Would love to see these pix in a photo album online so that they could be viewed individually and enjoyed for more than a few seconds at a time....wonderful...made me really homesick
This is my hometown. I remember COA -when it was on the river, and many other houses and department stores. Amazing what we can do with technology - great to look back. Thanks
No Elizabeth City Ice Plant, Elizabeth City State University, Carolina Theatre, Hosiery Mill, Coca-Cola Plant, Cory’s gift shop, Gibson’s or Sleep Harney School, old Elizabeth City swimming pool, Dollar Store’s, S&R’s grocery stores, A&P, old fair grounds by old Moose Lodge to name a few.
The Sinclair gas station later was a Phillips 66 and owned by a 2nd cousin,Ebert Bailey.I still recognize so many pics there. Some family lived next door to the Nellie Cropsy house too.Wonder where that horse track was?At the 7:15,the Perry Apts.My folks lived there for a short time after selling the house on the river in Shiloh, its gone now. They bought a house behind the church on N.Church St.My grandma Hattie Bailey worked at Cheesons in 1905.Miss Oxena too and W W's.
Many I remember. Looking for old pictures of the original Weeksville School. My grandchildren go there now and I wanted to show them the school. Can't find any online
No photos of Pastor LOUIS ALLEN MAYO, of the First Christian church. Pastor Mayo has a great legacy ! Back in 1921, he was instrumental in getting the church going.
I wonder if your great grandma knew my Grandma,Hattie Bailey ( cousin of the late Carroll Abbott that ) owned the John Deere store for a long time.My Grandma worked at Chessons at the turn of the century before moving to New Bern to marry my Grandfather.
What, no photos of the old phone company that was owned by the Blades family? Many folks don't know this, but back in the '50's we almost got a Ford assembly plant here in Elizabeth City.
My great grandfather lived by the cotton mill on Halstead Blvd....circa 1965...the mill was a busy place until the USA SOCIALIST GOVERNMENT got involved with the economy.
it would b nice & very useful if you could upload names of the street for those of us who weren't born in whatever time this was (because you didn't list that either) can have somewhat of an idea of what were looking at sincerely a "black girl" from elizabeth city
Not enough here on black history. Black churches. Black schools. These pics are nice, no doubt, but they do not paint an accurate picture of Elizabeth City's past.
To be fair, she was sharing old vintage photos of Elizabeth City. A lot of different people of all races grew up here. Including myself, sister, mother & fathers families. This is a beautiful town that we all have wonderful memories of, and she was sharing with all included. ❤
