yes I know its not a real pandeiro, which is why I said it was an "americanized version" and what I said at 12:20. Anyways, I am in no way trying to insult the people and cultures that use pandeiros!
if you put a single-ply head on, and tune it kind of high tension, it'll sound more like what you were thinking when you started building it. i like the low pitch and kind of "tom" tone of it as it is now, but if you were wanting to get a sharper pang almost like an accessory snare tone out of it, that's how.
Amazing drum groove, David. And your set sounds super funky and perfect for sampling. I love how the jingles of the pandeiro mix with that particular ride cymbal. And the o-jing/floor tom is awesome for accents with that groove too. SERIOUSLY.
3 ads in a 13 minute video that ive watched a billion times? At least is actual quality content that I enjoy instead of those 10+min reaction videos. Keep up the good work my man!
Edit: I’ve had tension rods do that after powder coating the rims. I had warped the rim a bit. But I do see replacing the lugs worked perfectly. I only wish I had the wood work tools you have! I miss working with my old buddy who made cabinets as we had some great ideas to make a kit but only got the bass drum done due to materials as he used oak. So I’m left with a 22x18 oak bass drum. It sounds great but I certainly wish I had at least the toms to finish it. Oak sounds so amazing
Pandeiro jingles are usually chunkier than tambourine jingles. They're like two spoon halves with a metal bit in between. It's cool that you found a decent use for the rest of that shell.
I would definitely use it! Id prob use it as a rack tom and have it as well as a floor tom on a compact kit, especially if i'm playing funk or latin. I would love to play that
Thing is pretty sweet Dave. I'd rig it up to be played with a pedal that way your hands are free to do whatever and you can use you left foot (or right for you lefties) to use it as a cool accent drum.
First off i love your channel, I haven't seen every video but if you haven't done them already it would be cool to see You make a metal snare with the jingles in the shell, Or a snare out of a deep kitchen pot, Or a homemade practice pad, Or a way to attach jingles in/outside a bassdrum so they jingle with the kicks, Or a homemade "jingle wedge" rim attachment, Or some sweet new hardware/stand hacks/tips, Or some hihats with rivets, Or a DIY stand alone/attachable aux table. Thank you man, keep posting videos love the content that you provide!
Bass drum beater with jingles is an option. Also, a jingle stick out of drumsticks? A drumhead with pre-installed jingles? Custom BFSD-like ideas? And, king of all instruments, THE JINGLE COWBELL :D Great video, thanks for that and best of luck!
pandeiros are used here in brazil to play samba, its held by one hand and played with the other, is (way more) higher pitched and is more used as solo percussion, having a lot of diferent beats. the one you made is really cool, but keep in mind that its very diferent than tha ones used here
I Love that first groove! It's imperative that the Pandeiro hangs kinda loose as if you'd hold it with a hand to get the jingles responding well. Toca had a jingle snare some years ago suspended with rubber bushings or smth. So it needs to be moving a bit.
Try putting jungles in the shell of a snare drum. That or make a device you can attach to your tension rods or hoop that includes jingles. Just an idea. Like a big tambourine attachment.
I agree that drums like these are probably for hand playing. Like the Sonor jungle snare. But maybe playing them with those mallet stick hybrids so the mallet side activates the jingles would work better and then playing with the stick tip side would sound like a more traditional snare.
hi men, i just wanted to tell you smething that's actualy realy funny. well, as you noticed my english its like shit, that's cause im from chile. well, the thing its that you have made some of the ideas that i've been thought here. now, its weird cause i thought it and at the next day or week you do it jajaja and it awesome cause you do it just like i thought it. first was the plastic chig ring, and now this pandeiro with a tom. well i love your channel men, it makes me feel that im not the only crazy one dude that do all kind of stuff with his drumset jajajajaja im a drumer to, i love to make some weird stuff with the drum set. you've been helping me a lot of times with your stuff men. keep doing it. you win my like as always jajajajajajaa NICE BRO!
Hi David. i Love your Channel. could you make a vídeo on how to convert a pedal for a cocktail kit? and also make a cocktail kit that the snare and the Tom fits inside of the 16 floor tom. a cocktail kit that you could Play being seated. greetings from Spain
Despite the fact that this has nothing to do with this video. I have to say that you inspired me to refurbish and stain one of my bass drums. It looks fucking beautiful! It bought it for 80 bucks years ago,and despite being made of cheaper wood, I always loved it's attack and minimal resonance. But thanks for inspiring me to take action and work on the drum projects I always procrastinate on. I love DIY projects and I want to do so much more with all my spare drum stuff.
I bought a Stanton Moore Pandeiro and wasn't crazy about it. It was super quiet and felt fragile. Not what I was expecting especially since some LP demos show it being used as a micro kick drum. It does not sound good for that use. But this thing sounds better and looks like it can take a beating. Make a jingle stick with your extra jingles.
Do you make all your grooves when you play with music? This was a fun build!! I look forward to your builds/resto's as much as you demo the drums. Tight drummin man!!! WOO!
When you try again, you could just glue some wood blocks on the inside of the shell above and below the slots for the jingles. You can even pre-drill those for the jingle rods, or more to the point, cut a narrow dado into each one before even glueing them. Easiest way, just cut a shallow dado into a thin board with your table saw, then you can slice that board up into a dozen support blocks in half a minute. Since I am not a drummer, I have no idea what that would do to the sound though but hey.
great video man!. the groove you opened up with on the kit sounds killer to . head my head bobbing to that. great job on the pandeiro , i love the sound
my suggestions for the jingles: Build tambourines from scratch, one with a head and one without. Cymbal with jingles. im thinking two jingles hanging from a rivet might be a cool sound.
Mas ficou show 👏👏
rdavidr, can you do a video on your boards settings for recording drums. or like tips and tricks to recording really good bass sounding drums! Thanks! Love the vids!
it sounds way more like an octoban mixed with roto tom tuned waaaay low than a pandero tbh. Usually the hoop is different on a pandero cause U want to hit the edge of the drum with the mid part of your palm and the fingers in the middle when u try to activate the jingles. I think if u put something between the jingles it could perhaps make them more noticeable. I'm brazilian, and when I think of a pandero the jingles are a big part of that sound. Very interesting project and great results =D gonan chop up my old drum set
Would be interesting to stick a short, light spring on either side of each stack of jingles, enough spring rate to keep them 'floating' in the middle of the slot, but not so much spring rate that they're just smashed together unable to move(cut down springs from cheap lugs?) - I bet you could get more energy into them/movement out of them
Cool drum. i am seeing a lot of jingles in snare drums recently. you should try that in a 10" for a smaller travel kit. Dixon has one but i cant remember if it has a bottom head with snares or just the jingles.
Looks like you're in the middle of building a stave snare? Top left on the shelf at 12:43. I just finished my first one, made from walnut with maple accent stripes. It looks like yours is coming along nicely!
I think I'd use it, I've been playing some psych type stuff lately and could add some texture with it. You should make sticks that have jingles built im
An Idea: A lot of really funky music has handclaps that engages the listener. David - I have a project idea and you could even use some jingles with it. I sent you a Facebook message. This thing sounds great. I'm not sure what a traditional Pandeiro should sound like, but yours sounds just like all the Stanton Moore recordings I've heard. Take care.
Always inspiring to watch your videos, thanks. I play a bit of pandeiro and if you ever make a hand held one, I’m definitely interested in checking it out. I did a brief video on Brazilian samba and the Pata FlaFla. Thanks again, nice grooves too!
Oh Hell Yea!! Hey Dave, absolutely dig these penny pinching tips and tricks, big fan of your channel. I am looking for a 14 inch shell that is 14" or 16" deep, I am trying to build my own 14" floor tom for cheap. Do you have such an animal? Thanks for a great channel with excellent content.

