I recently purchased a starter what I thought was for a KZ440 but its not. It bolts up fine but the inside of the starter is different. It has only 2 brushes where mine has 4. I haven't hooked it up to see if it even runs because I don't know anything about the KZ400. My question to you or anyone that might know is the KZ400 a 12 volt system or 6 volt? This is my first bike/beginner bike so I still need to learn a lot. The KZ440 is 12 volt. The magnets in my starter came loose and locked up the starter. I'm able to bump start it, so it's not a motor issue. If I leave the battery connected while not running the starter shorts and drains it. I'm currently looking for the magnets to rebuild the starter if the KZ400 starter will not do it's job.
These are great bikes! Lots of soul..... I traded her for an 85 Interceptor 500 but I still get to ride it once in a while since it went to a friend. I am not sure what the tires are at this point. They were a bit unusual...
@@phlebmaster1 oh that was my first guess since the Oregon license plate. I have a 75 kz400 I customized into a cafe racer it looks top notch. I'm in washington.
Glad you got rid of the R1 exhaust much better with the Mac 👍🏻🏴

Yes, you are correct. I had put them on that way first, but fixed them later. :-)
