@@Ngamergal Ditto! I would also recommend Blue Cactus Dairy. She goes into the lopsided udder issues, as well. (Watch the last video!) I personally prefer Weed 'em and Reap's approaches (milk sharing, no hobbles) to BC's. But, she has way more goats - 22. And, showing the goats is their priority, so... But, I also have no doubt that she loves her goats and gives them the best care she can. Anyways, she has experience and would be a great resource.

@@emilyb4583 Oh no! Daniel, of Arm's Family Homestead, tried a Goat Pro and promptly lost it! But, he also turned the goat with it loose on a *LOT* of wooded acreage. He even has merch shirts saying "Goat Pro." So, with Okie homestead channels, it's a standing joke. Then, Hidden Heights Farm put one one their LG dog, and almost the first thing she did was beeline to a brush pile and knock it silly, trying to get it off.
However, in a much smaller pasture, though, it might be okay... I vote just setting one up with a wide view of their favorite area and just letting it run. :)

Weed Em and Reap has an adorable video about milking made when their daughter was 6 yr old! But it’ll show you where to place the teat, in the area where your thumb closes against your hand, hold, then just use your index and middle fingers to squeeze the milk out. I use an upside down bucket placed under the belly so they can’t lay down. I have a Doe who will still try to do that- and she’s been milked for 5 years! I have not had success with hobbles. Because they are a smaller goat, they seem to be more athletic! It’s has caused more injuries than been worth it. I just tie each leg down behind them. Sometimes only need to tie one down. And advice given to me was just sit against them the whole time they’re eating, and continue to run your hands over them so they get used to touch. Seemed to help a lot after the first week. My herd is Mini Manchas🤓

Human babies can favour one side too - usually the side with the fastest flow. As a qualified breastfeeding helper and part time farmer I loved how mammals are actually so similar.
Are goats ok with raw garlic? As it is a dream for mastitis. A couple of cloves twice a day.
May flavour milk, but save the goat pain (mastitis HURTS!)

I milk from day one (large productions) to keep production as high as possible and catch issues early. If kid(s) are nursing one sided, I quickly teach them to use the other side, too. They go by the scent of their saliva to find the teat they started with at first. Usually they get hungry enough to switch eventually, but by then that unused side of the udder can be engorged and/or drying up. Can even lose that side forever. Get the kids to mouth and even drink from the unused side (milk first if too tight) and then they will easily find their way.

In addition to the flip down booster, if you were to cut a second set of headstocks that were interchangable (In other words, two headstock pieces with a nut and bolt pivot that would slide together down into the slot of your existing headstock and lock in place with a set pin at the bottom.. You probably would have to modify the first pair similarly to be removable)

I am a new Nigerian goat owner. I've been milking for about a week tomorrow. I'm getting 2/3rd cup a day an she was not trained either. She is getting better but I have to sit on the milking stand and take both of her back hoofs in one hand and hold them on my leg and milk with one hand. I hope she gets even better and will stand still but she is still getting adjusted to her new home and the bullying from the other goats. I think that is the hardest thing for me. To see the other goats not allow her to eat and bed down with them. And yes the have small teats and you just have to get some of her utter and I have found that they get easier to milk the more you do it. The milk is delicious! Never Goati.

With cattle, it’s called a “head catch.” Anything else I’m not certain

Try milking from the back! You can get a good hold on the udder for training; and you can use more of your hand on the teat. My hands always cramped when I milked our NDs from the side. Your babies are a.d.o.r.a.b.l.e!! We're notsopatiently waiting...we have five does expecting...and they can't get here soon enough!

Would moving the "feed bucket" up a little higher on the stanchion keep the goats from sitting during milking? Good luck ... lovin those dwarf goats.
