All these negative comments are irritating. Having read the books im going by what i know and it looks great so far. Stop comparing it to the movie. It is not the movie. It is a whole different cast and you shouldn't judge it so poorly because it doesn't look to your liking. It looks great to me. And i hope they go more by the book this time since its a show now.
it isnt a reboot if it was written by Lemmeny Snickets himself, the author of the books and plus. Lemmeny hated the movie! The creator of the books hated it! And one last thing hater, in the series people actually come in many skin colours unlike the movie. In the movie they act like white people are the only people on the earth
Yeah it's hard to replace an almost perfect certain zany and cleverness that Jim Carry brings to the characters he play. Him and the late great Robin Williams it would be strange for anyone to fill the role of any character they play but eventually it happens.
While the comedic liberties certainly are different from the original's tone, I think they add to the charm of it. Excited to see how this adaptation pans out! Although I do hope that they don't rush through all the books and try to fit everything in one season. So far, doesn't seem like it, but that is a concern.
i heard a rumour that the first season is books 1-4, the second season is books 5-8 and the the third is books 9-13. The second season has already been confirmed, so it seems to hold a bit of weight
Raruna I don't think they really are liberties though. The books were always absurdly funny to me and that really added to the story, because there would be this comedic tone in the midst of horror and darkness. That was always one of my favourite things, about the books and lemony snicket/dan harmond in general
Raruna i don't like the comedic aspect. Yes there needs to be some comedy but the entire series can't be comedy. I am a huge fan of the book series and I thought the original one with jim Carrey was amazing.
This is SO good. I expected it to be more for kids, but this is just really much fun! I loved every second of it. Watched it multiple timer (showed it to my family and they loved it too). As a film maker i have to say that I'm IMPRESSED by all the coloring, camera and directing choices / work. Thank you so much this is just amazing!
I thought that was "Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events" remake, now i find it to be a tv series. I love the movie and now the tv series gonna make me addicted.
It didn't make enough money and wasn't that well recieved by critics and audiences but mainly didn't make enough money for studios to justify continuing . It made 118 mil of 140 mil budget .
Saara Mohamed I don't know I didn't really like Carrey's Olaf. It was good and all but kind of a let down after the books, but that may have just been because the movie was a let down, not specifically him. I think he could have done a great job if the script had been well done but it wasn't.
So excited! This is probably my all time favorite book series. Hope they keep the dark, macabre vibe to the show as was in the books. It made them what they were.
To me it looks more like they're trying to do something similar to Wes Anderson's style of filmmaking. Yes, I guess it is supposed to look a little fake, but not in a really bad way. More in a caricature kind of way? It isn't supposed to look completely natural, but I personally find it very visually appealing.
Synecdoche Films I never actually read the story when I was a kid... I was the biggest scaredy-cat around and the book covers/titles intimidated me LOL
I really like how unrealistic looking the sets are. At first I was skeptical but now I just love it because it emphasizes the surrealism of the series as a whole! But honestly I feel the sets from the film adaptation were far more superior but I guess we'll have to wait and see until the show is released.
This is just bringing me memories. When I was in my reading group in 3rd grade honors, we read the first book and I became so interested that I asked my parents to buy me the whole set.I still have it on my bookcase after 7 years
I like how it's kid friendly, rather than try and make the book deeper to make it more relatable to adults. It's a book series for kids, and it should be treated as such.
I *loved* the books and am glad this got a series. The movie was alright, but I personally really enjoyed season one, and felt like it shone through any of the few deviations from the books. I found it charming, dark, wry and overall entertaining, and the fact that the author of the books oversaw production enhanced the experience. Looking forward to season two.
One of the trailers showed the darker side of the show, while this one showed the more theatrical side. I always felt that the books had a combination of dark, mysterious, and fantastic that I hope the series will replicate.
Jae Bum this is funny, considering she plays young Kara (Melissa Benoist) on Supergirl , but quite true. She does look like Lea when she was in 'Les Mis'.
