Story of Saint John the Almsgiver | Stories of Saints
Saint John the Almsgiver, also known as Saint John the Merciful, was a Patriarch of Alexandria in the 7th century. He is widely regarded as a model of Christian charity and generosity, particularly in his care for the poor and sick. Saint John is said to have given away much of his wealth to those in need, even selling church vessels and other treasures to provide for the poor. He was known for his humility, compassion, and devotion to God, and is venerated as a saint in the Eastern Orthodox Church and the Roman Catholic Church. His feast day is celebrated on November 12.