rdavidr 100k and u shave...!!?
rdavidr в следующий раз делайте аккуратнее , слишком много недостатков
Put jingles on a cowbell, then you could play jingle bells.
proudpentecostal man! That’s na idea!
Greatest present for the Santa!!
Please, do it!
I absolutely hate Christmas music. However, more cowbell may change my opinion.
Me - " Hey david what can you make out of wood?"
rdavidr - "Yes"
blonde freak "Hey Dave I need some custom percu---"
"Say no more"
blonde freak can we do more kazoo???
k
Rick Sanchez Hey how's your car engine
Yo that snare sounds like gold and the drum sounds awesome aswell
That was a really funky groove!!! You rock dude, you gotta be one of my favorite modern drummers. That whole set up is the shisnit!!!
That thing sounds fantastic! So massive and beefy yet so subtle and pretty. Awesome job and awesome grooves!
Instead of putting jingles on things, put things on jingles.
jingleception.
I never thought a cheap and shallow shell without a reso head would sound so good. Great job, man!
try to drill some holes in a cymbal and put some jingles directly on it💪
yeah jingle on cymbals
yeahyeah! zildjian made those remix hihats years ago that had jingles attached. i'd love to see this.
anika nilles' synergy features one cymbal with jingles, it would cool to see david make one
i would like to see jingles under the top hat.
ManelWoodcutter Song this is exactly where i got this idea from :D
can you make a pandeiro snare?
14 min video = many hours. Thanks for the work. Saves the rest of us a lot of time.
3 ads in a 13 minute video that ive watched a billion times? At least is actual quality content that I enjoy instead of those 10+min reaction videos. Keep up the good work my man!

