- Filmed on November 24, 2017:I am so surprisingly impressed with this system!!!! :D Completely reminds of what the Marriott Marquis in Atlanta had before Otis modernized them 2 years ago!!!! :D High-pitched bell chime, grandpa voice, floor indicator beep, etc. These elevators are a memory to what the Marriott Marquis in Atlanta had. I hope these beauties do NOT get modernized!!! I am glad I stopped in there; it's soooo worth checkin gout! :D Installed in 1983.

Without a doubt, the Elevonics are the best ones maded by Otis. Today I got into one from 1987 in a shopping centre in Girona, Spain. It's fast between floors and stops very smoothly. For a 37-year-old elevator, it beats the Gen 2 and other elevators from other brands that I've been in by a mile. (Sorry my bad English)
What surprises me is that it has not been modernized, they are the only elevonics I know, all have been replaced by gen 2, which work a thousand times worse. However, the markers have installed LEDs, which indicates that the owners want to keep them for a while longer.

These are EXACTLY like the ones in Dallas, except the ones in Dallas are 70 floors.

Are there any elevators with this voice that haven't been modernized yet?
Sadly, from what I heard these are all done now.
There are a few buildings in New Orleans as well as a building in Little Rock and one in Ft. Lauderdale that still has this voice. They're very rare though
I am still mad to this day that they modded these. These were some of the most beautiful ones here in San Antonio. I even rode these when they were 401 but didn't film them. I still regret doing that :(
Do you know what’s the update of the Menger Hotel elevator modernization? I may probably stop there next month if I’m unable to have any other travels out of state. Do you think you would be able to check that out for me please?
@@JimLiElevators I haven't been there in over a month, but I'm assuming what was originally the black button elevator is now in service as an elevator with boring M2 buttons. I do plan going sometime this week tho just to check up on it. We're losing so many beauties in San Antonio... it's so sad to see
TX Elevators If you see any oldest guys, let them know you have a huge fascination on old elevators and that you could help save some parts. Those elevators are indeed sentimental to me as I rode them since 2011!
I will need to film this when I come to San Antonio this summer for sure.
Do you know why you didn't film any of the major old elevators when you went last time such as the Menger & Nix?
Last time I was a bit rushed and I was there over Halloween when I went. Most stuff wasn’t open. I also didn’t have the camera I have today, instead I had my iPhone 5c which was full of memory. Thankfully though I plan to take a trip this summer and will film a lot of the stuff I missed last time.

Great elevator! We installed them in what was at the time Standard Oils' HQ in downtown Cleveland! When you're riding on top that thing would move!

Somehow my mom's bank elevator serves 4 floors but the elevator is an elevonic 401
It would have been better if they have the much deeper grandpa voice. Park Place in Vancouver and 411 E WI Ave in Milwaukee used to have that voice.
Does Park Place still have it? I may be going to Vancouver sometimes next year, but not sure yet.

I am SO SAD these got modded. they still run the same but it's still nowhere near as special as these 401 beauties. And I miss the Grandpa voice :(

Hydraulic or Traction?
DEFINITELY traction.
I was just confused; all I see is “High-Speed” :)
High-rising buildings with 20-30 floors or even higher are ALWAYS traction; they never install hydraulic elevators in a high-rise building.
Right.
I’m just saying that High-Speed isn’t really a separate category from traction.
I don't even know why the Marriott Marquis completely modded their Otis Series 1s. The Series 1 fixtures were ADA Compliant and they haven't even reached 40 years old yet (I call the Vintage Age). Hopefully the Columbia Tower won't mod their Otis Series 1s for a while.