This looks too.... Child friendly? Is that the right phrase I want to use? Like I get they are kids books but the movie was so great because the overall tone was darker. Someone like Tim burton would have been much better for this. I have my fingers crossed ok but I can already tell him Carrey plays count Olaf better- he has that perfect mix of madness with a hint of comedy. Neil Patrick Harris is just comedy. And Violet in pink?! Whaat.
likeamusicalride well the clothes are from the mans wife, i cant remember his name. But i think the appeal is to young adults and children. And also this is just a trailer
likeamusicalride i agree with absolutely everything you've said. The best thing about this series is the tone and the movie although they squished too many books into the first one, was superb because of its dark undertone. This loses that completely:( Violet in pink is disgrace enough!!
They couldn't get a better actor to make Count Olaf more sinister! Neil doesn't seem fit to play a villain! Patrick St Esprit from Catching Fire would make an excellent Olaf!
I see your point, I still think it is a marketing thing though, the show is written by Daniel Handler who wrote the books, so I'm confident the tone will be similar.
Okay, I've seen the original Series of Unfortunate Events movies, and I really think that the casting looks way better here than it did on those. They actually look like the characters! (They should add Violet's bow though) I mean the other movies didn't even pay attention to detail like with Klaus's glasses! He wasn't even wearing any! And they left a lot of scenes out and I got so mad. I have a feeling this will be way better than the old movies.
Ok, ok, everyone's fighting over movie vs books vs show, and here I am, and the only thing I need to know is if we're gonna see the Quagmire triplets...
Just one of the many strategies of Barney Stinson. The Count Olaf - Be the guardian of the Baudelaire children, Steal their fortune then pick up some chicks along the way..
Sabrina i it's based on the books. The books were insanely funny as well as terrifying and dark and mysterious. It seems like the got the funny part down, hoping they also get the dark tones
I am VERY excited for this, i remember becoming so invested in the books, hope the series goes on to cover all the backstory and deeper themes from the books!
"I read the title and clicked it faster than an African child running to a waterhole" sorry that was hilarious but totally rude XD apologies for all offended people
I don't see why it's so hard to just follow the original storyline. The original movie had the right vibe/darkness, but it messed with the story line so badly it was irreconcilable. This looks like it's going to follow the storyline properly but they've completely altered the feeling of it. The books certainly contained a ridiculous sense of humor but they were largely dreary and got progressively darker. I'm not sure this looks like it'll navigate that very well :/ i'll give it a shot though.
Woman comes to arrest Count Olaf. Olaf pulls out a knife, she pulls out a cleaver, he pulls out a machete. Woman: Adorable. Count Olaf (incredulous): Is that a harpoon gun?! Because, yeah, apparently that's a thing.
I didn't really like the movie that came out. yes they did good casting, and we're good at portraying characters, but there was too much in the series to be covered in one movie. They left out about 2/3rd of the plot. while I'm not one to usually complain about movie adaptations of books, I was thoroughly disappointed even at that young age.
I don't understand how in every comment I see someone is carping about this trailer. This looks astounding. Adored the books, hated the movie. This looks dark, foreboding, mysterious, yet has a bit of dark comedy like the book.
All the comments are about Jim Carry and the crappy movie. That and this is gonna be a show that is supposed to be VERY close to the books. The fandom is gonna keep them to their word. Lastly, anyone wanna place bets on who the woman Olaf is arguing with is at the end?
Yes, and I think it was good- I don't remember well, I was small. But I think it certainly /looked/ better. However, it appears that this is going to be series, which I think it is awesome if they do it right, since there are so many characters and details that no movie could explore it all in depth that it deserves.
YOO_ Melon yeah and it got very bad reviews and was a let down for people who were fans of the books. They completely messed it up in my opinion. I'm so happy they're giving it another shot and I really think a series is a better fit for the story anyway. I'm excited
Just finished watching this series on Netflix, and it was great! I couldnt stop wstching it and I do think NPH did a great job at Count Olaf. Id watch it again too.
Nina Edwards the movie was okay but completely missed the point and tone of the books, so was a let down for a lot of people. This looks much more fitting and true to the heart of the story in my opinion
It does have more details they coudnt fit everything in the movie, that's why back then it was supposed to be a series of movies idk why it never happened
Count Olaf seems more comedic in this version. If I remember in the books he was more menacing.
