my grandad was in legion .19 division, 19 fusilier batlion it was used for reconnosaince .also known as laumanja battalion. he was shot in leg on curonian surroundment.they tryed to ewacuate some of the soldiers by see,but english planes didnt let them so they had to turn back.there was one ocasion that they was laing in bog breathing thru reed,becouse russian machine guns was shooting for 2 hours without stop,when he came out the bushes and reeds aroud was all cut down with bullets.many men got killed in that bog.when war was ower they still didnt know that and kept fighting,in the end they managed to brake out and escape,he had option to go to austria,but before that he wanted to go home and tell his mother that he is alive.that was about 300 kilometers away in latgalia. he got cought in zemgale and sent to russian pow camp in tula.mine number 1.spent 2 years there than came bac home.got married an had children
It's very strange as two years in camp is a very light punishment who fought with guns against Soviet union. my wife grandfather was shot (he was in cosack regiment)

Some lyrics are a bit off, I've got the book with all the Latvian legionare songs and the incorrect part is it says curchill or Stalin wil hang us but actually in the official lyrics is "either the Russians or Germans will hang us".
That makes a lot more sense since the Germans or the Russians were the only ones who occupied their country, at least from what I know
