I had first heard this song when I was a little boy. I must have been 6 or 7- this was just another song back then. It played from a cassette in a tape recorder which we called “two-in-one”. I didn’t find it melodious or wondered at the brilliance back then. But 32 years later, today, as an adult, this song beams memories of my childhood-the innocence , absence of worries, worries only of my studies and school. How much I wish now to go back to being that small boy running around in my house-a house now sold together with memories-while my parents talked important matters and kept me away from all that and this song plays again. It’s magical how sounds from an earlier time pulls you back into that precise time.

In the early 80's we the members of the two families undertook a tour of South India. Our driver would drive the matador throughout the night. His cassette player would continue to play the songs of Mukesh. In the silence of the deep dark nights on those lonely roads, the songs of Mukesh would evoke strange feelings in me. I still remember them with nostalgia.

So it’s not the fault of the current crop of singers. It’s the whole ecosystem!

But, then look how Shailendra captured it? Just how?? It does not end there, just how did Shankar Jaikishan also did it? Were They Humans? I really don't think so! They were Gods, who just visited this planet, gave us a glimpse of music which works like tonic for the heart!

This film Chori Chori, created by Raj kapoor ji, who was only 21, ( he copied the story plot from award winning Hollywood movie by Frank Sinatra, so he frankly named it Chori Chori)
released during 1956, all its songs are extremely heart touching meaningful and relevant even today ..in this duet by manna Dey and Lata ji, The taan in Lata ji voice at starting response to Manna Dey ji, ye raat bhigi bhigi wo Chand pyara pyara, then followed by aa Aaa aAa..it truly hooks audience mind and takes to the height of the moon ! Simply incredible.

SJ tune & Shailendra lyrics are so simple & melodious that you listen this song just once and it goes in to your head for all time. Shailendra is most under-estimated, under-reported and under-rated lyricist of Hindi movies. Each song penned by him is a master piece. Unfortunately Actor, Actress, Singer & Music Director get all the credit.

In fact even shankar jaikishan and op nayyar madan mohan are underrated too... Hardly young generation knows about them... They ain't famous like RD burman...RD burman was comparatively newer than them and hence still remembered but still these MDs too deserve much appreciation now.. Ull see singing reality shows paying tribute to burman by having a full episode dedicated to them but hardly any show pays tribute to the MDs...

All old songs, how many ever time s we listen it will sound brand new, that is the beauty of these songs, they also stay in our hearts forever, they create a special place for us, only for old songs, whenever I feel down, or depressed I listen to old songs it soothes me down, and puts a smile on both on my fave and heart, I think it is the same for everyone in India and the world, truly "old is gold". The only disadvantage about these songs is that they end very soon

No brother manna dey underrated singer nahi woh unhe bahut se gaane gaaye woh sab singer se senior the like Mohammad Rafi Sahab Mukesh ji Kishore Da Hemant Kumar and ETC, manna dada Ko classical music ka Samrat khana jaata hai unka classical music bahut hi pakka tha,
Aur unka classical talent baki singer se behatar tha, woh bahut jaada Riyaz karte the, male voice me Mohammad Rafi Sahab ke Baad Sabse jaada Gaana manna dada ne hi Gaaya hain. Aur kuchh gaane toh Amar hai like, aye meri Zohra Jabi, pyaar huaa ikraar huaa, kasme Wade pyaar Wafa, jiska koi nahi uska toh khuda hai yaaro, tu pyaar ka Sagar hai, yeh raat bheegi, aaja Sanam mudhur chandni, zindagi kaisi hai pahli, aye bhai Zara dekh ke chalo, Dil ka haal sune Dil wala, aao tiwst kare, mud mud ke na dekh, aur bhi Kyi gaane hai jo bahut hi aache hain hmm yeh Dosti hum nahi chhode ge, I am 22 year old and I love old song, and I love golden era singer.
