Literally the most charming....there is no way you can hate his character, once you know how his defense mechanism driven by his insecurities sets up when he faces an adversary. But he has learnt from his past to not to give up and to always try harder and harder to stand all against those who make him feel weak.

Hate him all you want but you can't deny that he is a really well-written character in Haikyuu. He was really dedicated to volleyball. He was pressured because he knows that Kageyama will surpass him since he doesn't really have a natural talent as a setter and the fact that they can't beat Shiratorizawa was also a thing that made him even more pressured. I am actually very thankful because Iwaizumi was there for him when he was going through hard times. I really love Oikawa's sassy attitude and his hard work. I don't get why people was hating on him. I get the fact that he almost hit Kageyama but that's not even a strong reason to hate him. You haters should get where his attitude is coming from. You’re in your last year of middle school/junior high/whatever and you’re playing setter for the volleyball team. You love it so much and you’re pretty good but you’ve never been naturally good so you work hard to stay on top. Now, this little first year comes along and you can tell he’s a natural born prodigy. That’s not to say that he doesn’t work hard and train but not like you’ve had to. You work everyday. Practice all the time and this little kid comes in and dominates almost immediately. He’s just got a knack for it, a knack you’ve never known. One time, he even asks you for help on something that try so hard to be good at, serving. And you snap. You just want to be good, better, the best. You just want to come out on top. But this kid is really making things hard for you. You almost hurt him. And you’ll regret it for a long time. Thankfully, your friend talks some sense into you, and you remember that volleyball is a team sport. The better team wins. On top of this, Ushijima comes along and has destroyed your team ever chance he’s gotten. You’ve never won a full match against him. So you swear that you’ll beat Ushijima and Kageyama one day. Few Years Later Your high school team is finally facing Kageyama’s new team. But you’re injured, so you can’t play right away. You’ve been training really hard recently just to finally beat this kid. You end up losing. You’re captain of this new, great team and you’re doing your best and you still can’t beat him. But you’ll win later. You face him again in a tournament and you win! One rival down. You face Ushijima next and lose. This was one of your last chances to make it to Nationals. That’s all you’ve wanted for a long time. To make it to Nationals. That’s why you work so hard. Why you put everything you have in everything you do. But it’s still not enough. You’ve got one more shot and then it’s over. So you have to play Kageyama again. You’ve been practicing nonstop. You have to win to accomplish your goal. You have to do better. You can’t let your team down again. But you lose. This time, your last time, you can’t even make it play Ushijima, much less win against him. It’s over. You gave everything you had and it still wasn’t enough. Your best just wasn’t good enough. Even after all the work and effort you put into playing your best. It still wasn’t enough. Not only do you lose against Kageyama, but Kageyama and his team beat Shiratorizawa and Ushijima. You never really beat Ushijima or Kageyama and you never made it to Nationals. Not once. You were never good enough. Now, we’ll take a step out of his shoes. What I like about haikyuu(and other sports anime) is that it's hard to hate on the antagonists because they also show the hardships of karasuno's opponents had been through to get better, they aren't one sided. That's reason why I also don't get really mad when karasuno loses sometimes, I just feel sorry for them lol

I have just started watching Haikyuu and at ep19 but I can say that Oikawa Tooru is one of the well written characters in all animes.
I don't need a boyfriend or anyone special. I just want to hug Oikawa and tell him he's great at volleyball and I'm proud of him. I love this guy too much😭🥰
