  • Introducing the Mission Workshop X Carryology Mars Project Backpack.
A limited-edition collaborative project between Mission Workshop and Carryology, inspired by the pack designed and made for NASA.
    PRE-ORDER NOW: missionworksho...
This project can trace its beginning to 2016 when MW started making backpacks for NASA’s BASALT (Biologic Analog Science Associated with Lava Terrains) and Desert Rats (Desert Research and Technology Studies) teams. The packs were designed to carry specialized communication equipment and built to survive the brutal conditions in the testing grounds of volcanic environments where acid rain, heat and ash would destroy a normal backpack.
For this project, we worked with MW to dial in the features to create a pack that works perfectly as both an EDC and Travel Pack while staying true to the materials, design language and construction techniques of the NASA pack.
    Made in the USA.
We hope it serves you well!

To many hundred$. What makes a good backpack? Comfortable, capable of a heavier or larger load, tough (material and workmanship) light weight (get rid of the excess danglies, pockets and dodaws and finally affordable. Affordable would mean under $150 for a 35-45 liter pack that could be expanded to 65 liters or more. Large main compartment (35 liters) that could expand (to 65 liters) and yet be snugged compactly by a couple of external straps. All stitching and attachments reinforced. Nylon or similar light manmade strong material. MOLLE on the back, sides and bottom to allow attaching additional storage or items. At least one color option that would be woods compatible, OD would be good.

Wow it sounds like you know how to make a good backpack! You certainly seem to understand the economics of production and materials cost. You should go do it. Right now

@@muszeuhs You don't get it. Just angry that someone other than you has an opinion. Did you actually look at the price of this backpack? And what makes it good? So someone who uses backpacks has owned more than a few has some suggestions on improvements and what customers might want and you jump to dismiss them because butt hurt or something.

@beowulf4718 bro you're asking for alot @ $150 bucks. Aliexpress and cheap Amazon listing's probably have the 35l to 65l bag that has the molle you're talking about. Imo they're all not great quality cause at that price there's some compromises to fabric, threading, and zippers. Imagine stuffing the 65L with tons of gear. It'll get heavy and cheapening out means the bag breaking and ripping. The factories in China could probably pull off your design but manufacturing cost per unit has to be low.
Running a backpack company ain't easy. There's not just only manufacturing but also designing, shipping/distribution, honoring returns and warranties, marketing, and customer service. If you run an entire bag company, you need a team or staff. If the bag is made in the united states with Cordura and YKK zippers with premium threading, I guarantee you'll have to sell the bag at 400 or 500. If you're not gonna offer a life time warranty to mitigate the cost, then what's your product support and return policy looking like? That eats in your margins. All of this plays in how you will price the product. Will you also provide free shipping or customers have to pay for it? If people don't like your product, how do you handle negative reviews that may eat your sales? Will you have to improve your design at the factory? Will that increase the price? All this takes time too. Will you take a loan or will you launch a kickstarter? How will you market and advertise your product? That's all costs before even making profit. Will your product be satisfactory in quality and sales at the $150 price point?
Look up how Goruck was founded. Business shit is stressful my guy.
Anyway this mission workshop collab is meant for bag nerds and isn't for folks that will thrive off a cheaper heschel or aer backpack.
