There is no right or wrong path, you only live once, experience everything, preferably with your loved ones by your side, nothing else matters, nobody is here to judge you, it's wonderful that you have lifted the weight off your shoulder. I've made plenty of mistakes moving around the world looking for the perfect place myself, in the end, I chose China, because I feel at rest, I experienced unconditional love there, it instilled within me a sense of safety and security and love I didn't experience anywhere else, but that is just me, in your case, isolation and loneliness, then it is perfect time to move on. Everyone is different, and you have not wasted your time, you gained new experience and became a better person and developed your character and resilience as a person, see you said it yourself, you have become very honest and that is a brilliant trait that will help your through out your life. It is normal to feel regret and sorrow and we all do. Nothing in life is ever as we expected it to be, it's ok to be disappointed as it is a natural part of a human being, try everything, you can always come back to China anytime you want, China will always welcome you.

Bottomline is, if you cannot hack it, just be honest with yourself, chalk it down to life's experiences, and move on.

It's alright to quit something that doesn't fit you. Life is all about experience. As long as this experience makes you know yourself better or know the world better it's totally worth it especially at young age. Welcome coming to China maybe for another job in the future or just for touring around. Good luck.

These private language schools are not that great to be employed at ☹️

Sorry to hear that… but probably you could try Shanghai bc there might be more foreigners and the culture and companies might be easier for you to fit in

I was going to teach with EF China. But it seems like a lot of work for 15,000RMB

Too bad. Hope you find what you are looking for. It doesn’t sound like teaching is the right job for you. You may want to try a more outward facing job, such as marketing. Probably would have been easier for you, if your job was in Shanghai.

As a Cantonese, I have always had a strong aversion to Shenzhen. The city's pace is too fast, and work is still the main theme. Just thinking about it makes me feel tired.