From what I remember he was comedic and serious. He only became menacing towards the end of the books.
ElegeantFencer true
they have to save the good stuff, this is probably just to sell it as dark comedy more.
I think because they are recreating Jim Carrey's version
in the movie he was more comedic, than in this and the book, cuz of Jim Carrey xp
Kids this is how your uncle Barney became rich.
Mojtaba Ghavidel FML 😂
How I meet your mother😂❤️
Lmao 😂😂😂
PLEASE
HAHAHAHHA
All these negative comments are irritating. Having read the books im going by what i know and it looks great so far. Stop comparing it to the movie. It is not the movie. It is a whole different cast and you shouldn't judge it so poorly because it doesn't look to your liking. It looks great to me. And i hope they go more by the book this time since its a show now.
Oh my gosh! Not only did they make a reboot of the movie, they also turned it into a Netflix series!
Alex Gerges it's not a reboot of the movie; it's an adaptation of the book series!
tylerisreallylame But they already made the book series into a movie.
it isnt a reboot if it was written by Lemmeny Snickets himself, the author of the books and plus. Lemmeny hated the movie! The creator of the books hated it! And one last thing hater, in the series people actually come in many skin colours unlike the movie. In the movie they act like white people are the only people on the earth
its not a reboot of the movie if the shitty movie wasnt the original product.
Alex Gerges and this is a Showwww
"Is that a harpoon gun" dead
bucca2 that's where I started laughing, and this is Neil Patrick Harris's greatest challenge.
me: FINALLY!!! after 3 fucking seasons
Fr
Why is Violet wearing pink? VIOLET DOESN'T WEAR PINK!
exactly! totally doesn't make sense
It's clothes Mr. Poe gives her, since all of her clothes burned in the fire
+Captain Olimar but in the scene when Mr Poe tells them about their parents, SHE'S WEARING PINK!
Frankly AmaZhang ...Holy...Oh crap, you are right!
Why...Why is she wearing *PINK??*
I know, she hates pink! It kinda bugs me too.
This was my childhood, Im gonna live again (!!!)
The Lucky One finally a good comment, I love this too, it's my favorite!!
The Lucky One This is the best Netflix series!!!!!
Its going to be legend *wait for it* dary
You forgot the *i hope you're not lactose intolerant because the next word is* part
but you got to give it to whoever does casting. they totally look like the original cast! !
super trueeeee. esp violet and count olaf
Right! At first, I thought this was the real trailer of the old movie. Because I've never seen the trailer for it, lol
The young girl is the younger version of super girl
Louise Glass I knew she looked familiar. Thank you so much because it was really starting to bother me.
THANK YOU
yes!
Louise Glass 😊😊
gah! thank you! i was trying to figure out where i've seen her!
I really miss Jim Carey
It looks extremely similar to his movie :(
nobody can fill his shoes, ITS JIM CAREY FOR GODS SAKE......Sorry barney stinson...stick to your bro CODE..
Yeah it's hard to replace an almost perfect certain zany and cleverness that Jim Carry brings to the characters he play. Him and the late great Robin Williams it would be strange for anyone to fill the role of any character they play but eventually it happens.
Tyler Nugent nobody can beat him tbh
Tyler Nugent yesss

Never clicked on a trailer faster in my entire life.
I AGREE! SO MUCH WORK is behind this series. It is SOO good. and lets not forget that there is really good humor.
Right?!
Lets not forget the acting. It is SO GOOOOOOOODD! Like there is no awkward acting, everything is on purpose and i love it. That baby! O.m.g
I thought that was "Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events" remake, now i find it to be a tv series. I love the movie and now the tv series gonna make me addicted.
Maulana Amrullah true I also LOVE the books I just have to read the 13th one
livirod cool I'm on the 4th book right now
NPH is the only person to play count olaf after jim carrey. Nicely done ;)
He really does look the part but neither of them have the scratchy voice that the character has
I KNOW RIGHT!
have you ever heard the audiobooks
When you don't got Netflix, don't wanna spend your money, but want to see this so bad: 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Don't feel bad about this!
there are many other sites you can watch these on though, not just netflix ;)
and their free!
