- The Brittas Empire is a British sitcom made and initially composed by Andrew Norriss and Richard Fegen. Chris Barrie played Gordon Brittas, the good natured yet clumsy administrator of Whitbury New Town Leisure Center.
The show kept running for seven arrangement and 53 scenes - including two Christmas specials - from 1991 to 1997 on BBC1. Norriss and Fegen composed the initial five arrangement, after which they cleared out the appear.
They don't make comedy like this anymore. One of the greatest comedies in TV history.
Comedy is dead full stop now.
I punched him in the face
This was right in the middle of the shows peak. Series 4 is brilliant. This was a brilliant end as Gordon goes from zero to hero after losing his job in the previous episode. I like how the series builds stories, they are not just one off stories, they have storylines running through the whole series. By this point the audience felt sorry for Brittas and wanted him back. I like how Laura is so loyal to him.
This was genuinely moving. Brittas barely does anything that bad anymore.
I grew up watching this when I was a child.
Same
And ran to the TV after hearing the opening theme

I love the character . He is decent , honorable and persistent .
He is also annoying, incompetent & insensitive. Lol. I do like him. Couldn’t imagine another person playing the character.
incompetent? majority of the issues are due to others eg colin, or the drunk guy in the wheelchair, etc @@Blondie727
Laugh out loud comedy - brilliant!
What a guy , moving forward id like to be like Gordon .
'She left her child in the ventilation system...' one of my favourite lines :)
How it's delivered as if it's just a run-of-the-mill everyday event!
What a guy! 🥲
Gordon Brittas was one of my first comedy Aspie obsession.
I never knew that the character Gordon had Aspergers. Was it written in the script? I just thought he was an eccentric albeit harmless man. Chris Barrie is hilarious as Gordon.
@@Blondie727 It was never talked about in the story but it was confirmed by the writer some years ago. I recognised the traits, I could totally relate to the character before I was diagnosed (at 18) but when I was diagnosed I thought, Ah! That's it! Gordon is just like me!
That new manager guy is great, I remember him from a few other great British shows.
Even before I knew I had Asperger's I just Understood Gordon (Furgeson confirmed that Brittas is an Aspie too)
he's been thru a few series of red dwarf. He can handle an explosion or two.
Funny to watch 😂
The 90s cars and fashions. My word.
Oh, it’s superintendant Norman Mullet...
Best finish
I had a boss like that once - couldn't accept he no longer worked for the company. Used to come in every couple of days and just hang about. I used to feel very sorry for him.
I used to love this show. BBC America lol
