the angle.
@@YesItsReallyKeithIt doesn’t matter. They were legally in the right and the car shouldn’t have been there. Nothing to cry and pout over.
@@jzeat1480 i doubt it but i wont argue it but behind the wheels would have worked just fine imo.
@@MoisesNoisess it's not the point if they were legally in the right... the building is on fire and getting the fire is burning larger... so taking more time to bring the water means possibly a bigger emergency with other things catching on fire!!! it's not about pouting...the driver is clearly in the wrong but the fireman is as well in the wrong imo.
"Time is of the essence" - it took him 10 times as long to do that as it would have to not do that.
The rule is 15 feet for a reason they still had to connect to the hydrant to quell the fire so yeah that guy forced them to take an extra 10mins in an emergency
@@demoneyez97 your missing the point, priority, they should prioritize their job which is to put out fire as fast as possible. not waste a lot of time breaking windows while the fire keeps blazing.
@@demoneyez97They were not forced to break the windows, they chose to.
@@demoneyez97Have you ever used a garden hose? It’s easier to lay them on top of low objects instead of cutting holes through the objects and threading the hose through 😂

Time is of the essence?? There was plenty of room in front of the car, and on top of that, he would’ve SAVED THE TIME IT TOOK TO BREAK THE WINDOWS AND THREAD THE HOSE. 😂😂😂
Car was not even blocking the hydrant😂
Was was not blocked, I work in this field. They did it for spite.
Yes, they did it for spite. They were making a point.
Say whatever you like. Then think. If that car was parked in front of your home and the hydrant. Would you say it was spite?
@@bobclavile5653you live in nyc ? You know how hard it is to find parking
Lol exactly @FreshUnlimitedMusic
Lol yea the thumbnail proved that 😂
He spent more time breaking the car's windows . It was possible to extend the firehose over the car. Where is the logic?
Haha could be.. is not that the hose is that far away 😊
It’s the length of the hose. It’s looks like it could have been close to short. I’ve done training for volunteer fire fighter training before and you make those calls pulling up. You know it may fit under the car or it may go over the car, why waist time trying alternatives, when you can definitely go through the car that shouldn’t be there.
It’s not about saving time it’s about being effective.
@@mythoceanas8874 the hose is long enough, draping the hose across the hood would have been maybe 3 feet more. that's it.
@carpediem5232 if the hose had 2 spare feet, 3 feet is a lot lol
33 prior violations. This was clearly meant as a message to the driver
Not defending the car owner, but more time spent to go through the car than just park the fire truck in a better position relative the fire hydrant. Looks more like a fire fighter on a power trip than a situation where priority to saving life and property was made.
Bogus…they wasted time breaking the window. They could have connected the hose quicker by connecting the hose over the hood of the car. Very poor judgement by the fire fighter.
In my Bay Ridge, Brooklyn neighborhood, people use hydrant spaces as their own personal parking spaces. One guy finally got his car booted and towed away, but someone else is now using the spot. Cops aren't ticketing these cars as much anymore and there's a pervasive feeling of lawlessness everywhere. I'm sure it's like this in all the NYC boroughs. I don't blame the FDNY. Don't park at a hydrant and you won't get your windows smashed!
Cops don’t give tickets call the parking authority if they keep parking their
Hope you don't vote DemocRAT...if you do, please stop complaining about crime...
Can't give tickets, it's racist
Agree 💯
Im in bayridge too and i agree, I’ve seen morons park infront of a firehouse blocking the door so the truck can come out to get a drink from store
Took longer to break the window.