Charmi Gal OMG I FEEL U😭
Charmi Gal
waited my whole childhood for them to get this right, looks great!
the movie got about as much as it could possibly get while still being one movie.
So weird not seeing Meryl Streep or Jim Carey in this version
ikr
whyyyyy just make more movies. the first one was great. this looks..
it's not movie, its a tv serires
Maulana Amrullah i know. i'm just saying they should've continued the movies instead of making a netflix series out of it
It didn't make enough money and wasn't that well recieved by critics and audiences but mainly didn't make enough money for studios to justify continuing . It made 118 mil of 140 mil budget .
Thomas Thas that's so disappointing, i really thought the first movie came out well.
As did I but studios are a business as the end of the day , and it's bad business to invest in a franchise that lost them money.
No One can be Count Olaf better than Jim carrey
Saara Mohamed ikr
Saikou Chan totally but we'll just see how the new count olaf will be
***** Yeah
Saara Mohamed I don't know I didn't really like Carrey's Olaf. It was good and all but kind of a let down after the books, but that may have just been because the movie was a let down, not specifically him. I think he could have done a great job if the script had been well done but it wasn't.
Bec Horrigan True but He did way better with that script
So excited! This is probably my all time favorite book series. Hope they keep the dark, macabre vibe to the show as was in the books. It made them what they were.
the movie was really good actually, i'd never thought i would have watched it but i did
This is a recreation of the original movie. So there's two. One in general and one that Netflix is making.
Rachel Tang thats my friends skype pic
Actually, Jeb is fab, it's an adaption to film by the author himself. The movie, in the author's eyes, was terrible.
Is it supposed to look so fake? Everything looks like it's made of plastic
Nick Pringle the series is still in development so they might fix some stuff but I agree
To me it looks more like they're trying to do something similar to Wes Anderson's style of filmmaking. Yes, I guess it is supposed to look a little fake, but not in a really bad way. More in a caricature kind of way? It isn't supposed to look completely natural, but I personally find it very visually appealing.
Okay after watching the first season, I love it and its art direction
If you've read the books, then you'll know that the story takes place in a timeless/steam-punk-esque universe.
I'm finally happy that they're making a series based on my favorite books.
YES, this is the proper way to do Series of Unfortunate Events! I AM SO PUMPED!! Can't wait for January to roll around. 🎉🎉
100% agree. This comedic unrealistic feel and look to it is how the books were and the books were brilliant. Just amazing!
oh so now, theyre making the book series into tv series and not relating it to the movie?
yes it's not related to the movie. It's evident by them doing the story of the first 3 books again even though they were done in the movie.
idk personally i feel this doesn't look half as good as the movie but who knows - maybe i'll be pleasantly surprised !
lily yes. Don't judge a show by its trailer 😉
This is just bringing me memories. When I was in my reading group in 3rd grade honors, we read the first book and I became so interested that I asked my parents to buy me the whole set.I still have it on my bookcase after 7 years
Sunny is the Violet's continuation.... ❤️😍... Finally glad after that happy and peaceful ending..... ❤️
I am honestly so hyped to see neil patrick harris play Count Olaf
One of the trailers showed the darker side of the show, while this one showed the more theatrical side. I always felt that the books had a combination of dark, mysterious, and fantastic that I hope the series will replicate.
I prefer the original actors and Jim Carey(I think that's how you spell his last name) compared these ones. No hate just saying
I do as well, but I must admit how funny this is.
i've watch the originals, and now after watch this trailler i wanted to watch it again, hm would you tell me the title of the orinal movie ??
sitifauziah choi the original is the same title as this but has a better Olaf, IMO but I'm biased cause I'm a huge Jim Carey fan.
same here. i prefer jim carrey as count olaf :-)
I actually prefer Neil Patrick Harris as he looks fitting for Count Olaf in the later books, since Olaf gets really menacing later on.
