Mitch Conner When the game first came out I remember people gawking at it saying it's one of the best graphics and gameplay of the decade. Of course that was over 10 years ago so it's different now.
+Anonymous Mokona One of my viewers actually made a mod that modified the movement speed to be the same as in the multiplayer, which is even faster than the strogg movement from the singleplayer. I wanted to do a run with the mod but never got around to it. I wonder if I still have the file somewhere..
Since the German edition is missing the "stroggification cutscene" we decided to add a rule to subtract 3 minutes 40 seconds from the run time if you are using a version that has the cutscene. With the cutscene this run is 2:01:46 as the timer says and without the cutscene it is 1:58:06. We still don't subtract load times, which could be a topic of discussion later..
You mean the pussy edition? Oh ok. Is the low resolution to save time on cutscenes? Understanding time is of essence, but minecraft version of a not so bad game is a bit sad :(
how nostalgic! and it's interesting to see that average normal run usually takes 9-10 hour.. and you did way less than dat! congrats! still wondering what did you screw tho..
Nice run! This brought back some memories :,) Sad that things didn't went as well near the end tho. One question: What exactly would have happened, if you would have failed the "doggy" jump at 1:33?
SuperBurningHead Thanks! Yeah, I'll improve the ending at some point. And if you fail the dog riding then you walk. It's not a necessary trick or anything, just a fun little thing and a tad bit faster than walking.
First you have to get a computer, and then you have to have a pretty solid operating system. Some people use Windows. Other, Linux. Your choice really. After that, install what they call an "Internet Browser." This will allow your computer to talk to other computers on the WORLD WIDE WEB. Then you fucking google it like everyone else does.
+Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra I know I'm just joking. I remember playing Quake 2 a ton as a kid and haven't touched any since then so to watch this really didn't make me think of the Quake I knew
Ok i understand this game and doom 3 were made on the same engine but it looks like textures from doom 3 were used in this game or maybe the other way around
This video has dramatically lower res textures than the game should have. It's a common bug on modern pcs with this game. Look closely, even with the obvious RUclips encoding video the textures are EXTREMELY low quality. The actual Quake 4 looks much better.
Think he lowered resolutions to save time on loading screens and not issue with modern PC, as most drivers allow to play old games. It is true, game has same engine as DOOM 3, some textures are similar, but Quake 4 was more graphically advanced (dynamic lightning and etc.).
Oh that makes more sense! That saved me the trouble of asking why the textures look terrible ;D I was thinking I know I haven't played this game for a few years but I remember the textures looking much more detailed than this! ;D
why low settings? i mean i know shadows and detail shit gets in the way, but it looks so ugly :< this is a game i've only played once. it's surprising how i pretty much forgot all of it except for the stroggfication process. i liked it back then, but looking back right now it looks even more solid than i remember. well, except for the fact you're probably on a wheelchair judging from that walk speed. damn, sooooo slow. but weapons feel great and the nostalgic quake2 enemies are also great.
@@Growy-Nerd actually quake 4 graphics don't work that well on modern systems afaik. You need a to download a patch that fixes that issue or just mess with the game files.
I'm impressed that you memorized a path through that freakin level design. overly complex copy paste tech stuff is a big no for me, and the main reason I gave up on on doom 3.
The game sucks until you get 320 movement speed basically and proper strafejumping. One of the last modern engines that still feels good though. Its insane game devs listen to unlocked framerate rant of noobs who dont understand rendering, while a locked game feels so much more responsive, who cares if it only says 60fps? carmack was right
Mehdi Alfiguigui you are unfortunately wrong, frametime and input only have a correlation as pronouced as you make it out to in games that calculate viewport after the last frame as you describe, you can do it the olschool way so as you would get percieved microstutter having lets say 70fps on a 60hz display, its quite easily noticable like that, unreal engine 3 in borderlands 2 does a pretty good overall job locking the framerate to even 30fps, you still get a very responsive experience compared to smoothed 22-60, just to prove my point. i dare you to try that in doom 2016 for example. Freesync and the likes has nothing to do with how rendering and handling of input is done in any engine, thats purely a display issue and has nothing to do with what im talking about. Lets hope Tim Sweeney continues with his head in the right place
Bah, look at the difference in gaming... in Quake 2 the player moves super fast through the scenery almost flying, killing the enemies almost dancing around them like he was Jackie Chan or something. In Quake 4 the player moves like a snail through cramped corridors... I whish the game designers these days would spend more time concentrating on gameplay rather than just graphics and bullshit story
You Let the Dogs out never. Just pick something and get used to it. Fps isn't about what others use, it's about your brain and muscle memory getting used to your OWN setup to the point that you can know it in your sleep.
i use "dsf [space]" since before wasd was even a thing and it's FAR superior in spreading workload between your fingers and for having more accessible keys around your movement keys. i spent weeks with my brother back in the quake 1 era coming up with the best possible control scheme for mouse play and this is the end result. every movement key has it's on finger assigned to it, it's only crouch that has to share the pinky with the jump button (z and a respectively). it's really awkward for people who are not used to it though, and i don't think it's worth switching into for people who are used to wasd.
I just discover this run and it's amazing bro, 8 years later and is great to be able to watch someone beating it in that time, great job
Weird, I don't remember Quake 4 to be that boring.
It's not that bad
+Slippery™ Sandals™ it is when you compare it to the other quake games but hey
Quake 4 is complete horseshit...so compared to other FPS games of the era, it's above average
Mitch Conner When the game first came out I remember people gawking at it saying it's one of the best graphics and gameplay of the decade. Of course that was over 10 years ago so it's different now.
Quake 4, to me, is a mix of a bad Call of Duty and, after the Stroggfication, a subpar Doom 3. Good shooter, bad Quake.
The movement suddenly became so good after the stroggification, omg. I wonder why they didn't do that to human soldiers LOL

