"I need to stretch more"
- me after watching any Mikey match
He is flexible but his legs are also short so that helps
ONE is doing a great job with all these different match types. I hope they continue to grow and take over the MMA/Grappling game.
They wont
@@AudibleVisibIe Well, now that the great "AudibleVisible" said so, LOL.
When the audience does the wave it means they're bored. 😂
I wanna say I disagree but I actually never see it started 😭
Julo matri kalisto
That flexibility is nuts
The nuts are flexible
Flexibility in BJJ is underrated
The guard retention is crazy
Even Gordon Ryan in the interview with Lex said he couldn’t pass Mikey’s guard.
I don't know a lot about grappling but it's fun to watch and both athletes are excellent technicians!
That’s amazing man. Most people watching grappling are just practitioners because the positions and transitions are so cryptic.
most people do not recognise the skill, talent and art it is to grapple to this level .
I’m a 39 year old dad and I just started Jiu Jitsu and I want to be like Mikey when I grow up.
Hello brother, I’ve been training for 2y and just got into advanced mma.
Expect a lot of injuries.
Don’t forget to stretch and take days off
@@C0d0psdont be Debbie downer 😂 just roll like a super eagle @SuperEagle112 and don’t let your ego get to you be the cool dad who eventually gets a belt or two and remember you’re ears can always be saved
just go to fly weight and you will be fine lol
so you want to become a snowflake ... some role model for your kids you'd make
Cleber looking like: 😡
Mikey looking like: 🐶
Cleber Sousa is a Beast 💥💯
No
I respect Mikey's strategy here, but it's quite boring to watch someone who doesn't stand up and advance.
if it works then why would how change, it's the opponent's job to conquer that strat.
He is constantly attacking and looking for entries, you don't have to stand up to be on the advance. But I get that it's probably boring to everyone but bjj fanatics.
Agree
It’s Jiu Jitsu 😅. It’s not boring to me..
@@metalsadman he never said he needs to change it. He literally said he respects it. It just doesn't entertain him and thats understandable
I love watching brazilian ju-heelhook-su and really diving into the different sub attempts
Mikey’s willingness and ability to take what is given and flow and think with lightning speed is awesome.
You must've seen a different match. He scooted around and refused to stand
@@Rob_2002_NCAA_Champion I must have missed the rule about mandatory standing.
@@eristicfreethinker2098bjj is simulated combat. You can ignore it if you esnt and be willfully dense. It's up to you
@@Rob_2002_NCAA_Champion It’s a sport. With rules. Don’t like the rules, go play a different game.
Congrats Mikey! 👏👏👏
JJ Masterclass. Thanx One!
The mobility in his little legs is crazy
I find pure BJJ competition interesting. It's a super focused part of fighting like boxing. But unlike boxing it doesn't look like fighting at all.
Just a very technical intricate game.
Great guard work.
cleber que buena contratacion
I respect the sport and skill but having your legs up in the air beckoning someone to come on top of you will never not be weird
“I love the fact that the audience is into this match. There’s a wave going around the stadium, that’s how much they appreciate this high level grappling action.”
That’s what audiences do when they’re bored as fuck
geez, that was intense
It’s crazy how Mikey does rip that heel hook even though he could’ve. What a guy

Wow! These gentleman are top notch!
Mikey is the best one and so deserving to make history and be the 1st fly weight submission grappler champion!!! 🇺🇸🎖
For one yes. But how about adcc or such? New to bjj here
I actually enjoy when people pull guard one of my favorite parts of the fight is watching and seeing people try and pass guard
impresionante los dos 😮😯
❤❤❤❤❤ Congratulation ! Mikey Musumeci.
What if they both decided to adopt the “winning” strategy, and just both sat on their asses waiting for the other to make a move?
Mikey is amazing even his sister Tammi the most humble clan I have ever met.
8:34 “He stood up…HE STOOD Uoooooooh” had a brief moment of thinking MM would pursue some action
Yes, i knew it that Mikey was more dominant and became the winner.
Overall both practitioner are good👍🏻
Someone gotta double guard pull Mikey. Everyone just playing into his game
Exactly
Was tried by imanira and he still won
They all being soft. Watch Gabriel Sousa vs Mikey Musumeci for neutralizing that guard.
@@will201084 yup I seen that match . Souza is a friken machine! He definitely came to fight
I'd like to see a rule that if an opponent chooses to stay down that all types of standing strikes would be allowed.
Different then a person supporting themselves or in the act of getting back up to the feet.
You can see it. It's called Pride Fighting Championships, but you will have to watch reruns. (Correction: no elbows allowed. They were into blunt force trauma, but not blood.) But why would "a person supporting themselves or in the act of getting back up to the feet" make a difference?
Bro this man in the first couple of seconds is rolling around on the floor like a spider 😭🙏
Menos espetacular e tal. Tá no subconsciente da galera. Aí os estadunidenses etc tão passando o trem
I waited so long for him to fight again only to ignore it for four months 🤦🏾♂️. He definitely needs to add more to his submission repitoir though; if that was a title bout I don’t see him keeping that for long with just that.
