I’ve purchased some items through poshmark last year but I find Mercari easier to navigate. I started using Mercari end of 2023 & have been able to purchase quite a bit of makeup at great prices through it. I send in lower offers too (when I can bundle) but I hate how it’s deemed lowballing -there have been many times where what seems like a good deal may not be that way when you factor in the shipping + fees (especially, if you’re not using a balance, you have two fees to pay). I’ve started adding to my cart on the brand site and almost going through the purchase so I can see the total and compare to the total on Mercari and use that to send an offer through. My rule is that with all fees, my secondhand purchase should be at least 20% lower than buying from the site. I like that I can set alerts for products I’m interested in so whenever something gets added to my wishlist, I add a saved search for it in hopes I can get it for a deal. The best deal I stumbled upon was dragon eye for $15 ($24 after fees/shipping)!
Yep, I do the same thing: comparing the website price to secondhand price after fees and see A) if it's really a good deal and B) if I'm willing to pay that price either way. Mercari is far and away and easier app to use, IMO. Thanks for your thoughts!
Your eye look is so pretty 🤩 I have honestly never purchased or sold on Poshmark. I have done fairly well with Mercari. But, dang the fees are CRAZY NOW 😢😢
Good morning! I don't think that's enough material to make a video, so I'll just tell you here. :-) I always offer discounted shipping, because I know the high fees and don't mind taking a small hit in order to finalize the sale. As for packaging, USPS.com will send FREE shipping supplies to your front door! I get a few orders of the padded flat rate envelopes, wrap the palettes in tissue paper or bubble wrap, include a Thank you note, and wrap the whole bundle in one of the padded envelopes. Then I slip it all inside another padded envelope and address that one. Good luck with your listings!
@shimmersandsilver I'm seriously thinking about doing the same as you - creating an account on Mercari to sell what I don't want and buy what I do want. It sounds like work though. Lol
@socialliz6805 it works if you either have a lot that will sell well, are patient to wait for a buyer, aren’t looking for the newest thing, or are content with being bound to your balance. 😉 It works for me, and might for you too!
I started buying second hand with EBay ,so many people who have/had boxycharm and other subscriptions (sometimes multiples to get other options ) that there was little chance of fake palettes . Then I branched into discounters ( I’d discovered that powders could be sanitized with 90% isopropyl . I signed up with Poshmark and later Mercari. I like both, but there are some things I really prefer over on Poshmark . Less hoops to track your order on Poshmark . It feels like I have more pages to get thru to get to my order tracking on Mercari . The real annoyance for me P vs. M ? Mercari only lets you bundle 10 items! That is 10 items total, not per seller!I have a TON of likes on both sites but Posh lets me have as many bundles from different sellers as I want . And the number of items in a bundle can go pretty high too . I want to say 30+? I can’t remember exactly , but I did hit the ceiling when I was buying a bunch of colourpop and accessories from a seller last year.
I had no idea they had caps on bundles! Sounds like you do a lot of buying/selling on these apps, so I appreciate the extra info you shared with us. :-) I've never bought makeup off Ebay... is there still a large market for that or has it been replaced by these apps? Thanks for your time and comment, Jennifer!
Mercari has recently updated and the 10 cap period has changed. Though I have messaged sellers on mercari when I am I terested in multiple products and had them bundle them for me after we have settled on a price, I find the fees are better that way.
@jennifersmith6747 better than it was. And if you find more than 20 from a single seller you can always contact them to make you a offering as a single item
These apps are sadly or fortunately only available in the states and since I live in Germany not accessible but great tips. I tend to use eBay when I’m looking for almost new eyeshadow palettes.
Yes, I remember a buddy in Latvia saying the same thing. I am a little surprised that other countries don't have their own versions, but maybe the infrastructure isn't in place. (or maybe some do!)
I don't use Poshmark anymore. I had to purchase through the app and they wanted me to scan my DL or Passport! I haven't used Mercari in a long time, so, if they're asking the same, I will not be buying second hand like that anymore 😔
I do not remember that request, but maybe it's a new one? Seems quite unnecessary to require that of anyone when we're already linking our cards/bank accounts and addresses! :-[
@shimmersandsilver Yes, it's a new one, because I had used the site before, and they had not asked that, then. I am old school, so I don't love apps or doing important things on my phone, because of the tiny screen 😝
This eye look is really pretty and I think it's very flattering on you ❤
Thank you so much 🙂

Oh thanks, Aleisha! Yeah, it's only worth buying secondhand if you can find a great price on the item, because fees will jack it up a lot.
@@shimmersandsilver Sometimes as much as the product you are buying. Mercari is getting ridiculous.
Quite true, Kat!
Please do a video with your selling tips, like what shipping you use, how to package, etc. I'll be selling some of my ColourPop and others. Thanks!

I've never used either to buy makeup because I didn't know where to start. This video is a helpful guide - thanks!
Excellent; so glad it was useful!

I don’t use poshmark but Mercari is my jam
I definitely prefer Mercari.

@Katsbeautyspace that’s a good idea!
Just tested this new cap limit . Um. It’s only doubled .😾😿 limit seems to be 20 items now.

I get super crabby when I have too much screen time, but the smaller the screen, the worse it is. I’m old school too.
