I'm going to tell you this job sucks. From getting the fuel lines off, to pulling the bolts. It is all a PIA. This is the best video out there for it. Thanks much! One thing not shown is getting the new rubber seals on the fuel lines. Mine were a huge pain! My big suggestion is to lay a towel over the valley and up the sides of where you working. That way when the rubber piece flies away you can find it. Ask me how I know. I'm about to turn the key and see what I get. Wish me luck.
Thanks for the video I'm a mechanic but have this job coming up and I like to see what I'm getting into before starting perfect 👌 ps any oringed plug should be given a light tap or two with a nylon hammer flat on the face of the plug and it will undo effortlessly no chance of stripping hex out 👍
I need this kit. I will be ordering in a couple days. My father passed and left me his 2000 F250 7.3. It definitely has a small fuel leak somewhere around this housing. Hopefully this kit will fix the issue. I noticed fuel leaking down the valley, seems like it’s coming from under the housing, on each “side”. There is also a pool of fuel on top of the manifold back next to the firewall. I see it.
Wow, great price on the gasket kit! The local Ford garage wanted about $80 for a fuel bowl gasket kit. My drain was leaking and I ended up buying just the drain gaskets from Advance Auto for the same price I could've purchased this gasket kit. Wish I would've seen this sooner!
My valley on my 99 7.3 keeps getting a small diesel fuel build up. I have pretty well inspected all the lines and they look good. I'm thinking there is a good chance it is the fuel bowl gaskets. I already have my set sitting in the garage and I will be doing this job next week. Thanks for the video, fingers crosses that I can stop waisting diesel. That stuff aint cheap these days!
I wouldn't recommend doing this way. Take everything off, then clean thoroughly, blow out all the chambers, then reseal everything. The way he's doing it you'll never get everything cleaned.
I have a leak in mine and let it sit for the weekend. Tried starting it Monday and it wouldn't start, thought it was the cam sensor but it turned out it was a lack of fuel.
The kit should separate the orings with a part number and diagrams to show size and locations. For 16 dollars plus shipping for 1 dollar worth of orings, they could supply separate zip lock bags and tags. Just saying. But great video. Thanks.
Your drain valve has the o-rings in the valve but my 2000 F-350 had the o-rings in the filter body, and my screws are T-15. Do I have a aftermarket filter housing?
The Alliant kit does not include that o ring, and we find that the major leak point of this bowl is actually at those two donut orings on the body of the valve.
@@thoroughbreddiesel wow. I rebuilt mine last year and used all the washers an o-rings. I have a small leak and it looks like it’s coming from the top of the valve stem. It’s hard to say for sure, but there is a little slop in the stem and if I move it up and down it looks like fuel coming out the top.
It could be coming from there. I would pull the stem apart and check that oring. The stem oring I believe is a pretty common size that you should be able to pickup.
my connector broke that connects to the heater and now the plug wont stay in. where can i get a replacement connector that i plug into the heater connector?
Hey how are ya I have a 96 f250 xlt 7.3 diesel and I just found a fuel leak coming from the left side of the starter running down the cover behind the oil pan.. I can't find where it's coming from SO can you give me a suggestion where it might be coming from....Thank ya
@@thoroughbreddiesel I took the cover off and right below the fuel supply pump right below the turbo was some diesel standing in the vally right below it not sure if it's coming from that or the 1 of the blue lines coming to it..I clean the fuel up and hasn't leaked anymore I started it up and let it run to see if I could see where it was leaking from but didn't see anymore leak out so I don't know
Anything different for fuel bowl of 1997 7.3 PSD? I have something leaking and fresh diesel smell on passenger side and I believe my bowl or a sensor is leaking near the bowl
If it is causing a lack of deliverable fuel pressure while the fuel system is “recovering” from leakdown. Other systems need to be checked though, glowplug actuation, injector health, etc.
I have a 1995 F350 club cab I have put two fuel pump on it I just replaced all the lines two the fuel pump and the fuel bowl lines and it's still not getting enough fuel to the fuel bowl the light comes on it says fuel filter and it starts to run out of fuel let off fuel peddal and let it run and goes back out give it more fuel runs out of fuel any ideal what it is

Hey I just wanted to say I really appreciated this video, you made everything easy to follow.

This happened last winter to my 02. Coldest dang day of the year outside replacing orings. Took no time at all. Thank god!

I can smell that engine bay from my living room! Haha. Good video.

Thank you sir, extremely helpful!
You are welcome!
Thank you so much for making this video. I just started leaking fuel from the back of my bowl. I'll be ordering the kit from you.
How are you? Out of curiosity what type or grease you use to coat the seals? You never showed the container... I'm just trying to learn thank you !
We used clean 1540 engine oil.
@@thoroughbreddiesel Thank you buddy for your help!
Diesel oil or motor oil is ok to use. Nothing special.

Yrs they did they also didn't replace the oring on the regulator plunger guess they only see kits to do half ass jobs
Do you know if they have a kit for a 97 F250 HD?
Give us a call 859-737-4966.
Thanks 👍🏽 very helpful
What about the o ring inside the valve level area do i need to change that
Yes we address that in this video as well.
What’s the thread size of the test ports? Trying to test fuel pressure and can’t find the right fittings
They are #4 ORB.
It's 1/8 pipe tread

I would really look closely around the fuel bowl.

Is that's a way to drain the fuel before you remove it?
Yes, just open the water drain.
How tight should the brass cap nut be (snug or bottomed out on the filter fitting)?
If you are talking about the line nuts, they have an o-ring washer so just snug them down.
The nut should be right flush with the fitting to be sure it is sealed correctly. You should not see any gaps between the fitting and the line nut.

Could be your lines to the pump, those get old and brittle
Can a leaky fuel bowl cause acceleration issues and puff of white smoke?

Any specific grease to use or is Petroleum jelly ok?
Petro jelly is fine. We keep a tub of multi purpose grease here for stuff like that.
Is it expensive for these parts

Mint
Would a leak on the fuel bowl cause a crank but no start?
Faulty fuel heater would for sure. And if the bowl is emptying could cause a crank no start as well.