He played Mikey's game the whole time using all his energy haha. Wish he tried a Estima lock once but probably wouldn't work on those rubber legs lol
It still puzzels me that guys still try passing guys like mikey and miyao standing, you have to pass low and control the hips to pass these guys.
U must be a grand master 😅
@@yayo4nasal no but a 2 stripe blackbelt and have trained with some legendary guard passers over the years and i have watched my current coaches pass these impassable guards and in nogi its nearly impossible standing, as you are giving a guy with insane flexibility and leg dexterity all the space in the world and giving them tons of leg entries. Passing them low is still difficult but doable, if i control your hips and then get my hips involved i am confident to pass just about anyone. Passing standing is different with the gi cause of strong grips. Probably the best passer on the planet right now is gordon and he gets low controls the hips and beats their legs with his hips same with guys like marcelo and roger, you dont see these guys running laps around the head and trying to jump thru the guard with no control.
They stand you up if you try pressure passing though like in their other grappling match
@@NDtoker i have never seen a standup in one grappling matches, do you have an example i can watch.
Maybe it's better to try to take the back or submit the knee although we've already seen myial not tap even on the knee
the whole crowd is doing the wave "that just shows how much they are absolutely loving this grappling match" hahaha this made me laugh. They were bored out of their minds. No one doing waves in MMA matches. And I personally LOVE jiu jitsu but unless you understand in depth what is going on and how much strategy is happening in each position it can be a very rough viewing sport.
i always wonder how'd he do with striking involved.
What were the rulesets of this fight?
This is why I hate BJJ.
Also a world champion in submission grappling despite not getting a submission....
Not all world champion in boxing get KO every match neither…
@@allenchang6185 true but boxing is the sport of hitting and not getting hit. Submission grappling is about the submissions. For a championship match they should do no time limits, winner by submission only.
@@ynghuch wouldnt bjj be the sport of submitting and not being submitted?
@@s51fish ye but there was no submission. How do they even score it? Should be a submission finish for a championship match.
@@ynghuch some tournaments do submission only or it goes to judges decision or overtime or no time limit and can go on for hours. For points or judges decisions it depends on who get more dominant positions and submission attempts, even though the end goal is submission, getting dominant positions(guard pass, back take, mount etc) is huge part of bjj and what makes it effective in MMA.
Imagine Mikey fighting on the street like that... I just find it hilarious. Hahaha well he's good with his craft.
Sousa is obviously a positional player and Musumeci is a submission all time great. This whole match was Sousa searching for position while at the same time attempting to defend against being submitted the whole match. He never went for a single submission himself as, it seems, he was just looking to survive the match without being a victim to Mikey's submission game. Musumech is my favourite JJ fighter in the world, and, with all due respect to Gordon, my P4P #1.
Let's make the distinction. Jiujitsu practitioner, yes. But fighter, not hardly. Big difference.
@@wuhlfhgill2072 Umm, it was a JJ match :p
@@blueeyedbull67 true. But it was not a fight.
Look I train. But I don't roll and claim it was a fight. It wasn't.
@@wuhlfhgill2072 Wow, you really are a douche. Who cares if you "roll" where in my post did I say it was a fight? I specifically said it was a JJ match. So you are both illiterate and have serious small d energy. Get a life troll.

"My favorite jj FIGHTER"
Duhhhhhm a$$
Mikey manages to be impressively skilled and boring at the same time. Fortunately for him there's no penalty for the "sitting, waiting, wishing" tactic, cause his guard is gold.
its a shame right? hes one of the very best but boring for the fans. not like ive studied all his matches, but of what ive seen i dont think ive ever seen someone settle a pass on him
IT IS CALLED BJJ....SMH
guard reference❤
OK Mikey now it’s time to let someone else have a turn 😂
You love to see it
Eu daria empate. Foi muito equilibrado.
They should limit the number of times you can pull guard. Once a match is more than enough
Mikey was VERY dominant so the call was easy to make there
As skillful as this is, this type of jiu-jitsu is now so far removed from actual fighting and self-defense skills.
I mean I'm pretty sure Mikey could take someone down and hold them in side control as well, this is just what the sport looks like at the highest level
If you think Mikey wouldn’t destroy people in self defense, you’re crazy.
@@atticusfinch3536 in the street you cannot do berimbolo and bjj does not have takedowns, so from my perspective it is far away to be usable in the street as other real martial arts like Judo, Taekwondo, and even Karate are more effective out of the mat, be in your two feet in a street fight is priceless. That does not mean it cannot be effective, but this is a 100% mat activity
@@dantesalvadornovoahernande9875 you can both be good at sport jiujitsu and self defense jiujitsu, just because this is what works in a submission grappling match doesn't mean this is what you would do in a self defense situation
@@fizzmoe9846 the average person yes but a wrestler or anyone with decent takedown defense would be a major problem for him.
The other guy was too reckless! I think mike kept his strategy very well saving energy and just being smart about the movements!
