With this performance, you have not succeeded in making the great maestro roll in his grave, but for the first time in many years, as only a handful of people have done, but you did it even better, but you have brought him and is essence and spirit BACK TO LIFE! I can honestly say that he would be so proud of what you have done with his beloved masterpiece. Rachmaninoff was always open to any improvements on his pieces, just as he improved on so many others', and you have really done it here---LIFE CHANGING. Withe your colleague, you have achieved one of the greatest performances of a duo piano work EVER!!!

Oh, my God! How could such a powerful, lyric, and dramatic orchestral piece have such a perfect realization for 2 pianos? Vyacheslav, you are a true genius!
You are a marvelous performer, but your transcriptions are impeccable!
Oh, how I love Rachmaninov! His 2nd Piano Concerto absolutely captured my heart at age 8 in my second year of learning the piano. (I saw it performed by Arthur Rubinstein in a Hollywood movie.)
Not only is Rachmaninov's music accessible to all, it is fiendishly difficult to play and so complex. Listening to Rachmaninov's music gives me an experience of the divine!

So impressed with these two young men. Beautiful playing. Also the recording engineer performer an awesome job here. The clarity of the lines was outstanding.

What a feast for lovers of 2piano music. Two brilliant players and well-balanced instruments to match. I find this arrangement mostly more satisfying than Rach's original and closer to the colors and strength of the orchestral version. This gives a marvellous view of Rach's last masterpiece. Bravo, arranger/and both pianists!

everything sounds so incredibly well-proportioned...so brilliant that does seem not to be true for a live performance. Such variety of touch. The transcription is so attuned to Rach´s language. God bless you, Vyacheslav

Amazing piano playing and amazing transciption. However - though I unashamedly loved it, and will listen many times - it's Rachmaninoff's piano writing in the first piano concerto style, far too lush and overwritten nothing like his piano style at the time of the S Dances. This transcription reminds me of the trio elegaic turned into a piano concerto - I love it but - like Busoni's Bach Chaconne and like this transcription - it's a version.

In what way is it Mr Grayznov's arrangement? What is different here from Rachmaninoff's own two-piano version? Little adjustments are always down to such pieces (very bad ones here indeed) but people don't call them their arrangements! This is quite alarming indeed. Rachmaninoff's two-piano version is perfect in every way and I can't see the little unnecessary things that Mr Gryaznov has done here in any way have improved the piece.

Well, a simple example: 11:12 to 11:16: they switch to +1 octave to simulate the piccolo, and dare I say the result is better than the original arrangement. Rach was a beast, but it doesn't mean the arranging he did (and he probably did it quick) couldn't be tweaked to improve faithfulness...

    • @hadinossanosam4459

@@whitecanid8938 Rachmaninoff didn't arrange the orchestral piece for two pianos... I've read in a biography ("Rachmaninoff" by Michael Scott iirc) that all his orchestral pieces instead started out as a version for two pianos he then expanded for the entire orchestra, including the piano concertos themselves. So really, his "arrangement" would be the "original"! Though ultimately, none of this matters, people just prefer different versions.

Well, the music remains the same(!), but for me, Rach's own 2piano version always seemed a "playable" sketch, not giving full value to the magnificent expression he achieved in the orchestral version. Here, Gryaznov re-balances certain textures to enrich the sound, certain melodic lines....to better approach the orchestral expression. I find the changes modest, discreet, and always respecting the spirit.
Another example might be the composer's arrangements of orchestral accompaniments to his concertos; they are "playable" compromises, but anyone wishing to perform the 2piano versions in public would be advised to add to, or modify certain passages. For example: the ending climax of concerto2, 2nd movement (orch part), is "unlistenable" as written! An imaginative pianist could improve it, altho it would become quite difficult to play!