Arthur Poe, aunt Josephine, and sunny don't look so good
KingVamp 101 Meryl Streep will forever be Aunt Josephine to me
I think sunny looks fine
THANK GOD! I've been waiting forever for them to redo this series properly. This looks like it may actually do the series justice!
Is it just me? Or the girl looks like a little bit or younger version of Lea Michele.
Jae Bum I was thinking the same thing!!!
Jae Bum this is funny, considering she plays young Kara (Melissa Benoist) on Supergirl , but quite true. She does look like Lea when she was in 'Les Mis'.
Believe me this whole series was awesome, i wasn't able to stop myself from watching it, ending is also quite good. 💞
Tim Burton? Now that's a good joke.
likeamusicalride Tim Burton just makes everything worse
likeamusicalride i agree with absolutely everything you've said. The best thing about this series is the tone and the movie although they squished too many books into the first one, was superb because of its dark undertone. This loses that completely:( Violet in pink is disgrace enough!!
Looks good. I already *loved* the first adaption, _I love this as well_ , hope it does as well as it deserves!
They couldn't get a better actor to make Count Olaf more sinister! Neil doesn't seem fit to play a villain! Patrick St Esprit from Catching Fire would make an excellent Olaf!
"Why do you hate us so much?"
"Because..(evil laugh) it's fun!"
This makes me want to read the whole series again.
Cool. I'm excited. NPH is always 10/10, and nothing but good memories from the books. Cost of a netflix subscriptions to watch it is more than enough.
Noooo. there is no way they can do this justice. They are turning it into a comedy. WHYYYY
I thought the books were funny.
Yes they were Funny, but this seems a little too much
I see your point, I still think it is a marketing thing though, the show is written by Daniel Handler who wrote the books, so I'm confident the tone will be similar.
idk if you saw it yet or not, but they actually maintained a dark tone pretty well i think. there was some sick humor
When i was younger i was obsessed with these books & the film, i was so upset when they didn't make another one. so excited for this to come out
I'm 30 seconds in but I'm telling you guys, I get Tim Burton, Edward Scissor Hands vibes from this.
The Girl plays young Kara in Supergirl!!
THANK YOU! I knew I recognized her but couldn't remember from where.
Lucy FluffyAJ I can't wait for this! I love the books! and i felt the same way
Yeah except Klaus looks older than Violet...
hi :3 I didn't expect you to be here
Neil playing Olaf is just perfect!
Niel Patrick Harris is the only reason that I'm thinking of watching this.
I love this trio better than the movie's one. They fit their role way more, in my opinion.
This looks phenomenal
OMG!!!!!! IVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS ALL MY LIFE I LOVE THIS WHEN I WAS A KID THANK YOU SO MUCH NOW I REMEBERED , BUT WE DONT HAVE NETFLIX ANYMORE
I have waited so long for this
I REMEMBER BEING SO OBSESSED W THE BOOK SERIES WHEN I WAS YOUNGER
Wtf? No! They had it right the first time.
urbandekaybabe what the frig. No! They didn't! Did you read the books?
urbandekaybabe ikr
Wtf no, they got it wrong the first time
Jim Carrey, Meryl Streep and Emily Browning were AMAZING in the original version, it was perfect...
So is this, trust me!
nobody can replace jimcarry
True dat.
I was hoping too.
of course NPH can replace Jim Carrey
NPH can
Sarath R No Neil is way way better
Ok, ok, everyone's fighting over movie vs books vs show, and here I am, and the only thing I need to know is if we're gonna see the Quagmire triplets...
@Potato Cat yes, I have 😂
Just one of the many strategies of Barney Stinson.
The Count Olaf - Be the guardian of the Baudelaire children, Steal their fortune then pick up some chicks along the way..
binged watched the whole series, this is so underrated! great show!
is it supposed to be a comedy series of the movie?
Sabrina i its gonna be based off the book series
Sabrina i it's based on the books. The books were insanely funny as well as terrifying and dark and mysterious. It seems like the got the funny part down, hoping they also get the dark tones
they're good books.but they're not "insanely" funny or terrifying....those are pretty big exaggerations
Sabrina i It has a sad ending
Rooster it's not a comedy
I am VERY excited for this, i remember becoming so invested in the books, hope the series goes on to cover all the backstory and deeper themes from the books!