Yeah, I feel like the movement speed in quake 4 is a downgrade in comparison to q3.
@@DraQu I know this is really old, but do you still have the mod that modifies the movement speed? I would love to speedrun this game
Kind of feel like the odd man out here but I loved Quake 4. The machine Gun in this game is my favorite in any shooter.
Matt Wilson Same here.
Man the Quake series is all over the place. I hope they do a new reboot and take it back to the dungeons, castles, knights etc from Quake 1.
All over? Its like one awesome game and 20 future games about the strogg

since they included load times, he needed them to load as fast as possible to save time
01:42:36 Speaking about awkward elevator rides, lol
i can’t take this game seriously because i just keep imagining an army of humans strafejumping to their objective
Question, why is this being played on a TI82 calculator?
Because usually the better pc you have the dumber you are. Its like guys on hypercars for $5 mln. they cant race at all but thinking they are cool.
Anyone else think this game was a masterpiece
how nostalgic!
and it's interesting to see that average normal run usually takes 9-10 hour.. and you did way less than dat! congrats!

No matter how fast you are, you cant save the man that monster carrying at first
I remember watching a making of video of Quake 4. why the hell did they hire so many celebrities for voice acting? no wonder the game bombed.
I just now noticed he doesn't play on WASD
I was wondering if anyone else noticed as well
I FUCKING LOVE THIS GAME.
I finished in 2 days.I sea you are Player of best quake 4
I don't know which was earlier, but this game reminds me so much to Doom 3. Are they running on the same/similar engine?
Yeah.
I wonder if this game is played in multiplayer.
Reminds me of doom 3

El Gigante
1:58:06
the german version is faster skips the strog cutscene level

I want to ask the designer of doom 3 and quake 4 this , what's with the dark rooms and lack of light? And why is the marine too slow?
1/ Darkness = scary. 2/ It's not DOOM? When you become stroggified you're pretty fast.

cool

Not the most exciting speedrun but still a speedrun.
No sprint button? That movement speed is awful
They turned epic q3 into stinky shit. good job ID software
Is q4 after q2 storywise?
Yes it is, quake 4 is placed directly after quake 2
quake 4 starts by saying the makron was defeated by a lone operative, which is the final boss of quake 2
Why are the graphics so bad on your version?