Pandeiro jingles are usually chunkier than tambourine jingles. They're like two spoon halves with a metal bit in between.
It's cool that you found a decent use for the rest of that shell.
84 jingles left = jingle beard
It’s so satisfying to watch you work and create. Great filming and editing. I’ve seen all your vids 😊
Damn this sounds amazing, you hear the jingles over everything, and that thud is just thunderous
I think that is by far the best groove you've ever done on this channel
First off i love your channel, I haven't seen every video but if you haven't done them already it would be cool to see You make a metal snare with the jingles in the shell,
Or a snare out of a deep kitchen pot,
Or a homemade practice pad,
Or a way to attach jingles in/outside a bassdrum so they jingle with the kicks,
Or a homemade "jingle wedge" rim attachment,
Or some sweet new hardware/stand hacks/tips,
Or some hihats with rivets,
Or a DIY stand alone/attachable aux table. Thank you man, keep posting videos love the content that you provide!

Talking about contact paper, thanks to your pizza bass drum video, 2 months ago I wrapped my whole drumset with contact paper and it looks gorgeous

try making an HV drum. basically deep drum with square holes. they work beautifully for marching drums and probably sound great for drum set.
jingles on a cowbell
Yes please!
Logan Schlick I'm interested
Dude, them grooves today were fine as, they were some sick beats! The drum sounded great but i really loved the beats today, more than usual :D
Try putting jungles in the shell of a snare drum. That or make a device you can attach to your tension rods or hoop that includes jingles. Just an idea. Like a big tambourine attachment.
Wow! This drum sounds way better than a pandero. I want one so bad!! Your a genius. Thanks for the ideas :)
I came for the build but stayed for the playing. Sick beats!
I agree that drums like these are probably for hand playing. Like the Sonor jungle snare. But maybe playing them with those mallet stick hybrids so the mallet side activates the jingles would work better and then playing with the stick tip side would sound like a more traditional snare.

me alegra saber que hay mas gente en chile que ve este canal y se inspira con las cosas de David c':
buena broder! saludos desde antofa hermano! xD
Paulo Jara wena cabros jsjsk, yo igual son batero y sigo a david saludos de la serena jajsk
VIVA CHILE MIERDA
Also I bought a hoodie from you just because you're the only drummer on youtube I look forward to seeing new videos from!
That thing got some bass. Sounds dope mic'd up. Snare sounds great too!
Why dont you mold them together and make a weird symbal? Or you could make a stack?
You should make a little bass drum where the snare should be, and a big snare for where the bass should be
Hi David. i Love your Channel. could you make a vídeo on how to convert a pedal for a cocktail kit? and also make a cocktail kit that the snare and the Tom fits inside of the 16 floor tom. a cocktail kit that you could Play being seated. greetings from Spain
I really love how that drum sounds! You should make the most obnoxious tambourine ever.
Despite the fact that this has nothing to do with this video. I have to say that you inspired me to refurbish and stain one of my bass drums. It looks fucking beautiful! make a practice 4-piece kit with shallow drums, like the suitcase kit, but with two heads on one side, hence the "practice". that would be pretty cool
Got a ragdoll drum vibe from your playing man, good stuff.
Cool CHAN. I like it. Thanks man,,Dean.. drummer of about 30yrs classic rock, and all of it.
Here's an idea!!! Go to goodwill.
Get a cheap, but fly show.
Drills holes in the sole.
Attach jingles
Make a "Shingle"!!!!!
I bought a Stanton Moore Pandeiro and wasn't crazy about it. It was super quiet and felt fragile. Not what I was expecting especially since some LP demos show it being used as a micro kick drum. No dislikes! Just shows how awesome this channel is!!
Really high quality edit. Loving the work rdavidr always top notch.
That thing actually sounds pretty damn good. Pinstripe makes it real thuddy.
honestly that thing sounds awesome. i'd use it all the time.
Very nice dave, really enjoyed this one. How about something for the ride. Like a cross between sizzle and jingles
Do you make all your grooves when you play with music?
This was a fun build!! I look forward to your builds/resto's as much as you demo the drums. Tight drummin man!!! WOO!