How do you attack the guy who's just freaking sitting there 😂😂
New rule set should include: slams from any height allowed on any player that pulls gaurd
Or can kick players that pull gaurd
Mma fans unite
I wana see two guys post on each others cups and spin to escape
In an interview, Gordon Ryan said that he wasn’t able to cleanly pass Mikey’s guard in training.
I like mikey, but souza got out of EVERYTHING, and on top of that he had way better cardio, he was ready to go another 10 minutes. Should've had an additional round in Overtime for truly deciding the Champion
Lol Souza got out of everything because all he did the whole match is run from mikey. He never once committed to a pass or attempted a submission. This match wasn’t even close to being in Souzas favor
Mikey dominated him idk what you are talking about my dude
@@fizzmoe9846 he gave mike his legs every time without fear, what you talking about lol
i wanna see mikey fight a striker
Jiu jitsu has moved so far from its roots, self defense, for the street, to lying on your back to grab a leg.
Just the same way that Judo, boxing and many other disciplines are different from its roots.
I totally see your point, but it's important to keep in mind that combat is not about looking like a professional, it's about being efficient. Let's just appreciate the fact that the kid reached a high level on his defense and he is the best at it.
It would be fun
Jiu Jitsu has been destroyed by these leg hunters.
Damn you, John Danaher!
@@mba321 Yep. And the rules committee.
His guard is ridiculous
Mike seems like such a nice guy, hard to not like him
Considering how he fights I think it is very easy not to like him
can you imagine if Mikey decides he wants to start wrestling...geez
He’d be a nice quick pin for sure
The crowd was most impressive.
dudes lookin around at the end like “ okay.. wait what do I do now”
Not fair...rematch....
With all due respect to the competitors. BJJ looks absolutely pathetic in a cage
This is not the full spectrum of bjj. It's how Mikey M and some others win, however. I've been to some very exciting cage grappling-only events.
What does he do if someone else sits down first???
They gotta tweak the rule set a bit. These matches are boring as hell and they shouldn’t be given the level of talent in the cage. Just do whatever ADCC does. There are so manny tournaments to pick from to devise an entertaining yet suitable ruleset.
All these guys that fight Mikey need to learn; Stop getting angry. 😂
Does Mikey have the hardest guard to pass in jiu-jitsu? Seems like the Miyao brothers are just as technical and flexible, but Mickey’s shorter legs work to his advantage.
How does he retain guard so good like that? Is it all about frames?
Knee to head= no pass
@@Aliens-Are-Our-Friends2027 super interesting way to put it. I'll try that
It looks like that and a series of leg pummeling and window wiping from guard and inverted guard.
@@Aliens-Are-Our-Friends2027 tell me more about this
@@toma3447 idk man, I'd rewatch the video
9:44 it looks like Souza was doing “cartwheels” to knee Mikey in the face but Mikey is too slick
So if there isn’t a submission and there is a time limit, how do grappling matches get judged?
points given upon achieving different things throughout the fight. im not super familiar with one's grappling ruleset, but im sure you can google it and find out exactly how they give out points in this specific promotion.
MIKEY IS LIKE A... UNIVERSAL TRIPLE CONSTANT VELOCITY JOINT THAT ALWAYS FLOWS WITH THE LEAST RESISTANCE GIVING HIS OPPONENTS POWERLESS OFFENSE...THIS KID IS AMAZING...
He's clearly very talented but it is boring to watch
Para...o Cleber Souza lutou muito mais , Mikey não atacou nem uma vez.....a luta nem começa, aí o cara já senta no chão e espera o oponente....que feio, isso não é jiu-jitsu.
No, no, no! The winner, for me, is Brazil!💪🏻😎🇧🇷
It's like fighting an octopus!
Cleber learned something from BJJ :)
He is training Muay Thai in Thailand to overcome his weaknesses.
If M. M. doesn't have a nickname yet, metinks Ize have a goot' one
THE OCTOPUS
Stretch Armstrong: The Prequel
That guard is almost impossible to pass
Is there a way to turn off the commentating?
why they dont trow punches
They should just make it 15 minutes. They already have 15 minute fights with one minute in between. So, that's 17 minutes. Use all the time you have.
Rules allow for the but scoot championships - hard to watch. No disrespect to Mikey who is just playing to his strength within the rules
so "one" does grappling fights? serious question
If his opponent doesn’t approach him is Mikey penalized for it or the opponent? Does laying on his back like that count as aggression?
I'm here early 👀
Like spiders fighting 😂
I'm sorry but I noticed Brazilians are always sore when they loose. Anyone from Brazil please explain?
This makes high school wrestling look exciting
I thought the Brazilian guy was Harry Maguire in the thumbnail 😂
Please legalize slaps so jiu jitsu can look like a martial art again
Just watch mma
Just watch mma
Legalize Leg kicks if someone sits down
Because slap fights are the closest thing to real combat. These One events are full of jiu jitsu and kickboxing: mma.
Imagine watching a grappling sport and then complaint there aren’t any strike.
🎉
imagine if mikey wouldve randomy stood up and started wrestling just to assert dominance
Full fight? This is not a fight.
