Jess..I just wanted to thank you for your amazing and positive content. Im an ER Nurse and I watch your videos to keep me sane & "deStress" during this exhausting time. Thank you for helping me stay sane and grounded :-) It really warms my heart watching you with your gardens, animals and family. Thank you!
Jess. . Check out Weed Em and Reap. They have a dairy heard of Nigerian Dwarf Goats.. DaNelle shows how to milk the little teats . You can Rope their back legs for a few weeks until they get the hang of it then remove the ropes after.
@@Ngamergal Ditto! I would also recommend Blue Cactus Dairy. She goes into the lopsided udder issues, as well. (Watch the last video!) I personally prefer Weed 'em and Reap's approaches (milk sharing, no hobbles) to BC's. But, she has way more goats - 22. And, showing the goats is their priority, so... But, I also have no doubt that she loves her goats and gives them the best care she can. Anyways, she has experience and would be a great resource.
George has got it down pat. Good kitty. You did good with the small goats Jess! Sweet Miah can whip up anything. He's as handy as a pocket on a shirt!!! God Bless Y'all
I vote for Katy. Absolutely love your goats and their personalities. Oh how I wish we could have animals where we live. At least we have a 🐕. Great job, Miah, on increasing the height of the milking platform.
I milk from day one (large productions) to keep production as high as possible and catch issues early. If kid(s) are nursing one sided, I quickly teach them to use the other side, too. They go by the scent of their saliva to find the teat they started with at first. Usually they get hungry enough to switch eventually, but by then that unused side of the udder can be engorged and/or drying up. Can even lose that side forever. Get the kids to mouth and even drink from the unused side (milk first if too tight) and then they will easily find their way.
Weed Em and Reap has an adorable video about milking made when their daughter was 6 yr old! But it’ll show you where to place the teat, in the area where your thumb closes against your hand, hold, then just use your index and middle fingers to squeeze the milk out. I use an upside down bucket placed under the belly so they can’t lay down. I have a Doe who will still try to do that- and she’s been milked for 5 years! I have not had success with hobbles. Because they are a smaller goat, they seem to be more athletic! It’s has caused more injuries than been worth it. I just tie each leg down behind them. Sometimes only need to tie one down. And advice given to me was just sit against them the whole time they’re eating, and continue to run your hands over them so they get used to touch. Seemed to help a lot after the first week. My herd is Mini Manchas🤓
Jess were all stuck at home, how about an hour long "Goat Cam" video I can loop in the background. Goats feeding in the yard would be relaxing to watch.
@@emilyb4583 Oh no! Daniel, of Arm's Family Homestead, tried a Goat Pro and promptly lost it! But, he also turned the goat with it loose on a *LOT* of wooded acreage. He even has merch shirts saying "Goat Pro." So, with Okie homestead channels, it's a standing joke. Then, Hidden Heights Farm put one one their LG dog, and almost the first thing she did was beeline to a brush pile and knock it silly, trying to get it off. However, in a much smaller pasture, though, it might be okay... I vote just setting one up with a wide view of their favorite area and just letting it run. :)

Also I always used plastic chain collars and taught them to lead so you didnt need an extra person.Plastic will break easily if they get hung on something, its light weight and comes in colors for ?? Hello there. I've been watching your videos for a while and I love what you do. I quit work and I'm starting my own farm. Your videos and your family inspires me so much. I'm getting some goats soon! So much love from Algeria. (North Africa) yes you have international fans and supporters! Have a great day.
As you know with dairy goat’s. It takes time with new doe’s to learn the stand and to be milked. They seem to do good for the first time over all. Thank You for sharing. God bless
As a current breastfeeding mama, I never imagined animals could get engorged or mastitis. Makes complete sense. So interesting! Poor mama goats! #solidarity
That's all I can drink. As I'm allergic to gluten and dairy. The protein in milk as well as the lactose. My hubby wondered how many almonds had to be milked to get that 1/2 gal of almond milk..lol
Human babies can favour one side too - usually the side with the fastest flow. As a qualified breastfeeding helper and part time farmer I loved how mammals are actually so similar. Are goats ok with raw garlic? As it is a dream for mastitis. A couple of cloves twice a day. May flavour milk, but save the goat pain (mastitis HURTS!)
Perfect timing!! My Pygmy/Nygrian Dwarf goat is going to have at least 2 kids she may even have 3 in a month! Im so excited thanks for this video its so fun to see someone else doing something similar, wish you luck.

Oh girl...tiny teats. The struggle is real. I just started a first freshener LaMancha who is on the small side and that was the hardest part 😂 Love this video and the truth you speak and to find another slow and steady goat trainer. I feel like your goats really grow to love the gentleness.

We got our first goats in December and the older doe gave birth in Feb so we are getting ready to start milking which is a brand new experience for me and for this doe (Missy) but we have been working on training to the stanchion and she also had a lop sided teet so we were milking her out on that side. It is all worth it I love having goats they are sweet, nosy, crazy, noisy little goofy balls
In addition to the flip down booster, if you were to cut a second set of headstocks that were interchangable (In other words, two headstock pieces with a nut and bolt pivot that would slide together down into the slot of your existing headstock and lock in place with a set pin at the bottom.. You probably would have to modify the first pair similarly to be removable)