Since I am not a drummer, I have no idea what that would do to the sound though but hey.
How you managed to make a piece of wood that was never meant to be anything other than scrap, sound good as a drum, is beyond me.
9:24 is the FILTHIEST groove you've use for your demos. Holy shit man, nice work
great video man!. the groove you opened up with on the kit sounds killer to . head my head bobbing to that. great job on the pandeiro , i love the sound
my suggestions for the jingles: Build tambourines from scratch, one with a head and one without.
Cymbal with jingles. im thinking two jingles hanging from a rivet might be a cool sound.
I've never heard Pandiero. Here in Galicia it's called Pandeiro.
It's usually used for percusion in muiñeira and other folk music.
Sounds great! So rad. Great playing too-
That was so cool man! try crafting the jungle snare by sonor!!! Im from Argentina!
Nacho Lahuerta
Location importance?
youre amazing David, hugs from Brasil
mas a gente tem que concordar que isso não é um pandeiro, apesar de ter ficado show de bola hfudoausdf

sorry, i don't speak taco
A Pandeiro is actually a tambourine. Back when tambourines had heads. Stanton made a version that can be played with a stick.
that sounds sick in the groove! great work
I don't see that you have drum tuning videos, except snare reso head, but you have awesome drum tones!
Loving the sound of that Acro.
pretty damn good isolation on that mic!
rdavidr, can you do a video on your boards settings for recording drums. or like tips and tricks to recording really good bass sounding drums! Thanks! Love the vids!
You do great work on the cheap... recycled sounds! Thanks for sharing, again.
it sounds way more like an octoban mixed with roto tom tuned waaaay low than a pandero tbh. Very interesting project and great results =D gonan chop up my old drum set
"ridiculous" is an adjective lol...love you David :D
Check out the Dream cymbals crop circle and see if you can make a DIY crop circle! That would be a good use of those jingles!
Great video man! Pandeiro jingles are much bigger and dirtier than those tambourine ones. You could try to switch them out for a fatter sound!
That pandero sounds heavy. I would use it. Also, there's probably a cymbal in need of some jingles!
Can you make some diy Octobans
I've always wanted to build some Octos with PVC but I can't find either the motivation or required parts locally.
Takafumi Arisaw same
will faucher now that is something I would like to David make that would be awesome with jingles
Would be interesting to stick a short, light spring on either side of each stack of jingles, enough spring rate to keep them 'floating' in the middle of the slot, but not so much spring rate that they're just smashed together unable to move(cut down springs from cheap lugs?) - I bet you could get more energy into them/movement out of them
i bump your beats at work, big time.
your knowledge of instruments and tools is amazing. I would love to hang out for a weekend :)
Sick groove at the end!
Cool drum. i am seeing a lot of jingles in snare drums recently. you should try that in a 10" for a smaller travel kit. Dixon has one but i cant remember if it has a bottom head with snares or just the jingles.
can you make a cajon??
hahaha!! thats the coolest little drum ever!! i need one now!
The Pandeiro maybe fit with Drum n' Bass songs, sounds beatifull! :D
it sounded nice!
Looks like you're in the middle of building a stave snare? Top left on the shelf at 12:43. I just finished my first one, made from walnut with maple accent stripes. It looks like yours is coming along nicely!
I love round over bearing edges. That's what I did on the stave drum I made. 3/8 round over.
I think I'd use it, I've been playing some psych type stuff lately and could add some texture with it. You should make sticks that have jingles built im
An Idea: A lot of really funky music has handclaps that engages the listener. Could you think of a way to make a percussion instrument that sort of imitates a human clap but louder (preferably producing multiple, flammed claps). Maybe a improved slapstick on steroids? If it'd even be possible to play faster syncopated rhythms (flamenco?), well that would be totally unique.
use the jingles on a ride like a cymbal rattler. you could attach them with some kind of thread to make a chain of jingles.
Those were some fine grooves!
Dude that sounds exactly like what Im looking for. I would buy that from you, seriously.
I realize this is an old (ancient in YT years) video ... but I'd put a row of jingles at the very bottom of the drum ... fastened with a screw and large-ish fender washer.
That way when you strike the drum they would strike against the washer and the bouncing metal on metal would perhaps yield a more pronounced jingle sound.
You've probably got better things to do at this point, but really it would only be about a half an hour job.
Thought it sounded pretty good. I loved your grooves I always enjoy watching you play dude. Such a cool style you have. You could always try and make some kind of kickndrum activated jingle thing. That might be interesting to see what you could come up with
David - I have a project idea and you could even use some jingles with it. I sent you a Facebook message.
This thing sounds great. I'm not sure what a traditional Pandeiro should sound like, but yours sounds just like all the Stanton Moore recordings I've heard. Take care.
This sounds fantastic Dave! Thanks for the chanel! Amazing! Cool groove!
can you try to make a practice pad with working luggs ?? so like marching bands and english orentated bands can use it properly
Try making a cymbal sizzler by tying some of the jingles along the length of a string. Place on ride cymbal.
make custom sticks with jingles in the middle between where you hold and the taper
Talon Eggert it's spelled tapper!
Great video as allways. Cool Grooves!
You should tamborinify or pandeiroize a whole drum kit. Or you can try to JOnny Rabb a set of hihats with them jingles.
