I honestly didn’t realize how many words can be pronounced differently.

I didnt even know some of the words -
Technically speaking there is only one correct way to pronounce a word. Languages have rules and those rules have set results.
However most people aren't English experts so how well people follow those rules tend to vary heavily. Add in that people from other countries bring in their accents which affects it as well and you can get all types of results.
That being said as long as you are close enough it doesn't sound like a completely different word I don't think it really matter.

My Friend is from Reno and he pronounces the State Neh-va-dah different from the Sierra Neh-vah-dah mountains

(it surprises me how people from other states say it wrong sometimes but, i feel slightly special because i have know how to pronounce while others might mispronounce it, its like only people from Nevada know how to say it)

I agree with Curt though, I grew up calling it pop. People always tell me my opinion doesn’t matter because I don’t drink it anyways. Also they’re calling it water fountains and bubblers, I’m here calling it a drinking fountain

As someone with an audio processing disorder and struggle with verbal sounds, this was a confusing episode
I was told the pronunciation of caramel depends on how it was made. Its said as "car-e-mel" when it's made without milk and said "car-mel" when made with milk
The Icelandic word for soda is gos which also means eruption. When we name new foreign objects we name it by what it does or what we do with it.
I've lived in 3 midwestern states and "Bubbler" is not a midwestern thing. I think it's more of a Wisconsin thing (and even just a certain part of WI). Kind of like "Duck Duck Grey Duck" is just a Minnesotan thing (and I will argue it's a better than "Duck Duck Goose").
It doesn't even make sense. They don't make bubbles unless air is trapped in them. THey produce water ... and shoot it out like a fountain.
Now I've also heard "Drinking Fountain" which is also fine although I think it's better to specify water is what's comming out of it. If something besides water is comming out then say that instead.

My thought has always been that there's already a word in the English language spelled similar to GIF-
Gift. Also spelled "G I F", and that's pronounced with a hard "G", like graphic, so I've always thought that Gif was pronounced the same, just gift without a t at the end.

Hi someone from the Midwest, in my state (Iowa) We have a town called Nevada and it's pronounced as (this is the official pronunciation I believe) is Nev-ADD-a. Might be different for everyone else in the Midwest, but that's what I thought of

For rock paper scissors my siblings and I would do it two ways: "rock, paper, scissors, SHOOT!" but when we are tied we say it faster by saying "rock, papers, shoot!" idk why we do that

I work in a kitchen and I have a few teenage coworkers. One day a male coworker asked me how I say the word, Salmon and I said it. Then he asked another coworker and they said it the other way.
