Mình rất thích những người nước ngoài lấy vợ hoặc chồng Việt Nam mà chịu khó học tiếng Việt. Chứng tỏ rất tôn trọng và yêu người vợ hoặc người chồng của mình. Bạn không những học nói tiếng Việt mà còn có ý thức dạy cho con tiếng Việt nữa, chẳng bù cho những gia đình Việt Nam sống ở nước ngoài mà con cái lại không nói được tiếng Việt, thật tiếc. Thật thú vị khi nghe bạn nói tiếng Việt. Tôi là người Việt. Tôi có một đứa cháu trai lấy vợ người Thái Lan. Cô cháu dâu ấy cũng biết nói tiếng Việt và thường nói chuyện với con của mình bằng tiếng Việt. Trong khi đó chồng của cô ấy vốn là người gốc Việt lại rất ngại nói tiếng Việt. Thậm chí số lượng từ có thể dùng của chồng còn kém cả vợ. Chẳng ai biết cô ấy đã tự học tiếng Việt bằng cách nào. Những "cô dâu Việt" như bạn và cô cháu tôi rất đáng quý, vì họ giúp cho con cái của họ không quên đi phần nguồn gốc Việt của mình. Thank you very much!

Your husband is so lucky that u interested in his couture and learning to speak Vietnamese . Some Vietnamese kids that lives in America won’t speak Vietnamese because they embarrassed and to see an Foreigners speaking it is so cute ! Keeps it up the more u speak the better you gets even tho u are very good already!
I think it’s so important to keep the culture alive. I know if I were half Vietnamese I would want my parents to teach me about my language and culture. It’s my duty!

It’s beautiful, I wish I could speak Vietnamese too but my husband hates his language and refuses to teach me or our children, perhaps he is embarrassed as you said. He only uses it to communicate with his parents.

I was raised in the UK 🇬🇧 but from birth to before school, I was spoken to in Vietnamese then I learnt English in school(pre school)! Now I’m fluent in both languages!

So proud of you for trying so hard to speak to Amelia in Vietnamese. Vietnamese pronunciation is pretty hard. Been with my Hubby for almost 6 years but he can't speak much Vietnamese. I wish I spoke more Vietnamese to my kids when they were young. It’s so hard now when they are 13 and 8. They can understand but they don’t speak back to me in Vietnamese.
So admire you! Keep up your good work!
If i had kids, i would send them back to Vietnam with their relatives over summer so that after some summers, they could speak the language.

There are many ways to say "I love you" in Vietnamese. From a mother to her child, it would be "Mẹ thương con"; from a male lover to his female lover: "Anh yêu em"; from her to him: "Em yêu anh"; from a grandpa to his grandchild: "Ông thương cháu." You get the idea. It's a bit challenging, but the language is more intimate, even if one is talking with a stranger. The conversation makes people feel like a relationship has already been established, even though they just meet at that moment.
Vietnamese is pretty difficult to learn , i am a half - caste between Japanese and Vietnamese . My mom is Japanese and i was born in Japan as well but my father is from Vietnam . I lived the most of my childhood time in Japan till I am grown up now . I am still trying my best to learn Vietnamese as rapidly as possible , like you , and my process have been lasting at least one year and a half, i have to consider that Vietnamese is very difficult to learn , but it doesn't mean that it is impossible for you to conquer it , let try your best 💪💪

So proud of you Audrey. My children are older than you snd Huy. They spoke Vietnamese very well until they started preschool and only speak English they still understand my speaking Vietnamese especially when they are in trouble. My grsnd children csn only understand not speaking nor writing. I think only way that they be fluent I Vietnamese is when they go back to live there and work there they want to snd I support that idea perhaps living in nha Trang or Da nang . I would go bsck there myself it’s my homeland .

My 2 year-old daughter is also bilingual (Vietnamese and German). We stick to the One Parent One Language approach and it works perfectly. She began to understand both languages at around 7 months and is now able to speak them without ever mixing the 2 languages while speaking. I wish you guys all the best that it will work for your family too

One suggestion, use the word thương instead of yêu. Use "Mẹ thương con" when speaking to family members. Use yêu when you talk to your partner/bf/etc.

Audrey, your Vietnamese is so cute! You have a broad vocabulary and understanding of grammar and spelling of the words. The Northern accent is also dễ thương quá! However, try to pronounce accent marks exactly the way they’re written because they can totally change the definition of each word! I hope someday I will be blessed with an American daughter in law like you who can and is willing to learn Vietnamese so that she can raise my grandchildren embracing both cultures. U speak with a northern dialect & some words u use i dont really use since im from the south, so its great to learn to words to improve my Vietnamese while watchinf ur vids
Yes it’s interesting for me to learn the different words depending on the region… yesterday I learned dưa leo vs dưa chuột ! The first is southern and the second is northern for cucumber!
Just know this channel and Im in love with the whole family already. Im learning another language- Thai and I know how hard it is to learn and to think in different language. Youre insanely cute and inspiring
