I just met with David a few hours ago to discuss the SLAM capabilities of the R3 Pro. We're very excited about the drone side of what you offer, but interior building scanning and SLAM is the primary reason for our company considering investing in this technology. How well does your processing deal with working with data sets from populated buildings? I can't always ask my clients to clear the facility for me to do a walk through to scan. Thanks for the all the information you're putting out there for the community, Harrison. Incredible work. Truly.
First, thank you for your consideration! Great question. If you follow the tips in this video, you will be able to use the GPS Time feature in ROCK Cloud to remove any unwanted points (your clients) in the data!
@@IndianaDrones That's excellent! I've got another question for you here, regarding the 360 camera that will be on the next SLAM dock model: Is this camera always on, and/or will we be able to take individual photos that are coordinated in the point cloud? We're doing a lot of asset tracking with our services, and it would be great to tag individual assets with a photo while we are walking through for our scan.
👀awesome technology... so many possibilities thank you for sharing this update and demonstration. ROCK ON Makes sense that its best to capture this location at a time when there are no people around. Something to consider if one wanted to 3D scan an urban environment. also love the dog cameo 🐶👌🏽
Looking forward to that 360 camera. Is there any chance you could do a SLAM-only survey of a cemetery please? I’ve been mapping cemeteries for 15 years, mostly with GPS and a total station, creating 2D maps of monuments, roads, trees, fences, etc. Last year I started experimenting with static scanners, but the Z&F scanner took way too long. I then tried the Leica BLK360, but the software had issues and (just yesterday) Leica told me they couldn’t fix it. So I’m hoping Rock might be the company to fulfil my laser scanning dreams. Also being SLAM rather than static scanning will make it even better. Sadly I can’t use drones as most of the time we have lots of tree coverage to deal with. Thanks for considering… Dave
Thanks for your feedback! This would of been a great video for Halloween! However, I am not sure if there is any moral obligations that I may be breaking if I do this kind of scan as a demo. If it was a paid job it would be more approachable of a video to make.
Quick question, when you were talking about the tree and you said, "if you want to 3D model a tree, this is about as good as it gets"... does Rock Cloud allow the export of a model? and if so what file formats does it export? I only ask because a point cloud of a tree is not a model, although if Rock Cloud does create models from these point clouds I'll be ordering a Slam Kit quickly!
The addition of an RGB camera and GPS to SLAM is very exciting. Will it be possible to have multiple devices working in tandem on the same project, with data being transmitted in real-time to a central server? No doubt, having that many LASERs around would feel very Star Wars-y :)
That's an awesome idea! But, I don't think that much data would transmit properly flying through the air. This method shown here is the best way. One device and then being processed in the ROCK Cloud.
Thanks! You can easily use the ROCK Cloud's Compare and Merge Feature to move your SLAM data to the aerial data! More to come on that - exciting developments! Reach out to hello@rockrobotic.com if you wanna chat more.
Very nice presentation! I love the versatility and the detail of the work. I have a question thow… Is there a way to pre-check your scans (if there is any gap or forgotten area) or you have to wait for the results?
Thank you! Yes, you can use ROCK Desktop to upload and view your data right in the field. Visit www.rockrobotic.com/rock-desktop to learn more. And be sure to reach out to us if you have any more questions!
Any idea what would cause red flashing light on LED startup in SLAM mode? Just did a flight, no issues, went to slam mode and can’t get solid green led on startup
with no GCP and GPS receiver, how does the georeferencing work in this case? does the point cloud coordinate still in arbitrary and just locally consistent? bad english, my bad
@IndianaDrones great video, great technology. I was wondering, what is your thoughts on how well or poor would it behave and have accuracy if i were to take it into underground mine with room and pillar layout, just walk around the "chess board" of room and pillars couple of times? Thanks in advance for your reply!

@@IndianaDrones Thank you very much for your reply and dataset, much appreciated. I do wonder however, the link you sent, it sends me to dataset that is "Dense Trees with the R3 Pro". Perhaps i am looking something wrong or am mistaken, but is it possible, there was a mishap with the link you gave? Much thanks in advance!
Is there a way to automagically designate objects, such as that tree, as their own mesh? Manually if necissary. But automatic would be great when importing into Unreal, for instance. Landscape, trees, foliage, static mesh for buildings? If the user could set up the actor class that corresponds to the data ahead of time, then they wouldn't have to go through later "this is a tree, this is a tree, this is a tree, this is a tree".
@@IndianaDrones I reached out to Tech Support this morning about an upcoming Job I have that I would like to try it out with. Are you able to talk more in detail about this offline?
Doesen't Polycam app for example does this same thing essentially, example if you use even something as cheap/simple as iphone 12-14 Max Pro, combining both texture from lidar sensor and pictures for photogrammetry?

That is so awesome!! R3 PRO with RTK and RGB.
I want to see that real thing in CUE but you're not going to attend that show...
You should attend one of the R3 Pro LiDAR Workshops. Click here to learn more: www.pilotbyte.com/lidar-workshop

I’d love to get into LiDAR what is an effective cheapest way to start in it? The drone looks like the ultimate!

How does this compare to the now out-of-business Paracosm PX-80 ?
It's better!

If I purchased a SLAM today would it be upgradable for GPS and camera when it's available

Incredible :)
I agree!
Same video with the Zenmuse L2 please
The L2 does not offer SLAM capabilities!
Awsome 😮

Does the R3Pro work for mobile mapping yet?
Yes! We're working on a new video right now to give an overview of this feature.

Get a VLX frame…or better get barr…