Yup, this movie still makes me think I'm high.
Just finished the series.... Only goes to the 4th book. I LOVE THIS SERIES PLZ CONTINUE.
:(
I read the title and clicked faster than....
god dammit, I don't have a good simile
"I read the title and clicked it faster than an African child running to a waterhole"
sorry that was hilarious but totally rude XD apologies for all offended people
__paint __
faster than you could say count olaf?
Faster than a turtle?
Faster than a kangaroo air jumping
My childhood is coming alive better and stronger
Donald Trump: "Wrong"
Count Olaf: "Wrong"
Coincidence? I think not...
This goes out on Netflix the day after my birthday also I wished they casted Jim Carry again
I got an ad teaser for season two of this series before this trailer starts. What a coincidence! XD
I watched this series it is very nice
I watched the movie, I've read all of the books and I am looking forward to this!
Why did that scene make me think of Jim Carrey in The Mask?
Because Jim Carrey was the previous Olaf
Olaf: Is that a harpoon gun?
Me: Where were you even...? "Looks around for where she could've been hiding it*
10 years to late
too*
I didn't realize it took 10 years to get to late :3
I've tried to change it. It always says "unknown error" when I try.
no, there is already a movie of this book! much better than what this one looks like!
Esme Squalor?
That's what I was thinking.
Becca Owl its Esme Squalor WHY? It's because the harpoon gun she has in the books she kills someone with it
Who else wants Jim Carrey as Count Olaf again?
This actually looks fun
My inner child is jumping and crying of joy. Yes. Just... *yes*...
Is it wrong to feel that Jim Carrey should have reprised his role?
I feel it as well.
Jim Carey should DEFINITELY have been given the role , though I think the new actor will do well
OMG!!! Neil Patrick!!! definitely gonna watch it.
Honestly, the books and even the first movie were better
"is that a harpoon gun?" Best line ever
I love Neil Patrick Harris :D
Just finished watching the series in one day! Sunny is so cute!!! 😍
it looks like it go's along with all the books
I've read the books, it was my favourite series as a child 😍
That kid looks exactly like matpat holy shit
Ron Fudim Omg how come i never noticed 😂
Ron Fudim Claus? I know!
I read all 13 of the books and they need to make ALL of the books into a movie
Didn't people already make a movie about this??? Like, a long while ago?
Yes, and I think it was good- I don't remember well, I was small. But I think it certainly /looked/ better. However, it appears that this is going to be series, which I think it is awesome if they do it right, since there are so many characters and details that no movie could explore it all in depth that it deserves.
YOO_ Melon yea and it was much better
You haven't even seen the Netflix series. How do you know the film is better?
YOO_ Melon yeah and it got very bad reviews and was a let down for people who were fans of the books. They completely messed it up in my opinion. I'm so happy they're giving it another shot and I really think a series is a better fit for the story anyway. I'm excited
The movie only adapted the first 3 books. This series intends to adapt all of them, and therefore it'll probably also be more faithful.
Just finished watching this series on Netflix, and it was great! I couldnt stop wstching it and I do think NPH did a great job at Count Olaf. Id watch it again too.
YESS I READ THE WHOLE SERIESS
I'm supposed to be watching this in the cinemas, but this one person won't let me.
OMG IT"S BARNEY!!
Neil Patrick Harris nailed it. No matter what everyone says.
Violet looks so old :/ I like the original movie better
Nina Edwards the movie was okay but completely missed the point and tone of the books, so was a let down for a lot of people. This looks much more fitting and true to the heart of the story in my opinion
Bec Horrigan ......Yea I read all of the books and I think this has more details from the books than the original movie
It does have more details they coudnt fit everything in the movie, that's why back then it was supposed to be a series of movies idk why it never happened
Nina Edwards same
If I recall the movie didn't make enough at the box office so the series got chopped
Finally a show that isn't on RUclips red . Thank god for Netflix.
