Yup. I noticed a significant bias towards that era. Edit: Because so many are claiming it's not biased.... Of course it's bias. If it were unbiased, we'd see everything from Bach to Japanese wedding music to African rain dances. The fact that we see so little types of music indicates that it must be biased.

I still think it's amazing that artists like Michael Jackson and Queen have made such a large impact on our culture, that even today we recognize many of their songs. Heck, I bet a 7-year-old would recognize their songs.
Queen, The Beatles, Micheal Jackson are literally the best parts of this video. I expected Bohemian Rhapsody at the top 5 but instead it got #1. Amazing!
I absolutely expected "we will rock you" to win. I mean come on, if all I have to type is "boom boom clap" for you to recognize the song, that has to be the fucking most recognizable song of all times.

The funny thing is that the most recognizable song in all time history in all over the world was " disco deewane by Nazia Hassan " even in those areas of the world where people not understand the language of the song but in every country's chart of songs ranked number 1 in 1980 . Still they listening till today. Go and watch this song in RUclips disco deewane by Nazia Hassan. No doubt the most recognizable song in recorded history. South Asia is not the entire World nor has it ever been the center of the world. You are seriously reaching with this ludicrous claim. I did not even know this artist nor this song existed until I read your comment. If you feel too bothered to look up the chart numbers for every song on this list and compare it to "disco deewane", then I have another solution for you. Look at the name "Nazia Hassan", and compare it to every single artist on this video's list. Come back to me and tell me a minorly successful Pakistani singer in the 1980s for a few years is bigger than the likes of Queen or Michael Jackson. @@IamKakau not really man the new generation like gen alpha just listen to the modern music and most prob the same will happen to the future generation...
What I think is it depends on parents. I’m gen z and because my dad only listens to rock in the car I started to like it and now my whole Spotify playlist is AC/DC, guns and roses, and Lynyrd Skynyrd
A big factor of why a song is universally recognizable by both the young and the old is media appearance. General media will almost always use popular songs of both young and old in their soundtracks. For example, the Stitch movie used Jailhouse Rock in an end sequence, Wayne's World used Bohemian Rhapsody in a car scene, the Fallout franchise used a lot of 1950s songs to stay in tune with the game's overall vibe, Never Gonna Give You Up exploded in popularity in huge part due to Rickroll memes, and All Star was the same because of Shrek memes. Whatever the usage case may be, it planted the seeds of "oh I think I've heard this one somewhere" in the minds of those who you normally wouldn't expect to know such songs.
Didn't recognise much, if any, of songs from this century but knew everything else and am glad Queen got such a good showing. RIP Freddie. Decades later, you and Queen still top the list.
I attended a wedding THIS YEAR wherein it was the end portion and some people said their goodbyes but Dancing Queen played and there was a dance party for 30 minutes.
I think it's safe to say that Freddie Mercury and Queen will go down in history as some of the biggest names in music from the 20th century, alongside Michael Jackson and others
@@gaspardmasson6853 Yeah, MJ, Queen and The Beatles probably the most recognizable in my opinion. Suprised The Beatles didn't have more on this list. ACDC, ABBA and Eminem also had quite a few on this list
Man this is so much fun. I knew literally every single song on the list just from listening radio in the car. As others mentioned it's incredibly how well the brain can store partial information about music.
When I saw the video title, my first thought was Bohemian Rhapsody and Billie Jean better be at the top, and it didn't disappoint. It's amazing how much of the top 15-20 is made up of Queen and Michael Jackson songs. They did nothing but churn out hooks that were accessible to everyone. Legends.
What I always liked about ABBA is they basically put themselves on top by themselves as they basically the record company Polar Music and were the band.
Kind of like how all of the famous Guns n Roses songs are from '88-'91. First album was Appetite for Destruction in '88. Last (classic) album was Use your Illusion in '91
I think the Top 10 is spot on. For those questioning why their favourite song isn't here or correctly placed it is because it is "Most Recognizable Songs". That is a big category because it means songs that the most people recognise by maybe just the opening 10 seconds. So the songs that the most generations know.
I'm mostly questioning why are there songs I never heard of. Considering how random and all-around is my taste in music, it's really impressive to put 4-5 unknown (for me) songs into a list like this...
The nirvana one was so out of place and I think the Michael Jackson besides thriller were a bit too high, especially having them above don’t stop believing and living on a prayer
The two bands/artists with the most songs are Queen with 7 and Michael Jackson with 6. This really shows that even in the modern age where older music is very underappreciated, the greatest band of all time still reigns supreme.
"Where older music is very underappreciated" I dunno man, I hear a lot of people praising the 80s and 90s. I won't say anything about taste, but to say it's underappreciated or not talked about is not something I agree with.

Regardless of where it charts, making a highly recognizable song is a marvelous achievement. Making a song that stays recognizable for years on end is an even greater one.
that could be true but considering the fact that a major chunk of the human population is not Christian and doesn't celebrate Christmas, much less listen to Christmas songs, it would make sense why they arent all that well known world wide
@@hana5922I think non christians could definitely recognize Christmas songs even if they don't celebrate Christmas, Christmas has become so mainstream of a holiday that it has kinda lost its religious connotations. What I'm surprised about is that there isn't classical music on this list

Of course this depends entirely on the voting base. All great songs and thanks for reminding us about how many songs have been out there that trigger wonderful memories .
The thing is, it is not, I would argue the most recognizable song today is most likely Macarena (or maybe Für Elise), everybody knows the lyrics, everybody knows the dance, it is played everywhere everyday, bohemian rhapsody is a masterpiece but it is not recognizable for a 5 year old or a 12 year old as macarena is
@@sugeknightiswatchingyouI agree, those TikTok dance things and song are also some stuff recognizable by a lot of people but they usually don’t last for long

Bffr😭🙏🏼
Same. I never listen to music specifically, but I could clearly recognize like 80 of them. Quite neat.
I was born in 2010 and observing how I only don't know 3 or 4 songs out of these 100 shows how much impact they've made on me. Amazing songs 👏
I was born in 2007 and I thibk only one song i didnt recognize
Who born that late xD
@@SaimonSarkerRome Oh boy Saimon, we aren´t the young people anymore : /
I was gonna say you're really young but then I remembered I'm only a year older than you😭😭(part of me is still mentally stuck in 2019)
@@river3604 LMAO that's me when I see 12 year olds 😭
Of course this depends entirely on the voting base. All great songs and thanks for reminding us about how many songs have been out there that trigger wonderful memories .
It’s crazy how many Swedish bands are in the top 25, ABBA, Europe, so many more
To think that bohemian rhapsody is the most recognizable song without having a chorus or any part that is played twice is mind bogling😱
The thing is, it is not, I would argue the most recognizable song today is most likely Macarena (or maybe Für Elise), everybody knows the lyrics, everybody knows the dance, it is played everywhere everyday, bohemian rhapsody is a masterpiece but it is not recognizable for a 5 year old or a 12 year old as macarena is
@@sugeknightiswatchingyouI agree, those TikTok dance things and song are also some stuff recognizable by a lot of people but they usually don’t last for long
@@gxpfxorxtxr5.5.67i feel like the trend with tiktok songs is more of a “oh ive heard this somewhere before” whereas bohemian is more like “oh i can sing along to this one”
Bohemian Rhapsody is NOT the most recognizable song of all time, not by a LONG shot, despite what this crap list may indicate.
Uhm spoiler warning
My mom is 93, I'm 59, my son is 22 and we recognize ALL MJ and Queen's songs:this list is spot on for our 3 generations!
Some songs just hit for everyone.
Great work, I really can't fault this list. People will always have their opinions over positions but there's no real right or wrong answer. But I can say I recognised 95 or so of these songs. So I think the list is doing its job, so many classics in there and you could easily name 100 more.
List is honestly pretty accurate except with gangnam style being as low as it was, some of y’all could sing that song before you could make complete sentences 😂😂Really well done, accurate list nonetheless
I heard all of this song when i was young. Careless whisper, Viva La Vida and thriller isy favourite.
Personally I prefer fallen kingdom by captain sparkles over viva la vida
